this whole twiins iink video thing has got me kinda annoyed so i thought i’d ramble a bit about my thoughts on the situation. sorry if this post is not entirely… well-written, it’s 2AM here.

firstly, i want to address one of twiins’ comments.

“News flash: You being upset that Adam didn’t fit the headcannon you wanted for yourself insert isn’t an issue, especially since he’s been dead for 3 years. :)”

i don’t get twiins’ logic here, especially after viewing her ironwood video. the rhetoric used against ironwood and ironwood fans about how ironwood was always meant to be a (genocidal) dictator and always meant to be evil and abusive (to winter) is the same rhetoric used against adam and adam fans about how adam was always meant to be evil and abusive (to blake). this comment can apply to literally any character and any arc. it’s a moot point.

back during volume 6’s finale, i was mad at how adam was done dirty in the show. i didn’t self-insert to adam at all. hell, I’m a gay woman, exactly the opposite of what adam is. he was an interesting character to me but nothing he did appealed to me in a way that i’d feel i could project onto him. his behavior is a lot more fiery and reactive than i am. i didn’t (and still don’t) project onto him at all.

my anger at how adam was treated wasn’t based on any “projections” onto him. it was based on the fact that the dude who was showing all the signs of a killmonger-esque villain (doing the wrong things for the right reasons) got shafted into an abusive fedora-tipping incel and was killed between major volumes in a death only two characters got to see. adam could’ve been so nuanced, but he wasn’t. and that’s what most adam fans are upset at.

i won’t deny that adam has a subset of fans (or stans) who are cringey and project their revenge power fantasies onto him, but they are by no means a majority. there’s a bunch of adam fans who aren’t like that. if anything, those folks who projected onto adam are likely the people who have already dropped the show and stopped talking about it. the people who still stick around and discuss how badly adam was handled? those are the ones who cared about his character and presence in the show, and wanted more out of him.

furthermore, in regards to telling adam fans that their “headcanons of Adam don’t really matter because Adam’s been dead for three years”… i disagree with that. yes, he’s been dead for three years. and? people are still allowed to be mad at how he was handled. there is no statute of limitations for how long someone’s allowed to be mad at how a certain character (or characters were treated). folks are still mad at the GOT finale and how daenerys was written. folks are still mad at the voltron finale and how keith and lance and shiro were written. just because it’s been three years since adam died doesn’t mean folks aren’t allowed to be upset at his writing. it doesn’t mean that they’re just not allowed to talk about it anymore. that makes no sense to me.

i’m really sick of people on both sides of the RWBY fandom assuming that folks are only mad at certain aspects of the show because their headcanons didn’t come true. the RWBY stans do it, now the RWBY critics are doing it. and it’s getting obnoxious.

this video by twiins feels like a broad brush, branding all adam fans by-and-large the same. i’m not a fan of her rhetoric here.

I want to write a Isekai’d Adam story, where he’s reborn as himself in one of Blake’s fantasy stories based on her life. I started writing the first chapter or the prologue, although now I’m thinking about rewriting it with his death scene. Adam has only read up to the point where him and Blake start fighting, but now that he’s been reborn he doesn’t want to die again. Maybe have a second chance at life, romance, and change (but not willing at first). So everything is basically the same about their world building, except some characters have more positions in hierarchy, and their fashion is divided between nobility & royalty in more formal and elegant clothes, and commoners in more casual clothes, but both are in historical clothing.

Adam is a prince, and probably the adoptive son of Sienna. With an unknown backstory and still has his scar. The SDC still exists. Blake is the princess of a Faunus safe haven. She met Adam at a Faunus only ball when they were younger in the original story. She’s scared and absolutely loathes story Adam and Rwby’s Adam at first, but grows to like him as he changes, becoming more honest, gentle, and thoughtful. Eventually they decide to go to a well known academy across all kingdoms for Faunus and humans, royals and commoners. Ruby is very similar to her RWBY counterpart but more wiser. At this point I’m wondering whether we should get him a therapist, was their therapy back then, just not officially called therapy? Or did we just spill to our friends, doesn’t really seem right. Not really sure what to do with the Faunus racism, since people don’t really change unless they really make the effort to or want to. Weiss is a princess of an enemy territory, but can attend the school since it’s on neutral territory. She and Adam are instantly enemies, but as their relationship develops they become allies then friends. This AU doesn’t have to be Tauradonna centric, maybe other relationships develop, or it can be whoever the reader decides is endgame, while leaving the the relationships open-ended.
