It's very interesting to see how mixed the reception to Celia's "moment" in the S1 finale is.

She had her internally justified reasons for what she was doing, and honestly I'm really interested in the ethics of it. It's sort of a trolley problem.

She believes that her child needs her (this is sort of true, as the foster care system and adoption as a whole will always traumatize the children put through it), and she's okay with killing as a means to ensure Jack's wellbeing.

She's sacrificing an innocent person to protect her life and her child's life in this new world, which is absolutely selfish, but it's easy to put oneself into that mindset. The emotions that a parent has for their child are immense and strong. She was doing the wrong thing, absolutely, but I cannot with any degree of certainty say I wouldn't do the same in her place.

Imagine being amnesic, thrust from the haze of The Strangers confusion, no sense of self remaining and forced to live underground while the world above you was totally scorched. Imagine a friend of your keepers trying to steal you away into her body of infinite hallways. Imagine waking up once again in another place, and everything is different but the same, and you are alone, and the world wants you back and it claws at you and grabs you in your vulnerable moments and wants you and wants to own you and the subway is in places that the subway is not and it rumbles and shakes and if the car was not shaking you'd have slept through it and you need to stay awake and you know there are many things that want to have you but the world wants you the most and it wants you back and you slipped away and you are so close to being safe and the railcar shakes and you wake once again and you were almost lost and you need to stay and there's only one thing in this world that you understand and he is small, and helpless, and needy, and he cries while you're at work and you just need him to be safe.
