World War II. A time infamous for darkness and death.

Arielle Nurmi and Eliana Khan were always in the shadows of society. Being outcasted and alienated was never a problem to them till Pearl Harbor. Their loyalty to the country that betrayed them only turned them fierce. A ferocity that caught the eye of government officials through hard work and determination.

What were they to do when their country called upon them. Offering a spot in the 101st Parachute Infantry as Pathfinders?

How were they supposed to work together when they never could rely on anyone?

It was their time to step out of the shadows and light the path to victory.

And here is an excerpt from the Prologue...

"What is this father?" The young woman spoke. He glimpsed at the old woman across from him. Sending her a warm smile before continuing. "It's your mother’s. Open it." Without another thought, she opened the box. A loud creaking noise breaking through the tension in that house. The rest of the children leaned over from their spots on the couch. Trying to spot the possible treasures inside. A small gasp left the girl’s lips at seeing the contents of the box.

Three old, brown leatherback journals sat with their spines exposed. Wrinkles running up and down the leather. To the left of the journals, pictures are messily stacked on top of each other. The picture at the top catches the daughter's eye. Two young women stood in full army-issued gear. One wearing a dark hijab, and the other a thick braid with goggles atop her head. Both women were smiling innocently at the camera.

The corners of the girl’s mouth stretched upward seeing her mother and one of her best friends happy. But it only raised more questions. As she continued to dig through the box she saw something lying underneath the pictures. Clearing the path she picked up the strange object. It was a pair of broken goggles and a patch. The flaming torch, with wings attached to its side. The symbol of hope and light. The fire is still burning so bright after everything it has seen. Death. Destruction.

"What is that?" Another man asked.

"It's your mother’s patch. Both of your mothers fought on the front lines with us." The older man spoke. All the children's eyes lit up like a forest set ablaze.

"They were pathfinders."
