ngl i had to explain this to my sister when she was going tHROUGH IT while writing a college admissions essay and it sounds stupid but i promise it really did help me

START BY CONNECTING THINGS EVEN IF THE CONNECTION IS WEAK AS FUCK. THEN, FLESH OUT THE CONNECTION A BIT. IF YOU STILL DONT LIKE IT, TRY AGAIN, OR FIND DIFFERENT THINGS GO STRING TOGETHER.

now this won't work for everything, ngl. for example, what i used to calm her down should NOT be an actual essay, i just said it to be funny. but what i told her was:

say i have two talking points. one is about how the very first calendar ever made (supposedly) was to track women's menstrual cycles. the second point is about the stripes on a zebra's ass.

bear with me.

i could go on a brief tangent about how the stripes on a zebra's ass will never be the same as the stripes on another zebra's ass. regardless, both sets of striped behinds have patterns. each zebra has their own unique pattern.

the same way no woman's menstrual cycle is identical to another's. periods are patterns, they are a recurring event. which is why the very first calendar ever made was to track this pattern.

see? the connection is thread-thin, but it's there. it's stupid, but it's there.

my advice is to start with minuscule, practically non-existent connections and then build from there. look for even the FAINTEST TRACES of a connection, like similar locations (an ice cream shop, the same high school, teachers, idk) names, etc.

OR. if that doesn't work, hmu! i can always provide more specific help if given more details, and i'm always down to help a fellow aspiring author~!

and sorry if this advice wasn't all that helpful, lol. i did my best to help, but i've been told trying to understand my brain is like being kidnapped and then thrown into a deadly maze with a map that, halfway through the maze, turns out to be false.
