A so-called larva convivialis, miniature skeleton with articulated limbs, late 1st century Roman Empire.
Ancient Romans used them to decorate tables at banquets, lunches or dinners. They were also found on glasses, plates and everywhere, to reflect on the brevity of life and remind people that death is always lurking.
This bronze piece is in the Archaeological Museum of Florence, Italy.
The figure's arms and parts of what appears to be a small amphora that the skeleton was probably hugging have been lost.
