the cheers from the sidelines fade away to nothing but a dull buzz as you zone in on your goal, and all you can see is the centre of the painted target in front of you. a deep breath; a single second. that’s all it takes for you to release the string and watch as your arrow hits the smallest red circle.

semi-finals, down. you lower your bow, your face a picture of satisfaction. striding off the archery range towards the crowds, you scan the sea of bodies. so many faces, but you’re only looking for one.

he pops up behind you and grabs your shoulders before spinning you around to face him.

“hey,” he smirks, studying your face. you swat his hands away in annoyance.

“hey,” you echo his previous statement with much more contempt.

“you’ve improved.” this is paired with a tilt of his head, as though he’s surprised at your sudden progress.

you roll your eyes. “well yeah. i wasn’t stupid enough to break my arm, so i had more time to practise, yangyang.”

he grins at you and gives you a high-five, which you gladly reciprocate. “too bad i can’t participate. i would totally crush you.” yangyang is your best friend, and you met through archery. it’s a shared passion.

“finals in ten minutes. you ready?” he asks, scratching his chin.

shrugging your shoulders, you bite your gum. “well. as ready as i’ll ever be, i guess.”

a ghost of a smile flits across yangyang’s lips. “you’ll do fine.” as he says this, he reaches out and places something in your hair. his skin connects with yours, and it’s as though bolts of electricity are running down your spine. you scrunch up your nose and move away from his touch, but he still manages to get whatever it is tucked behind your ear. when he’s done, you take it out, intending to inspect it closely.

your eyes widen when you see what it is. “a… flower?” a small yellow flower rests in the palm of your hand, its petals a velvety texture.

yangyang scoffs, slightly offended. “what did you think it was, a cockroach?”

“hmm. wouldn’t put it past you, for sure.” you look at it a while longer, admiring the way it lies so gracefully. it kind of reminds you of the way yangyang looks when he shoots, his back straight and muscles flexing as he pulls on the string.

yangyang’s hand blocks your view as he sticks it out, demanding, “give it back if you’re not going to use it. i picked out a nice one.”

for me? you almost say, but you stop yourself in time. nobody needs a rejection from their long-time crush right before an important competition. instead, you cup the flower with two hands, bringing it closer to your chest. “no.”

“why? it’s going to go to waste if you keep it anyway.”

“i like it now.” you stick your tongue out at him.

it’s his turn to roll his eyes and he smacks you playfully, trying to get the flower back. “can you at least let me put it back in your hair?”

you hesitate for a moment, but decide there’s nothing to lose. “...fine.”

you give it back to him, and this time, when he puts the flower in your hair again, you don’t flinch. actually, the feeling of his fingers against the skin of your cheek is nice. you make a mental note never to let him find out how much you enjoy his touch.

the second he finishes, the two of you look up as the announcer calls for all competitors in the finals to enter the field. amongst the shouts from the throngs of people around you, you put your fingers up in an L-shape on your forehead. “later, loser!”

just as you’re about to leave, he takes a step forward and throws his working arm around you, burying his nose into your neck. “what are you doing?”

he doesn’t say anything to that, only whispering into your ear, “good luck, sucker.” you chuckle at his antics, willing your heart to slow down. increased heart rates do not bode well for archers.

he lets you go and you give him one last glance over your shoulder before you walk back down to the archery range.

when it’s your turn to shoot, you can feel your hands shaking. not good. then you think about yangyang watching you from somewhere in the crowd, and you think about how all your life has been spent trying to beat him at archery. now, you’ve finally got a chance to prove your skills to him, and there is no way in hell that you’re going to let that slip through your fingers.

you nock your arrow and draw back your arm, and when the string is almost stretched to the fullest, your hand touches the flower sticking out from behind your ear. remembering yangyang’s words and his goofy smile, you take a deep breath and exhale slowly to steady your arm. one eye shut for a better aim, you adjust, and release the string.

the arrow flies straight and true. bullseye.

renjun~

you had a horrible day at work due to your boss working you to the bone, and renjun instantly caught onto it as soon as you walked through the door

“y/n? what happened, are you okay?” he asked, taking your hand and leading you to the couch once he saw how fatigued you looked

those few words alone were enough to make tears spill down your face like a waterfall

renjun’s heart hurts seeing you so stressed out and upset, he almost wants to go up to your boss at work and scold him within an inch of his life for overworking you

but he knew that right now you just needed him to hold you, so he stayed put and ran his fingers through your hair

“it’s gonna be okay baby, i promise. how about you go take a shower and i’ll make you something to eat, okay?”

jeno~

jeno already knew that you were going to have a rough day, since it was the anniversary of a traumatic event that happened years prior

he does whatever he can to make you feel less worse, offering his support, cuddles and even space if you need it

he reminds everyone that you know to give you some space for the day so that you don’t become overwhelmed

he’ll hold you as much as you want him too, wiping the tears away from your face and humming softly but he’ll also give you some alone time if you request it

“it’s okay now baby, i’m right here. no one is going anywhere, you’re safe right here with me.”

as much as he wants to, jeno has to stop himself from crying right along side you, wanting to be strong for you

haechan~

hyuck already knew that you were having a tough day, so he decided to stop by a store on his way home

he picked up a few snacks that you two liked and went home to surprise you, since he didn’t tell you that he was getting off early

“hey baby, i brought you some snacks.” he smiled and kissed your forehead, setting the bag down on the counter

you started sniffling and haechan pulled you into his chest, “aww c’mon you baby, why are you crying? you missed me that much?” he smiled and poked your sides

he takes you to the living room and sets you up with your favorite blanket and your snacks before plopping down next to you

he laid on his back and pulled you up to lay on his chest, pressing his lips to your forehead, “i love you so much cutie, don’t forget that.”

jaemin~

jaemin came home to find you in a puddle of tears on the couch

he dropped everything and rushed over, scooping you into his lap and stroking your head, “it’s okay baby, nana is here. tell me what happened.” he hushed you

you were finally able to calm down long enough to explain that you had received a phone call from your cousin saying your grandfather had passed away

he frowned and just held you close, “you don’t need to say anything else baby, i’m here for you.” he kissed your cheeks softly

he’ll bring you anything you need and will provide all of the hugs he can give to make sure you feel better

there’s one thing he hates most on the world, and it’s seeing you suffer

chenle~

chenle absolutely did not mean to make you cry, it was an accident… kind of

he didn’t know that you had one of the most difficult days with your bullies that you’ve ever had and when he came home and immediately made a sarcastic little comment about your face, you just lost it

chenle didn’t expect you to immediately crumble into tears and shut down, so he didn’t know what to do except pat your back

“h-hey, babe, i was just joking! i’m sorry!” he sat down on the floor next to you and pulled you into his arms

you sniffled and relaxed into his embrace and letting him comfort you, knowing that he didn’t mean it and that if he knew what had happened earlier, he would have never said it

as soon as you’re done crying, he’ll ask you about what made you break down like that, “something else happened today, i know it… please tell me. i want to help.”

jisung~

jisung has no clue what he’s supposed to do in these situations

he noticed how irritable and grumpy you were but he didn’t know what happened or how to approach it, so he called jaemin for advice

“i don’t know what to do, i don’t want to make them more angry than they already are but i don’t know how to help them either..”

jaemin assured him that he should talk things out with you and figure out what has you so bothered and upset

he took nana’s advice and approached you about your behavior, not expecting you to immediately begin crying and spilling out everything that had been stressing you out

he rubbed your back comfortingly and listened to you talk; even when he didn’t exactly know what to say

MARK … and you would have a pretty open relationship, he wouldn’t be the type to flaunt your relationship but he wouldn’t be the type to hide it either. the dreamies knew about you two and would absolutely love teasing you until your cheeks were bright red.

RENJUN … would probably want to keep you hidden for a little while. it wasn’t like he wanted to hide you away as if he was ashamed of you, more like he loved you so much and didn’t feel like sharing.

JENO … was head over heels for you. the dreamies knew about you way before you two had become a thing—so they knew just how whipped jeno was. when you both had gotten together jeno wouldn’t necessarily scream it on the top of his lungs, but he wasn’t quiet about it either.

HAECHAN … was very boisterous about your relationship. he would always squish your cheeks and pull you into his embrace, screaming a very high pitched “so cute!” while doing it too.

JAEMIN … would very much initiate pda with you in front of the dreamies on purpose. he’d drop some cheesy pick-up lines just to cringe them out, but he’d be very sweet and romantic behind closed doors.

CHENLE … would love showing you off. one hundred percent. he would always giggle and hold your hand, a loud “there’s my s/o!” leaving his lips every time he’d first catch sight of you entering the building.

JISUNG … would definitely be the private but not secret type of boy. he wouldn’t post much on his instagram or twitter, but when he did it was usually with you—with your face out of the picture. just something to show that he was taken but his love was just his to see.

in which you only know how to, sort of make the humble dish—mac and cheese.

renjun didn’t know why he found himself in front of your stove, hair slicked back as he carefully watched over the pot of instant ramen noodles at nearly 2 in the morning. actually, he did. he was in the middle of trying to fall asleep when you had blown up his phone—panicking about how you burned your precious mac and cheese pack. so, with sleep hanging heavy on his eyelids, he chooses to ignore that reason and tries to focus on cooking you something to eat.

“renjuuuun, i’m sorry for waking you,” you whisper sheepishly. you knew how irritable your boyfriend could get if he were to be disturbed in his sleepy state, but to your surprise he stands there eerily calm as he switches your stove off.

you watch as he drains your noodles and neatly places it into a bowl for you to enjoy. your eyes practically turn into hearts as he sits in front of you while pushing the steaming bowl of ramen forward towards you. his eyes are drooping as he sets his chin on his hand, staring at you.

“you know you can’t cook, what the hell possessed you to cook at two in the morning?” he yawns, watching as your eyes light up at the taste of his own mac and cheese. “thish ish sho gewd!”

he can’t help but laugh as you attempt to speak with your mouth brimming with noodles, your cheeks puffing out as you stuff them full. he loved to cook for you, even now as he nearly dozes off into dreamland.

“i was working on my paper and well—i didn’t have any groceries! those things are expensive…” you murmur, gulping down the last of renjun’s delicious noodles.

he scrunches his nose as you lick at your fork, grinning widely at him, “you should still budget your money for those things, y’know?”

renjun’s heavy sigh amuses you as you syand to place the bowl into the sink, your very sleepy boyfriend standing from his position in your small kitchen.

“c’mon sleepyhead. my bed’s starting to look real comfy.”
