I saw a post @bulkhummus made back in December about Lubelle forcing Cecil to sit in from of a mirror and it gave me SUCH BRAINROT that I had to draw it and I figured I’d post before the influx of new episode posts. I spent too long looking at pictures of infinity mirrors. (text below)

Carlos’ lab is basically shoved into a strip mall by Big Rico’s and it has a friendly sign that says We’re “Open”! complete with the accidental scare quotes. (WTNV Novel)
Due to Cecil being a blathermouth, he and Carlos as an item are like local celebrities and people follow their relationship like celebrity gossip, it’s hilarious. (WTNV Novel)
Carlos thinks he’s funny and his jokes are terrible. Bless him.
Frequently forgets how radio works and forgets listeners cannot see his visual aids. (”Ghost Stories,” “Holiday”)
He’s trying very hard to be a good uncle to Janice, coming up with little jokes before seeing her and transparently hoping she accepts him. (It Devours!)
He had an immediate crush on Cecil in return, all the way back in the “Pilot.” The device he brought to the radio station to detect stuff, he had no idea how it worked, he just needed an excuse to meet Cecil. (”Summer 217, Night Vale, USA”)
Given Cecil’s leisure activities during the town curfew in Season 6, can be assumed to: smoke pot, play Strip Uno, and go out clubbing with his husband. (”Council Member Flynn”)

Shockingly quick to jealousy! Cecil, in All Hail: “Oh, that makes sense because my favorite scientist is Rihanna–” Carlos, immediately annoyed: “What.” Cecil: “S-second! Second favorite–” Carlos: “Yeah, you can stop talking now.”
Keeps trying to give Nilanjana relationship advice and being terrible at it. But he keeps trying! Even when Nils is just tuning him out. (It Devours!)
Literally the horniest character in Night Vale. Has an orgasm on air in “Holiday” talking about doing scientific equations with Cecil. (give WTNV ten bucks, go listen, jfc)
“Bunny” is the greatest and most indicative nickname I could possibly imagine. Carlos is excitable!! and is small enough that Cecil can carry him as complete dead weight!! and is very anxious and nervous, has to stop and calm down during times of heightened stress. Bunny. jesus fucking christ.
Carlos has like a half dozen nicknames for Cecil. Cecil has “Bunny.” Fuckin’ kill me.
It’s often implied by the show that Carlos is often running around in the background saving the day, but seeing him actually dangerous and vengeful in “It Devours!” is incredible. He takes out a gas can and a flare and fucking kills a monster to protect Night Vale, holy shit? Holy shit, Carlos.
also sidebar not for nothing but ID! is largely about Nilanjana and Carlos’ differing levels of integration into Night Vale, and how much slower the process is coming for her in comparison. Carlos being willing to basically Do An Ethically Fucked Thing in the name of saving people is pretty interesting.
Can be staggeringly illogical. The entire plot of ID! revolves around Carlos reacting badly to his panic and his trauma and also destroying Night Vale in his terrified reaction to a crisis and to his trauma with the Desert Otherworld.
Carlos is incredible smart, but incredibly unwise. He called Teddy Williams deranged, jumped down into a miniature city, and almost died. VERY SMART. ALSO WTF CARLOS. (This is why he needs Cecil, I’m fuckin’ sayin’.) (”One Year Later”)
“Go play some Bloodborne and relax” is a thing Cecil tells him when he’s too pent up, god fucking bless.
LITERALLY AND CONSISTENTLY CANNOT EXPLAIN HIS SCIENTIFIC PROCESS.
Let’s spend a moment on this. We do see Actual Science getting done in ID! by Nilanjana, so real science totally exists in the WTNV universe. But Carlos never fucking ever explains how he does it. He says HMM a lot and rubs his chin and thinks of numbers, but you know what? SHIT GETS DONE SOMEHOW. He can’t explain it, but he still does it!
the stealth storytelling of “The Mudstone Abyss” and the appearance of Charles, Carlos’ double, is that Carlos is finally fully integrated in Night Vale, enough so he gets a double like everyone else.
He kind of adorably takes Cecil’s love for him for granted? like obviously Cecil loves him? when Cecil forgets about Carlos in “The General” Carlos still thinks he can get away with “lol we’re married, we’re in love, it’s fine” and just shortcut his way back into Maximum Relationship. it’s like a universal constant has been disrupted.
There is a hilarious moment in “It Devours!” when Nilanjana needs to tell Carlos something important but he keeps getting distracted by John Peters and then the Palmer-Carlsbergs, and then Nils sees him getting distracted again and literally tells him “LISTEN I NEED YOU TO FOCUS FOR ONE SECOND, I KNOW YOU ARE EXCITED TO SEE EVERYONE BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!” and its fucking great. I love Nilanjana and Carlos. Best science friends. Even if she has a crush on Carlos’ husband.
This is not expressly “canon” but I will never be over the way we are introduced to Carlos through Cecil’s narration and then how Dylan Marron just walked on stage and flipped the script on its axis. Carlos goes from being this archetype of the Only Sane Man to being… someone Cecil has to rush to keep up with because he’s running around waving dangermeters at things and getting into trouble and nearly getting eaten by the City Council, and there is this palpable way to me how the sort of Expected Dynamic between them was completely inverted. Entirely because of Marron’s performance of him, which then informed his writing in a very noticeable way.
This also lead to my favorite things about Cecil, but I’m still not ready to write my thesis on Cecil As Caretaker Of Carlos, His Family, and Night Vale, that’s def coming though.
By getting married, the question of “what is carlos’ last name” is subtly and quietly solved. It’s Palmer, obviously.

Sure anon, why not. I'm not a photographer so the quality of these is kind of slushy at best. I like nature and wander around a little bit, but I rarely hike properly, so I don't go to that many scenic places. These are mostly from regular walks. Long post warning.
Summers are short but very green, and since we're at the arctic circle we get sunlight around the clock. Some of these were taken at midnight or early morning small hours. Most of Finland is very sparsely populated and covered in boreal forests.
Finland is a very watery country, lots of lakes in particular.
Sometimes you get intense sunsets
And winters are very cold, snowy and last about six months. In summer we have midnight sun and in winter there's the polar night to counter it. Around late December sun only rises for about two hours per day where I live so it's very dark for many, many weeks on end (which is wonderful if you get seasonal depression like I do). But sometimes the weather and lighting are just right and you get this ethereal pastel effect that I love.
