I honestly would have thrived if saoirse ronan had gone to the met gala and used the theme + Ireland’s horrific catholic past + the upcoming referendum in a high art protest look for the repeal movement - like she supports the campaign and was nominated for an oscar, what a perfect moment to take advantage of such a stupidly opulent media-oriented event to make some waves. there was such glorious opportunity to mix it up with heavenly bodies/bodily autonomy and also to call out the church for its past atrocities in Ireland, all while looking celestial and divine. or ruth negga, who was there - though I can’t find anywhere whether she’s openly come out in support of the campaign or not, which is also a bummer tbh. just literally any irish celebrity, I mean there aren’t many at that level but it would have been iconic and I’m bitter.
