Im enjoying the longevity of tumblrs recontextualization style of humor. a seemingly innocuous post followed by like "posts that a gnome would make" or like "are you a phone"

day later and im still thinking so much about the line "we're still cool, right? i know youve seen me.. smite a lot of people like you.. but i just want you to know-" from gillion and the implication that gillion now views chip as an Other. of course, hes not afraid of him, nor is he worried that chip is gonna become exceptionally evil or anything, but years of scripture and holy knighthood have made him automatically associate what chip is now with being inhuman. and chip probably doesnt need to be told hes not human anymore- what with the hole in his chest and ashen skin and black ichor leaking from his wound and mouth- but gillion looks at him with pity and concern and says "people like you" and what else needs to be said? chip is no longer the person he was at the beginning of this day and yet he still feels the same inside. it's so unfair. gillion never chose to need to unlearn 20 years of biased teachings. chip never chose to stop breathing. what else is there to do but to stand a little bit too far apart to be normal and make light of the cosmic joke of their lives? a paladin and a human who no longer is are best friends. the paladin asks, "we're still cool, right? even after you've changed?" and the undead thinks, "why should i not be cool? I'm still the same person i was 10 minutes ago, im just dead." neither of them knows if this is true. and the universe laughs it the fuck up.

since I've seen it talked about in several places recently:
if you are going to do a whump- or kink- or ANY-tober or other similar challenges please please please don't post them as one fic with 31 chapters unless it actually is one coherent fic. if they're 31 completely separate fics or ficlets then please just make a collection for them or just post them as separate fics. it doesn't matter if they're only 100 words or if you think they're too small or insignificant to post alone, they're not.
and why this?
because if you post all 31 of them in one fic the tagging is absolutely useless. if I look for things to read on ao3 I'm gonna look at the tags, and if the tags include something that's a dealbreaker for me, i won't even click on the fic. I might not even SEE the fic because I've filtered out the nope-tag! so I'm gonna lose out on reading 30 perfectly nice fics because of one fic that my nope-tag applied to.
ao3 is about archiving. it's about clear tagging and being informative. there is nothing informative about it if the tags in the fic apply to random chapters while others have nothing to do with it. it makes so much more sense to have each work as an individual fic with its own individual tags and warnings, so readers can make informed choices.
of course, you do you. I can't police what other people decide to do. but personally, I find it incredibly frustrating to weed through 31 chapters to find the ones I actually want to read. so I don't. I automatically scroll past all works posted like that. and I know some others do, too.
there is absolutely no shame in posting short things on ao3. there is no minimum word count. no one is going to look at you funny if you post a small ficlet on its own, I promise. it's just going to make some readers very happy when they can actually find the things they want to read.
so, please. at least consider the upsides of posting each work as their own fic.

Here's a lineup! and some extra concept stuff
Edit: I'll also provide some insight on my inspirations for the designs just because (under the images).
For Jay, I was going a cowgirl sort of aesthetic. I tried to combine this idea, her original outfit, and her new outfit all in one. I also found the idea that Jay is slightly taller than chip hilarious so I went with that idea. There's a theme of x's and that was mostly because I thought it looked cool haha. I also put her pin next to her gun holster, since that feels metaphoric or something idk.
For Gillion I went stronger on the shape language. I primarily based him off squares since hes the "tank" of the group. I hoped adding pink in his hair would tie him together with the warmer-colored group. But being completely honest I was also inspired by @/kutakunaga's design here. I still wanted to give a wild look by implementing stuff that was torn or sharp (the seaweed). I love his color palette the most.
Chip was definitely the hardest! For him I went with more triangles to have a more mischievous look. I knew I wanted to implement some sort of frilly to make his coat interesting. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I made his design the warmest, since he's associated fire! May not be clear, but the straps are for a dual sword holster in the back!

Inej and Matthias and Kaz and Nina are both sibling duos but they exist on complete opposite ends of the siblings spectrum.
Inej and Matthias are the siblings that post cute photodumps for each other's birthdays and go on trips together and text every day. They loan each other money and Matthias drives her around and Inej always brings him back something when she gets food.
Nina and Kaz are the siblings that fight over the smallest things and do the "he's touching me" "I'M NOT TOUCHING YOU I'M TOUCHING THE AIR" bit. Kaz just walks into Nina's room, stares at her for 30 seconds and walks back out. They eat each other's food despite Kaz labeling everything he owns and nearly kill each other over it.
Inej brings Kaz home and Matthias asks why he thinks he's good enough for his sister.
Kaz brings Inej home and Nina says, in full view of everyone "you're too good for my brother".
