In ancient times, the dead were often buried with coins in their mouths. This is because many ancient cultures believed the dead were a bunch of assholes, and thought it was funny to make them eat coins.

Been going to sleep the past month with the Iliad and the Odyssey on a chair next to me level with my bed. ATP I should just tuck them in the blankets with me

my mom just had a 7cm brain tumor removed and since she's woken up she's been talking nonstop about this dream she had about going to an art gallery full of colourful paintings by a 'homosexual artist' named klimsdorf who was ethereal and wise, both young and old... at first she was convinced he was a real person but after failing to find him online she's accepted he was a figment of her subconscious mind and is now determined to bring him to life via painting his portrait herself. she's 67 and has never drawn in her life. and now this. blorbo from her tumor

In the song of Achilles she tried to make it seem like he was neglected as a child. And that's why he was angry. No he's just a cunt

What's up with modern retellings and taking away the love mothers show to their children in mythology. Judging from how thetis is in the iliad, I feel like Achilles was the exact opposite of neglected as a child.

Also like he was angry because his whole reason he went to war was for personal glory. And so whenever his ego was insulted he lashed out. And then he was angry because the literal closest person to him died. He doesn't seem to have any deep childhood trauma at least in the iliad.

"average greek myth involves a god turning someone into something else" factoid actualy just statistical error. average greek myth involves 0 gods turning someone into something else. metamorphoses ovid, who lives in exile and writes 40000 transformation myths a day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.
