Something from Chapter 13 of the Forest's Blessing

Context:

In Chapter 12, The Admin meets Lukas down by a river. In this au, Lukas is an ecologist studying biomes and writing an encyclopedia on them. So while down at the river, Lukas shows the Admin some rockhounding techniques he learned from a villager while he was studying Villagerese (canon word for it btw). He shows the Admin one of the things he learned, which was basically bracelet making. It's just a lil something special for them to bond over, because at this point during the fic, Lukas is under the assumption the Admin dislikes him or is just putting up with him, and Jesse is just... very very unfamiliar with a person who doesn't actually want to kill him or hurt him in some way. Lukas is friendly and sweet, and this moment is one of the first in many years where Jesse exercises his creativity again, something he felt was lost to his past with his memories after becoming the Admin. After Lukas leaves, the Admin attempts to tie the bracelet like Lukas did, but because he's not used to such gentleness, he ends up snapping the string and feels his stomach drop for the first time in many years. He wants to be able to wear this because.. well.. it's one of the only things that makes him feel less like a monster and more like a person. The forest doesn't have anything for him to really adorn and make himself look more appealing. He's never felt the need to do so. He just knows Lukas inspired him to be creative again, and wanting to be more than just the monster he feels like he is. So he finds a way to wear a broken piece of it, and then tries to compliment it with a feather he found. It's these little things he never saw beauty in before, but the way Lukas talks about nature and the world around him, he begins to feel less imprisoned in the forest and more.. compelled to appreciate his surroundings for the first time in a decade.
