🪐 — HEADCANONS / ola's mother & sister :

●  ola's mother was named caimile, & she was originally born in ghana. ●  caimile had a natural talent for languages, & spoke six fluently. in fact, she moved to sweden at age 18 to study linguistics at university. ●  caimile was in her final year at university when she discovered she was pregnant. ola's sister, eva, was born just months after caimile graduated. ●  eva is 4 years older than ola. they were both born in sweden. ●  at home, caimile & jakob spoke mostly swedish, but caimile spoke english & ewe to her daughters. they were both raised knowing all three languages. ● as children, eva was always the more analytical "left-brained" child who loved engineering, with ola drawn to art, dance, & interpersonal pursuits — though both girls were always very high achieving, academically speaking. ●  when ola was 5, caimile was offered her dream job as a professional translator in the united kingdom, & the family relocated to moordale. ●  during her youngest years, ola was closer to jakob than caimile because her mother was usually away working, leaving jakob to raise his daughters. ●   ola & eva were never told about their mother's affair, or that their parents had planned to divorce before caimile's cancer diagnosis, not even after her death. ●   caimile was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer when ola was 12. because of the unspoken tension between her & jakob, & the fact that eva was just entering college, it fell largely to ola to care for her mother. ● ola & caimile bonded strongly during her treatment, with ola getting the chance to learn much more about her mother's side of the family & their history. ● caimile died when ola was fifteen. at first, ola refused to go to therapy. but when her always high grades started slipping, her doctor recommended she be enrolled in grief counseling. her therapist saved ola's life. & ever since, it has been ola's dream to be a grief counselor herself to help other struggling kids.

🪐 — EDWARD TEACH  for  stede !

if only he weren’t so ridiculously spellbound,   then yes,  he would manage to free himself rather quick.  a well placed kick,  or maybe just a knee,  and stede would probably go down  —  but this is hardly him sparring,  is it?  the real thing has never been this meek.  edward teach doesn’t just give up without fighting until the end,  and yet he is rendered harmless without even a blade against his throat.  stede is not helping matters,  on his part,  keeping up that talk.  he clearly doesn’t know what mess he is making of edward’s brain.  and it’s bloody unfair of him.  absolutely maddening.   ‘  yeah,  that’s right  —  you won,  stede.  why don’t you just kiss me and be done with it?  ’   damn his tongue,  too loose and disconnected from his brain to function as it should.  he will claim to have taken a nonexistent blow to the head,  if this goes south.  because surely that’s going to work. 

   IT MUST BE A TRAP.  that’s the first thing he thinks  — that this will be just like back in his boarding school days, when nigel had tricked him into french-kissing one of the stable horses in front of everyone.   &  the long-ago quieted laughter of his classmates echoes in his ears as stede recoils back a step, forcing some distance between them as his face flushes hot with embarrassment.  ❝ what ?  but i wasn’t  —  i didn’t mean — ❞  his blade drops at his side, the duel entirely forgotten,  &  stede’s eyes follows it to the finely lacquered deck, suddenly unable to look ed in the face.  in the past, denial has always suited him best, but his sudden nerves make the words overflow disconnectedly from his lips.  ❝ i’ve never  —  well, it’s not that i’ve  never.  but mary  &  i,  we didn’t often  —  she didn’t seem to  —  ❞  &  even stede can tell he’s babbling now, cutting himself off mid-sentence with a dry laugh.  ❝ that is to say, i didn’t expect that  kissing  would be part of our captaining lessons.  i thought that pirates were usually so busy raiding  &  dueling each other that they had little time left over for such... activities ? ❞

    THE LOOK OLA GIVES HIM  is bright with approval, an encouraging smile  &  a nod given as she places her hand on her friend’s forearm.  ❝ that’s right.  that’s all any of us can do, really. ❞  she hasn’t known adam that long, but already she’s seen a drastic change in him.  the truth is, he had already become almost unrecognizable from the sullen boy she’d met back when he first started working with her at brown’s.  ❝ everyone makes mistakes  —  what matters is that you try to learn from them.  &  i’m really proud of you, adam.  you’ve learned a lot lately.  you should be proud of yourself, too. ❞
