Now presenting: the forth comic from Otis College!
This one's called Rebel Hearts: "In this universe, worlds are strictly monitored and controlled by the government and the C.O.P. (The Coming Out Program). Every world is populated by only one type of sexual preference (ex: “straight world”, “pansexual world”). At a certain age, children are required to declare their sexuality and they are transferred to their respective world. In the hopes of creating a universal utopia where differences and preferences cannot be judged by anyone, three heroic teens join forces to fight against this oppressive system and bring families and friends back together."
By students Yaritza Velazquez (IG @yavedesigns), Roya Tabrizi (IG @possiblychoopie), and Cole Johnson (IG @megalo_artist).
Every semester, we partner with the talented students in Otis College of Art and Design's Comic Book Heroes class who write and illustrate an original comic centered around an It Gets Better Project theme - this past semester’s theme was “Pride.” 💜 Read them all on our website.

Things I overheard in art school
*after three hours of straddling a bench in a painting studio* "I'm pretty certain I don't have a spine anymore. It's liquified."
-
"What do you have in there?"
"Espresso."
"Like a latte?"
"Espresso."
"Your bottle's full tho."
"Yea. The whole thing is espresso."
-
Prof on teams meeting: "We have a TA for this class but she's pretty useless."
*Camera pans to dog napping on the couch*
-
-in large study room-
*Shouting* "DOES ANYONE HERE HAVE CADMIUM RED HEAVY BODY ACRYLIC PAINT"
-three people shout back "I do"-
-
"Hey do you wanna go to the food court during the break and just not come back to class after?"
"Yea sure"
-
*Takes off big metal clip off their painting board to close a bag of chips in class*
-
Professor: "Good morning, you don't wanna be here this early and neither do I."
-
-In painting class-
"FUCK I forgot my paintbrushes. And my paint. Actually I might just go home"
-
Professor making rounds in painting class: "Are you procrastinating the background?"
Student: ".......yeah"
-
"I'm so happy COVID exists right now, I don't have to paint the bottom of the model's face"
-
"I can't get the proportions right it's driving me nuts!"
"Just Photoshop it before you submit it bro"
-
"Some asshole in the previous class left oil paint on the bench and I just sat in it"
-
"I like to take the stairs so I can count the penis graffiti on the walls"
-
"If the prof criticizes your self-portrait just burst into tears and say you can't help the way you were born"
-
Professor: "Almost no one showed up to this teams meeting... Which class has an essay due at midnight this time?"
-
"I hope whoever invented adobe illustrator burns in hell"
Fluffy Queer Books With Strong Female Leads You Need To Read
These books are some of my personal favorites and they have little to no s*x scenes/mentions of it (for my fellow aces) and some have little to no romance (aros) so I will put a caption underneath for those for ya (; { x = non-pg-13 parts}
The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats & Piracy by Mackenzie Lee (Main character is aroace w/ wlw relationship, contains some references to x but mostly fluff. Sequel to A Gentleman’s Guide of Vice & Virtue which is a cute gay love story but has lots of x.)
PJO/HOO/MC/KC/TOA by Rick Riorden (You know them, you love them. They are super clean, queer representation across the spectrum, funny, cute, entrancing. And there’s the PJO tv show coming out on Disney+ in 2023 and a new Solangelo book coming out soon, too!)
Sisters of Sword & Song by Rebecca Ross (I am currently reading this book and it is AMAZING! I don’t think there are any canonically queer characters, but you can headcanon Halcyon as ace/aro (I think? I didn’t finish the book yet). It’s more about sisterly love than actual romance and there is plenty of magic, mythology, and action to keep you enthralled. I think it’s clean, but a character does worry about being taken advantage of in a prison at one point. (Don’t worry nothing happens)
My Last Summer with Cass by Mark Crilley (Despite this graphic novel being written by/drawn by a man, there are no male characters aside from a couple dads. It is about friendship and young artists living in NYC, no romance, no x. But there are definitely some queer-coded characters, I mean, they’re artists haha. But the fact they’re queer is never mentioned so I guess it’s up to you!)
My aroace spec ass at fanfics:
