Thanks to some very vigilant people on Twitter (this post), I learned of this detail in the ATSV that completely upends my theories about Jefferson's death and the timeline on Earth 42.

We can tell that these are identical versions of the same photo by the pose of Rio and Miles and the background behind them. And see the difference? There is no Jefferson here.

Knowing Sony, they don't add small details like that for nothing, and most likely Jeff from Earth 42 was already dead at the time of this photo.

From what we can understand that 1) Miles G. was really mostly raised by his mother, hence the sharp Spanish accent. 2) In this photo, Miles is about 11-12 years old, so the Morales family 42 has been in this bad situation for several years (although we don't know when exactly they started having money problems) and 3) Miles 42 lives without his father for much longer than Miles 1610 does without his uncle, which makes his trauma even deeper and more distinctive, and the Mileses' interactions in the third film more difficult and interesting.
