“Interestingly, because negative effects of pornography were demonstrated so definitively in Zillmann and Bryant’s study, researchers have had a difficult time getting new studies past academic boards monitoring the use of human subjects. If a study’s effects are known to be detrimental - and there is no proof the damage can be permanently reversed - ethics boards will refuse to allow a similar study to go forward. How could a university allow itself to so clearly harm students and other subjects under the auspices of social science research? Thus, subsequent researchers were unable to get new projects approved. Luckily, the data provided by the Zillmann and Bryant study are thorough and solid; the only thing outdated ab out the pornography itself and the amount consumed. Today, men who use Internet pornography typically reach the usage levels of the massive exposure group of this experiment, and the material they look at tends to be more hardcore.”
From Pamela Paul’s book Pornified.
This is why i’m always referencing Z&B.
The “massive exposure” group saw about six hours of mid-80s Swedish porn.
TL:dr We’re all fucked.
realized that the "problem of susan" misinterpretation is going to explode when the new narnia reboot drops and started chomping at the bit
i think what bothers me about a lot of "girl power" narratives is that they function on the implicit idea on the idea that women can become worthy of respect. and i happen to think that really caring about women means believing they already are worthy of respect. that historical seamstresses and soccer moms and forgotten sisters and sweet polite little girls and someone's weird grandma matter just as much as the warriors and politicians, even if they, personally, never accomplish anything "cool."
you're asleep right now but I wanted to tell you that for the first time in a long, long time (longer than you know) I think I'll make it. I think we'll both make it and we'll walk in the noonday sun and it will not burn us. listen, if you can't believe it I'll believe it for us both just like you did for me when I couldn't. listen, I'm holding your hand and I hope we both make it. listen, you are enough with the power of God behind you. the angels rejoice, my friend. they rejoice with us both. listen, we'll make it and I hope you're listening because I couldn't see that truth for a long time. I have wept tears of blood to get this far and I know, I know, I know we'll make it. both of us. listen, can't you hear the songs? the rejoicing? we'll make it, kids. all of us.
Several weeks ago one of my coworkers called me over into her cubicle and gave me a very unexpected gift. Her mother passed away recently, and she'd been packing stuff up at her condo to give to relatives and sell, so the home could be sold. The mother was an avid knitter and crocheter, and when my coworker came upon her stash of equipment, she told me, she "immediately thought of me as someone who might get some use out of it."
So, I have inherited a varied collection of knitting needles and crochet hooks, cable needles, sewing needles, and, best of all, now-out-of-print pattern books, mostly for blankets, because that was what this lady loved to make most. Plus, I also have a bunch of gauge swatches she made, pinned to little bits of card covered in perfect schoolteacher handwriting setting out the patterns they were made to test.
And also...
My coworker brought another bag, full of yarn and...knitted blanket squares. Her mother's last started project, before she got too sick to continue. And she asked if there was anything I could do with it.
It turned out, there are twelve completed squares, and I quickly located the pattern book they are from amid those given to me. It's a book of 60 patterns, meant to be put together however the maker wishes into blankets of 20 squares. I figured out which of the numbered patterns were already made, and selected eight more that I thought might go well with them.
So now! I am working on completing! My coworker's mother's last knitting project!
And I really am feeling very good about doing it.

I’M GOING BACK TO MINNESOTA WHERE SADNESS MAKES SENSE
by Danez Smith
O California, don’t you know the sun is only a god if you learn to starve for him? I’m bored with the ocean I stood at the lip of it, dressed in down, praying for snow I know, I’m strange, too much light makes me nervous at least in this land where the trees always bear green. I know something that doesn’t die can’t be beautiful. Have you ever stood on a frozen lake, California? The sun above you, the snow & stalled sea — a field of mirror all demanding to be the sun too, everything around you is light & it’s gorgeous & if you stay too long it will kill you & it’s so sad, you know? You’re the only warm thing for miles & the only thing that can’t shine.

blows my mind that i have little online friends who mildly care about me. it’s really nice
[insulting] you have so much room for character growth <3

I think the Christian worldview requires one to be simultaneously more cynical and more optimistic than the rest of the world
“Do it scared” but please realize that, if you Do It Scared too much and don’t let yourself rest + relax + have fun in between, you will fuck yourself up. If you “do it scared” all day every day, you will burn out badly and quickly. Sometimes this is temporarily necessary but please keep this in mind.
“She wasn’t crying because of the life she led: because, never having led any other, she’d accepted that with her that was just the way things were. But I think she was crying because, through the music, she might have guessed there were other ways of feeling.”
— Clarice Lispector, The Hour of the Star
I think my laptop died.
Am I doomed to buy laptops every two years for the rest of my natural life?
Anyone who thinks Jesus would be picking a political side if he showed up today has forgotten that his core followers included an anti-Rome zealot and a guy who was until then a tax collector for said Roman rulers. And he expected them to play nice and work together.
Heaven-fire paints the sky Lie on the cold ground, pray for a sign Craving a storm on a cloudless night
I never wanted a sky this bright How far we reach, it isn't right Green looks black in the waiting time This beauty I flee 'cause I'm scared of the dark But I'm reaching out my pink-torn heart And I won't let go tonight
No one has to justify their existence. Not by who they are or what they bring to the table. Every human is made in the image of God, and their value and worth is inherent from conception. End of story.
so if you have yarn or crochet thread and a crochet hook. what you're gonna do is get those supplies a decent amt but it can also be odds n ends yah def dont need a whole skein. but yes so you have your supplies and now you're going to chain 2 then make a double crochet in the 1st chain. then chain 3. then you're going to make a double crochet cluster in the loop space made by the 2 chains and the double crochet you did first. so to do that you yarn over inset your hook into the space yarn over draw up a loop yarn over draw through two loops on hook yarn over insert hook back into same space yarn over draw up a loop yarn over draw through two loops on hook yarn over insert hook into same loop yarn over draw up a loop yarn over draw through two loops on hook yarn over draw through 4 loops on hook first cluster done. chain 3 make another cluster in the same space. chain 3 make another cluster in the same space. chain 3 make another cluster in the same space. chain 3 make another cluster in the same space. chain 3 slip stitch into the first chain from the chain 3 after the first cluster essentially forming a circle with a flower in the middle. *chain 3. double crochet in the 2nd/middle chain. chain 3. make 3 clusters each separated by 3 chains in the loop. chain 1. chain another 1 this time 'grabbing' the chain 1 separating the two flowers. chain 1. make 2 double crochet clusters separated by a chain 3. chain 3 and slip stitch to first chain in the chain 3 after the first cluster.* continue from * to * as many times as you want then just break your yarn and idk do what you want with your new creation! if you use like fine weight yarn you can make dangly earrings or a choker or an earring or anklet etc. if you use thicker yarn it can be a garland. you can experiment with adding more clusters/petals but i dont think you should add less. you can also switch colours for each flower which wld be tots rad! anyways yh hope you have fun with this

The Corner2Corner Crochet Tutorial Masterpost
One of the most versatile crochet patterns is the corner2corner, or c2c, crochet pattern. Working your way up diagonally from the bottom corner to the top corner is not only a fun way to crochet a project, it also works up rather fast. Which is absolutely amazing when you were born with little to no patience, like I was😂🤣. This pattern is also very easy and thus very beginner friendly.
A little fun fact: the corner to corner pattern lends itself very well for grapghan crochet, so I’ll link a few tutorials on how to do that as well.
This is what corner2corner crochet looks like:
Enjoy!

Shocking how many people don’t know that hens lay non-fertilized eggs and think the yolk they’re eating is a baby chicken
everyone hates orange until they actually see her in context. "oh it's such an ugly color, too bright!" look at sunsets and autumn, look at campfires and deserts. she's the most beautiful and special part of the scene. now apologize.
