I Know These Pictures Have Been All Over Tumblr In The Last Few Days, But They Gave Me Bunny Thoughts

I know these pictures have been all over Tumblr in the last few days, but they gave me bunny thoughts I had to share. 

Here's Ben, trapped in quarantine, gazing out the window, looking to see if Rey is approaching. He knows he should be grateful, he works mostly at the computer, and he's an important person, he has no worries about losing his job. He spends his day on his keyboard and Zoom in his comfortable apartment. But it kills him that Rey is an essential worker, and he finds himself often at the window, hoping that she'll come home early for some reason and he'll see her approach. She's careful, of course, she puts her scrubs in the washing machine and then takes a shower, but afterwards, she's his, to comfort from the stresses of the day, to cuddle and make slow, sweet love to her. She wanted to stay completely distant from him, but that was more than he could tolerate.

Sometimes he just drapes himself over the couch, when she hasn't been gone long and he knows it's pointless to look out the window. He can't focus on work any more, and needs a few minutes to be miserable and recoup, wishing that there were a few things in their apartment he could break. Since meeting Rey, he's been working on his anger management skills, but oh, he'd really love to smash things. Anger at the world's situation, anger at the risks Rey takes, anger that supporting her is all he can do, and that seems like such a small contribution to a massive problem. He can't find a way to release his anger, so he waits and mopes.

I made myself a bit sniffly about poor Ben in quarantine.

I met Alex (Splix) online through the Master_Apprentice list, brought together by our shared love of Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan in the heady days of ST:TPM fandom. I saw her in person many years at the ConStrict cons in Las Vegas in the summer. She always made insightful and amusing comments at the panels and was just a fun person to be around. I take very few pictures at ConStrict. Weirdly, the only Alex-related one I have is her truck in 2019. I was walking through the parking lot and stopped, amused at how she decorated it with all her passions. Alex was an open, honest, and enthusiastic person, not afraid to express her emotions, likes and dislikes. I miss her.

Look at this picture, with three kids hanging on Adam Driver, and he’s able to support all of them. It makes me want the fanfic where Rey has grown up and gone to work in a foster home, so that she can give kids the love she didn’t have as a child. And Ben has shown up to vet the foster home as a possible charity for his corporation to support. Being an only child, he’s uncomfortable around kids, but he falls for Rey, so finds excuses to hang around. His vetting must be thorough, right? Can’t have his corporation embarrassed by a scandal. He finds himself relaxing around the kids and horsing around with them, as Rey finds herself noticing his broad shoulders more and more and eventually falling in love with him.

Has anyone written that fic? It totally should exist.  

Keep flattening the curve, folks! Don’t get complacent. We’ve got a ways to go, but we can make it.

Don’t forget - just because you’re wearing a mask/scarf/whatever, that does NOT mean you can let up on anything else. It’s an extra layer of protection, so to speak.

Like, if it’s cold out, you wear a coat. Then Mom says, put your hat on - it’s warmer. Great idea. Put a hat on. Do you then take your coat off because your hat keeps you warm? NO. 

The mask *helps*, but you still need to wash your damn hands and not touch your damn face and stay the fuck home and sadly, stay at least 6 feet away from other people.

A mask is an AND, not an OR.
