the first time you see the dynamic between you and manjiro sano.

The window in front of you is wide— wider, you think, than the entire duration of your old bathroom mirror, and you test the odds, letting your legs dangle out of it. You don’t think you ever would’ve done that before, but the last couple of weeks have really bit you in the ass.

He’s quiet, but you can still hear him behind you; you feel his looming presence from where he stands in the door frame, and it makes you look to the ground, however many feet far down it is. 

“Are you trying to kill yourself?” You snort at how insouciant he is asking the question, straightening your posture as you test how the wind feels.

“If I were, I wouldn’t be doing it very well.” It’s upsetting that he’s as elusive now, living with you, as he was the first day you met him, but you ignore it when he sits next to you in the window frame.

You just sit in silence, like the two of you usually do, the exact opposite of how you believe two fiancé’s should.

“Did you get to pick your own dress?” The question rings in your ears and you realize even though he appears to be the one in charge of whatever he’s in charge of, he might know just as little as you. You shake your head, memorizing the modern high-rise skyscrapers that look to be your new rooms view.

“No.” His legs, short and slim, dangle next to yours now.

“I’m sorry.” And it really seems like he means it.

“It’s okay,” and it seems like you mean it, as well.
