Counting Down

Till the hand falls............. I bitch about things. I half-consider my blog a studyblr but it's mostly me complaining and whining about school and the things I have to do for the day.

any tips on time management and studying tips? im a college freshman and im fighting for my life everyday trying to keep up with everything being thrown at me, its so overwhelming… :(

(lowkey makes me feel like im too stupid for college…)

Hi! I just want to start off by saying that we all lose our minds with school and stress (hell, I just had my my 3rd (I think…maybe 2nd, idk) mental break down of the semester a couple of days ago. So no one is immune to this! You’re not stupid; college just a lot of shit to do all at once.

1. One thing I am starting to do is take the day of the week that I am doing school stuff the most (so a 10 hr day between class and clinicals) and then doing NOTHING school-related when I come home. I eat, I watch tv, go on tik tok, and try to plan out my homework for the next week while I enjoy a tv show, etc. Giving yourself a mental break once a week after a long day can be really helpful. And, this gives you something to look forward to.

2. SLEEP! Try to get at least 6hrs of sleep/night (more like 7-8, but 6 at the very least). This is so helpful to memory and your mental and physical wellbeing. One thing I’ve lived by for YEARS is, for the night before an exam, if I don’t know it by midnight, I’m not gonna know it for the exam. Meaning, I go to sleep now to be well-rested so I can do my best on the exam because it is a known fact that sleep helps with focus instead of staying up and trying to figure out that concept.

3. Learn how to skim a textbook, record your lectures (I voice memo my tougher ones to go back to), and if a textbook isn’t helpful, do NOT waste your time reading it! For more science-heavy classes, I’ve been just going to class and recording the lecture, and then after class, coming home and taking notes based on my lecture recording (NO textbook reading). This helps because I can pause and have time to write things down and go back if I’m confused or miss something…and I don’t waste my time deciphering a textbook.

4. When writing out your homework, write down everything you want to get done that day and pick the top three things you want/need to get done (I highlight these specifically in my planner each day). This will help you prioritize what you need to get done exactly (I call it the eat the frog method [harder stuff first])

I hope this was helpful! And remember, EVERYONE feels this way in college; it’s not just you! ❤️
