I'm gonna start using this blog to grow a bit, and hopefully make some much needed improvements in my life. Come out of my shell a bit, make both my mind and body better and stronger, try to find some motivation in my life, and so on. Even if it is a bit late, 2014 needs to be a new year.

GOALS

Setting some goals for myself for this year (and maybe a few for the future), and hoping that posting it here will help make me want to keep these goals. In no particular order of importance:

1. Get fit. - My fitness level has varied over the last few years. Average, skinny, slightly toned, etc. No matter what, I hate my body, and probably always will. But anyways, when my depression was at it's worst I put on some weight. I plan on losing what is left of that weight, and then further improve my body. Lots of cardio to help improve my score on the Army's PT test. I also need to figure out a good/better diet. I'd like to be able to score at least a 250 on the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test). Short term goal: A body kinda like Francois Sagat. Long term goal: BIGGER. Have to look for an example... 2. Take photos. - As I've mentioned, I LOATHE pictures of myself and having those photos taken. My 52 Photo Challenge is something I'm doing to sort of take care of that. Though maybe I'll take a few photos of other stuff too. 3. Travel. - I want to travel somewhere this year, and every following year that I can. I'm thinking about a long trip or two in September, since I don't have any military training that month. This year it will definitely be somewhere in the US (or maybe Canada). New York, California, Florida, and North Carolina are the most likely options.

4. Start flying again. - This is a big one. I was studying to be a pilot, and had some flight lessons too. But I stopped for a couple of reasons. Now that I'm trying to get my life on the right track again, I want to study to be a pilot again. It is my dream job to be a pilot, and there is really nothing like it.

5. Read more. A LOT more. - When I was a kid I LOVED to read. I enjoyed playing outside, and video games, and other stuff, but I was very enthusiastic about reading. I would breeze through books in a day in elementry school, middle school, and even high school. I would like to at least get near that level and go through a few books every month.

6. Get a better job. - Either one that pays more, or that I like more. I have a career in the military at the moment, and I'd like to eventually be a pilot, but I'd like something that I can enjoy doing until that happens.

7. Reconnect with friends/family. - When I was at my most depressed last year I essentially cut myself off from everyone I knew. I didn't hangout, visit, or even call or text unless I absolutely had to. And even then it was kept to a minimum. My social skills and social anxieties got far worse than they had ever been before. I've done a little better in the last few months, but I still need to do a much better job at being a friend and an older brother to my two sisters.

8. Find a few hobbies. - Simple enough. I just want to find a few activities that I can enjoy and maybe even get a few useful skills out of. I have a few little how-to books I plan on looking through. :-)

9. Go camping. - I'd like to start going on weekend camping trips every once in a while (like maybe every 6-8 weeks go out for two or three days), and even do a little bit of fishing if I can.

10. I'd like to have a better opinion of myself. - I've got quite a few issues, and I need to work through them. It'll take time. Maybe even years. But within the next year I would like to at least get to a point where I'm not drowning in self-loathing. I'd like to have an once or two of self-confidence and continually improving.

There are a few other goals, but these are just a few to start with. I may edit this at a later point to include a few more, or just mention them on my blog as I think of new ones.

And if anyone ever reads this, I would be grateful for any encouragement or advice to help me reach these goals.

Tyrion Lannister is obviously just as awesome in real life.

I've decided that if I get a dog, I'm calling him Tyrion.
