Love and Redemption Rewatch: ep. 1

I genuinely love and adore this show but with how little content there is for L&R, I had to made some for myself.

Beware of SPOILERS for the whole story! Seriously...

I'm so excited!!! The opening song is still so good and still so full of spoilers. Like really, Si Feng with the wings??? The creators were not afraid... it was a choice.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Who do we have here? Yep, they have shown our bird and our monkey right off the bat.

The whole opening monologue is such a great misdirection! They even say it - one comes after the other! But the viewer expects two players, so this very suspicious setup is completely disregarded.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Wow, they really show everyone, don't they? :)

The concept of soul AND primordial spirit was very hard for me to grasp the first time, but rewatch makes it quite clear.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

I swear I have seen this guy somewhere...

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Yep, it's this guy from The Journey of Chong Zi.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

This is ANOTHER great misdirect because we know that God of War and Star of Mosha are going to be reincarnated at the same time and OF COURSE Si Feng is here... so who could he possibly be, I am right? :)

And another great thing? The demons genuinely don't have the most important information either. :D

I almost forgot that they need Rahu Ketu's weapon to unseal the cup... all these macguffins to keep track of.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

And this ist how the story tells us that Xuan Ji and Ling Long are twins... pretty easy to miss.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Ten months?? That's quite post-term!

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Ling Long is amazing from the start. Protective older sister is something I need more of... and Ling Long is fierce!

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

The introduction of Min Yan is also on point: the only one who can keep up with Ling Long and never leaves her, but at the same time is always backed into some corner by her.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1
Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

He is regretting it already... :D

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Ling Long is talking about all these "handsome men" she gets to meet and Min Yan is not amused...

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

I have questions! Are all of these golden winged birds?? If so, do they really cast out so many potential warriors? To fend for themselves in hostile world without their powers?? That's rough AND wasteful...

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

I can't decide which picture sums up the Master of Li Ze Palace (does he have a name???) better, but I love him and his terrifying claws.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

The bird lantern! There truly is foreshadowing for everything, if you know what to look for!

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Yuan Lang's and Wu Zhi Qi's "friendship" is so interesting to me, because sometimes Yuan Lang almost looks like he means it... but the powerplay always comes first.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Wu Tong goes from awestruck to smirking in 0,2 seconds and then proceeds to bully the sister of the girl he likes... it's actually quite realistic.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

I honestly can't remember when Si Feng stops stammering... I will have to look out for that.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Ling Long isn't afraid to say it. :D

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Min Yan still isn't enjoying the whole "let's look for handsome mysterious guys" vibe, but Ling Long has him figured out.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

The relationship between these two is extremely enjoyable right from the start. :)

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

I think this is the scene that made me definitely fall in love with Ling Long. She is determined, driven, protective and smart, and she is not afraid to use tactics like this - the crying and evocation of their mother is extremely well done and the way she immediately cuts her crying once she gets what she wants is hilarious. No one can mess with her sister, not even their own father!

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

This is a very specific morning routine. It can't be easy to make your tea from dewdrops fallen from a plum tree... just saying.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

This relationship is off to a very bad start.

I already forgot how hostile Si Feng was at the beginning. I would feel bad for Xuan Ji, but she doesn't mind...

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

Si Feng is repressed and Chuan Ji is absolutely clueless about everything and it's very entertaining to watch. :)

The candle dragon sounds are genuinely scary.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

This is a very impulsive decision on Chuan Ji's part and one she should have thought out better. She knows the rules, knows that the mask is important. What is she hoping to achieve by taking it off? It frustrates me a little, this lack of forethought, but the story needs it to get moving.

Love And Redemption Rewatch: Ep. 1

And here is another clue... wow, that's quite a lot for episode 1.

One episode was enough to rekindle my love for most of these characters... this rewatch could get quite annoying unfortunately . :)

As a member of Falešné společenstvo I have to thank all the people from Tolkien musical fan group. You can’t even imagine how much this means to me (and I think it’s the same for other members of FS too). I almost cried when you gave us the flowers and the “letter”… Gosh, It’s so beautiful.

This year was especially challenging. Many of us think we were cursed and our journey is painfully similar to Enchanted Isles. Even a few hours before the Tolkiencon premiere there were so many things that went wrong (e.g. broken car and keyboard stand) and I don’t even talk about cast changes because of illnesses…

After all those years I’m a little bit burnt out (even though compared to some other members I don’t even do a quarter of their work) and I was even feeling like quitting. Of course, I didn’t mainly because well… without a very good reason, you can’t quit a few weeks before the premiere. But the other reason was that there are people outside the traditional visitors of Tolkiencon, who enjoy our work on its own, and who even want to travel from other countries just to see us. You guys are one of the few reasons, why I had a will to continue and a will to try to deliver the best possible performance. (Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best performance. Acting and singing in the gym are very hard because of the people who sit a few meters before you and you can look directly to their faces… I really wish you could see our unofficial performance last week. It is always in a little theatre and probably because of that this performance is very often better than the premiere one).

So, thank you so so much again. You are really amazing. And I truly hope our play was worth your journey and you have enjoyed your stay at Tolkiencon and Prague…

4.2 spoilers but it's interesting how Scaramouche and Furina were both made as replacements. But while Ei saw Scara's humanity as a flaw, Focalors thought that's what made Furina perfect.

I need the two of them to interact

Hi, I came across your blog recently and I was very surprised that you know our Falešné Společenstvo and that you even seem to be a fan of ours! That's so amazing! I'm very surprised that someone who probably doesn't speak Czech (I am basing this on your bio, sorry if I am wrong) would be so invested in our songs, but as one of the creators I am incredibly flattered! How did you even came across us?

Anyway, we are recording Húrinovy děti right now (but you probably already know that): https://www.donio.cz/album-hurinovy-deti

and there will be new musical this January (if nothing goes wrong): The Voyage of Eärendil

Hi!

I admit this is a bit like a celebrity coming across my nonsense, but yes I am a big fan!

I really enjoy the dedication to the stories, and the characterisations that are presented (especially the characterisation of Maedhros, and of Thingol in Pàd Doriathu, and the relationship of Feanor & Nerdanel in Feanor a jeho synové) and I've found them reasonably ok to understand what is happening so long as you know the story/get google to translate the songs from the sheet music.

I am extremely excited for Húrinovy děti, obviously you've seen that I divided the songs up from the videos so I'm looking forward to hearing them actually recorded (without the inevitable person coughing in the middle of a song....)

And yes I'm excited to see what The Voyage of Earendil covers! I only wish it was remotely possible to see it live, but alas, I live in Australia, so I will be happy with the videos

Also, because it's been nagging at my mind for so long, is "Ĺľivot a smrt" based on a different song? The tune seems familiar to me

Love and Redemption – Bailin

Behold! A meta about Bailin from Love and Redemption, if there’s anyone interested. It’s quite long, so be warned…

Many thanks to my dear @nieninque-nyerea for huge help with the translation from my mother tongue - I would never have the mental strength to do it by my self!

Bailin

Bailin is a complicated character… and that’s the reason why it’s so sad that all opinions about him are so simplified and can be summed up in three words “he’s the worst”. Because he isn’t… and at the same time, yes, he definitely is. As you can see, the situation is complicated. It’s honestly quite surprising how much people want to simplify his actions and character, especially considering the complex psyche of the main trio (or quartet, depending on viewer’s philosophy) which makes the whole story so interesting, compelling and surprising (with a help of the wonderful secondary characters, but shh :)). I guess human desire for simple, black and white answers is our greatest superpower…

I would like to start with a small polemic about whether Bailin is a villain. I realize I’m being a bit loose with the terminology here, but I’d argue that he is not a villain. “What?” I hear the indignant voice of the internet – as if we didn’t have enough evidence that in the end it was all his fault! (And there really is plenty of evidence.) If I may, I would call Bailin more of an antagonist, someone who is in opposition to the hero – if we consider Si Feng  the hero of the story, then completely deliberately, if the hero is Xuan Ji/Rahu Ketu, then Bailin is in opposition which he himself is hardly aware of, or at least does not admit to. As horrible as Bailin’s actions are (and they are), what’s really interesting are his motivations. So, enough of the quibble – what is really Bailin’s deal?

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czechs after a successful referendum on their way to annex Kaliningrad Region from Russia]

A friend shared this in the group chat and I had to look it up....

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Petition to announce a referendum on the annexation of Kaliningrad to the Czech republic

1 246 signatures (1 357 by the time of posting)

Kaliningrad, in Czech known as Královec,is a Russian city founded in honor of the Czech king Přemysl Otakar II. During its existence the city has belonged to Prussia, Poland, Germany and now Russia. We believe, that Russia has had its fun with Kaliningrad for long enough and that it is time for another country to take its turn in owning it, as has been the tradition for the 800 years of its existence. And since the city has been founded in honor of a Czech king, it should go in the hands of its rightful owner - Czech republic.

As Russia has shown with Crimea and now with east Ukraine, it is perfectly fine to march into another country's territory, announce a referendum and then annex that territory. This has given us a unique opportunity to expand Czech territory and finally gain access to the sea. So we ask the government of Czech republic to finally send soldiers to Kaliningrad, announce a referendum that will end with 98% positive vote for joining Czech republic, and then annex Kaliningrad and rename it to Královec.]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Slovak, Trnava: And when we reunite Czechoslovakia we will have access to the sea!]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czech, Olešník: Why shouldn't we march up to another's territory and annex it if others can]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czech, Prague: Signing, because Kaliningrad has always belonged to Czech republic just like trdelnĂk and dill sauce]

(neither trdelnĂk nor dill sauce is originally Czech)

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czech, Prague 3: The area is inhabited by a czech-speaking minority suffering discrimination from the locals. For the temporary Russian population we will create humanitarian corridors to Belarus. We aren't barbarians]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]
[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Polish, Katowice: Hit the insta story Make Life Harder.... Now it's going to be a flood of Polish signatures, because to Königsberg for Czech beer we'd love to drop by!]

[Signature from Netherlands]

[Three signatures from Poland]

[Three signatures from Poland, two from Czech republic, one from Ukraine]

[Polish, Poznań: We cheer the Czechs on for access to the sea]

[Polish: Gliwice: Yes. There will be good beer in the north. I like this]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Polish: KrakĂłw: For the glory of the great dumpling empire]

[Polish: Poznań: Signing, Czechs are such cool neighbors I want us to share more borders]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czech, Prague: Královec was never independent, if not for Přemysl Otakar it would perhaps not even exist. By denazification and demilitarization we will ensure living space for thousands of future Czechs as well as access to the sea, for which we have a divine historic right, just like Shakespeare has wrote]

(Shakespeare spelled phonetically for comedic value)

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czech, Prague: Not enough as reparations for 40 years of terror but as the first payback it should do]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Polish, Straszyn: In addition I ask for Moravian wine, Studentská and Kofola in every shop in Pomerania]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Slovak, Dulov: Signing this petition, because Russia has shown us that when you want something you should take it even if you'll look like a total bully and a moron. So why not, let our Czech brothers have this one]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czech, Prague 9: More legitimate than Russian referendums]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Czech, Brno: According to Putin it's perfectly legal so why not?]

[Czechs After A Successful Referendum On Their Way To Annex Kaliningrad Region From Russia]

[Polish, Olsztyn: As a representative of the Polish nation, I think it will be better for us to have Czechs in the South and North, and Russian friends as far as possible, preferably in some dark Siberian ass end of nowhere]

I have been cackling the entire way to the train station

Do you ever think about how Tolkien’s vision of the greatest evil in the universe was something he referred to as “The Machine” which was his way of talking about accelerated industrialism and mass surveillance and he wrote multiple books where the main villains were a dragon who sits on a huge pile of treasure that he never intends to use but incinerates anyone who comes near it, a man in a giant tower who’s wrecking the environment with his factories, and an evil being who uses what’s essentially a listening device to control the citizens of middle earth. And now Amazon is making a Tolkien show. Do you ever think about that.

The girlboss-ification of Galadriel bothers me so much. In the books, in Tolkien’s works, Galadriel is a powerful political leader, even by the second age. She is a princess of the Noldor, the daughter of Finarfin. She is proud and respected.

In the Rings of Power, she is nothing more than a bitter commander in Gil-Galad’s army. She can’t even control her own subordinates. (They call her “Commandeer Galadriel” not “Lady Galadriel”!) She is ignored by Gil-Galad and condescended to by Elrond, she is dismissed and rebuked. She has no influence and no status of her own. So far in the show, her motivation is just vengeance and her own trauma, there is no greater consideration of the fate of Middle-Earth, no political aspirations, no nothing. Her identity becomes one of being Finrod’s little sister, not a leader of her own.

In the Unfinished Tales, there are many inconsistencies in Galadriel’s history, but none of them suggest this powerlessness and this humiliation.

I don’t care if they make her out to be a warrior or not, I don’t care if she leads people into battle or not, I do care about her political power.

They say they are centering female characters, which would be great, except they are disempowering her. I would much rather see a woman in a position of influence and respect, than one who is good with a sword. This is Galadriel, who refused Feanor, one of the greatest elves of all time, when he asked for a strand of her hair, and in Rings of Power she becomes a cast-away who is thrown around, ignored, and manhandled by those around her.

I understand the need to have room for character development and growth, but this is not that. It’s such a performative attempt at feminism, she is a classic 2010 female protagonist. One who is good at fighting, who is the underdog, who doesn’t allow herself to be kind or gentle or have emotional vulnerability, because the writers forgot what female empowerment actually looks like. A woman with dignity and political power is so much more important than a woman who can carry a sword.

alright, now that Amazon has proven they’re so hell-bent on gender norms that they couldn’t so much as allow the explicitly canonical long-haired elves or bearded dwarven women in their portrayal, which historical cdrama team is going to take up the mantle and adapt the silmarillion? (I vote whoever did the untamed for effective execution of three distinct ages + handling of theme of rebirth + attention to wig design. )

one of the things i feel like is misunderstood about slytherins is the intensity and ferocity of their feelings and emotions… especially love.

a slytherin’s cunning doesn’t come from coldness, their ambition doesn’t come from apathy. even if they may not always show it, even if they don’t always act like it, slytherins are incredibly emotional people. when you are in a slytherin’s inner circle and they are loyal to you, they love you. maybe it’s platonic love, maybe it’s romantic love, maybe it’s familial love. it doesn’t matter, you are loved. they let you in and love you with their whole heart.

that’s why they will protect you, that’s why they will fight for you, that’s why they are loyal to you. that’s why they would kill for you, and die for you, and give you the shirt off their back or the blood from their veins or the air from their lungs. that’s why the idea of something happening to you is unimaginable, the thought of losing you is unbearable… because it’s heartbreaking.

that’s why if it’s you who hurts them, if it’s you who betrays them… you’ve broken their heart in the worst way. and they’ll feel that pain and heartbreak as deeply as they felt that love and devotion.

and hell hath no fury like a heartbroken slytherin.
