It's been cloudy and rainy all day.

You don't really mind the gloom𑁋it was probably needed after the last few days has been nothing but sun and warmer temperatures. Now, the muted sky, crisp air, and soft pitter-patter of rain hitting the windows offer a sort of comfort, like a chance to breathe deep and let your shoulders sag. Maybe if you listened close enough, you could almost hear the earth sighing with relief as it absorbs the moisture that whispered from the clouds throughout the day.

You take a sip from your cup of warm tea, the scent of chamomile swirling around you, the steam from the drink dancing upwards into the air. You relax your back against the couch behind you, letting the plush cushions melt beneath your weight.

Then a soft thump echoes against the floor, followed by a muffled curse and the clatter of what sounds like keys. You turn your head, seeing the door creak open as Seokmin enters inside, bringing with him a gust of wind that momentarily throws off the rhythm of the raindrops on the window. His hair is slightly damp and dark, plastered to his forehead in a way that suggests he may have run to his car without an umbrella.

When he throws his keys onto the table, the clang echoes through the room. Seokmin stands there for a moment, shoulders slumped, dripping water from the ends of his hair onto the rug below. He sheds out of his jacket, and finally picks his head up to meet you.

The clouds seem to have rolled over his normally sun-kissed eyes, his lips drawn into a tight line that mirrors the thunder rumbling in the distance. You can practically feel the temperature in the room dip a degree as he sighs, a heavy sound that echoes the sudden downpour outside.

"Hey," You greet him, setting your cup of tea down on the coffee table. "Long day?"

Seokmin runs a hand through his damp strands. "Yeah."

"Want to talk about it?"

He glances at you, a flicker of surprise softening the harsh lines of his face. There's a very, very subtle lift in one corner of his mouth, barely a twitch before it's gone, swallowed by the frown that still lingers on his brow. It's almost imperceptible, but you know Seokmin like the back of your hand. You can talk about it later.

"Maybe later, I just... need you," he mumbles quietly, then hesitates. "Can we..."

He gestures at the couch you're sitting on, and you immediately pick up on his motion. You open your arms up invitingly for him, and he practically melts into your embrace on top of you, shifting his weight comfortably, his head resting at the crook of your neck. Another contented sigh seems to roll out of him, the downpour outside softening just slightly. You wrap your arms around him, feeling the tension in his shoulders ease with each passing second.

You rest your head on his shoulder, the scent of rainwater and his cologne mingling in the air. You don't press for details, don't prod at the wounds that must be raw, and instead let the quietness take over, punctuated only by the mellow patter of rain and the soft rumble of Seokmin's breath against your ear.

Your fingers trace comforting circles on his back, and as you continue holding him, you can't help but notice a subtle shift in the atmosphere around you. The air seems to lighten, and a faint glow of warmth replaces the cool chill that had settled in the room. A smile blooms across your face at this, knowing that this moment of connection goes beyond the ordinary.

"I'm sorry," he mutters against your skin. "I didn't mean to ruin your day."

You let out an airy chuckle. "What makes you think that?"

Seokmin picks his head up from where it was nuzzled in the crook of your neck a little, a frown to his lips. "Well, I... Don't people prefer sunny weather over this?"

You smile reassuringly, tracing a soft path down his arm.

"Maybe some people," You reassure soothingly. "but I think some days the world just needs to breathe like this, you know?"

Seokmin glances out the window, seeing how the outside had turned grey because of him𑁋from a simple bad day. Shivers of guilt course through him, and it bleeds into the air, thickening the atmosphere and chilling the room even further.

A low rumble echoes from the sky, a thunderclap that seems to echo his thoughts. Rain lashes against the windows, becoming heavier now, like tears that can't be held back. You sense his shift, the way his warmth retreats, replaced by a prickling coldness that sends goosebumps across your skin.

"No, honey," You whisper, grabbing his hands into yours. "Don't do that."

The flicker of guilt in Seokmin's eyes catches yours as he looks down at you. "Do what?"

"Don't blame yourself," You say, your hand rising to cup his face. "It's not your fault. Come here."

You lightly pull him back into your embrace, his body molding back against yours almost naturally. Seokmin lets his eyes close once again, his somewhat unsteady heartbeat racing against his and your chest, simply letting your scent wash over him.

"It's okay to feel this way," You tell him. "It doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. The world needs rain too, right?"

"But what..." Seokmin takes a breath. "What if I-I hurt someone because I feel..."

The vulnerability in Seokmin's voice tugs at your heart, and you hold him a little tighter.

"You won't hurt anyone," You assure him, your thumb gently brushing away the worry lines etched on his forehead. "Your emotions are valid, love. And the weather, it's just... you know, responding to you. It's not a bad thing, it's just a part of who you are."

Seokmin has always held a twinge of hate for that part of him. To this day, he still doesn't fully understand whatever this ability he's probably cursed with is, but ever since he met you, he thinks that it's gotten better.

Your fingers find their way into Seokmin's hair, gently combing through the damp strands as he relaxes more into you, his guard lowering with each passing moment.

"It's okay to not smile all the time," You whisper softly. "We all have our cloudy days, and that's perfectly okay. Nobody is sunshine every day."

Seokmin has always been your sunshine, both figuratively and... quite literally. Sometimes you wonder how it's possible for someone to see the world so brightly. However, you've come to understand that even the sun needs to have its moments behind the clouds𑁋to allow us to see things only visible in the dark.

The rain outside seems to subside at your words, the drumming on the window softening to quiet taps. A warm breath hits the skin of your neck, sending shivers down your spine, and you feel Seokmin shift in your hold. He lifts his head up to look at you, eyes shifting down to your lips for a second, and a spark alights in his eyes. The warmth radiating from him through the fabric of his clothes feels almost like sunshine attempting to break through the clouds.

Leaning in, Seokmin captures your lips in a tentative kiss. It's a soft touch, barely there, like a whisper against your skin, but the way his warm breath mingles with yours and his hand finds its way to the base of your neck sends a jolt of electricity through you... and perhaps a slight tickle.

A soft giggle escapes your lips, making you both pull back from the the kiss. Now hovering above you slightly, Seokmin smiles, a genuine, sun-kissed smile that chases away the lingering traces of his earlier storm, the tips of ears flushed with a dusty pink. Cute.

Then after a few moments, a single ray of sunlight peeks through the clouds and through the window, casting a warm, honey-coloured glow on Seokmin's face. He stares at it for a moment, then back at you, a glimmer of surprise dancing in his eyes.

"Feel better?" You ask him, fiddling with your laced fingers.

All he does is chuckle as if the small patch of light shining in wasn’t enough of an answer, the hesitant grin to his face growing slowly. This, you think, is what it means when the sun always shines after the storm.

"A lot better," he responds, leaning back down to you with a newfound confidence, lips lovingly brushing against yours once more. Ah, there’s your pretty sunshine. And it's all because of you.
