sometimes i wonder if killing you really took three years

or if it went by so suddenly i didn't even notice

i find traces of you in my art

and in my morning cereal

i still haven’t decided if i miss you

changing of seasons

because if i was a woman

i would talk confidently about painting my nails

or what clothes i wear

and my heart would not skip a beat

if i crossed my legs

or talked too much with my hands

if i was a woman

i would be loud

and i would talk a lot

and i would take up space

and i would not be ashamed of anything

if i was a woman

i would categorize my rage

as female rage

and it wouldn't lessen

or change

but it would be something

but now there are no words for what is inside me

no categories for my being

now

i am not a woman

and my mother will never understand me
