i lit hate james😭✊🏻...

okay, one thing about james. he is the only marauder (casting peter aside) who i just can't forgive. i like remus, and while i dislike sirius i can at least appreciate his strenghts and his good sides. but i can't forgive james for the swm incident and many people seem to have trouble understanding why this isolated event ruins his entire character. because i am willing to believe that he worked on himself and became a better person after hogwarts (mainly because i don't think lily would have ever married him otherwise). i completely believe that even at hogwarts, he was considered a likable person by many. that he was fun to be around and friendly to most. that he wasn't all bad or only a bully.

but here's the thing. there are things you only have to do once to be irredeemable, and what happened in snapes worst memory, to me, is one of those things. i do not care if james was an amazing person outside of this one incident. and i understand that everyone has different morals and that other people can forgive james - or not forgive severus. unlike james, severus got a chance to redeem himself and he took it. he was still a bully, but here's where my personal perception comes into play again. i had many awful teachers who were bullies and i know how much it sucks (in my country, teachers are insanely hard to get fired, meaning they truly can get away with almost anything including obvious discrimination). i can't justify his mistreatment of students, but to me his good sides outweigh it, so i can forgive and like him despite this flaw while others can not which is valid too. but sexual harassment is not something i can forgive no matter the circumstances or the person who did it. i would feel the same way if the roles had been reversed and james had been the victim - i wouldn't be a snape stan. ultimately we all have our own individual morals that play into how we perceive these complex characters.

tldr: it doesn't matter to me if james was a balanced character and a good person outside of swm because committing sexual harassment 'just once' is still one time too many and makes anyone permanently irredeemable in my eyes

but like. it's occurred to me that even if Snape HAD actually been there, and even if he HAD picked up baby Harry and attempted to comfort him, people who don't like snape would probably find something to complain about that too

like, "how creepy to pick up your dead crush's baby!!! snape was a creepy obsessive stalker and lily wanted nothing to do with him how dare he touch her child without a guardian's permission!!" or something, or that snape would only make baby Harry feel worse (fair, I don't get the impression that Snape was a naturally comforting, paternal, or cuddly young man), or that he was about to, like, kidnap harry or something and grow another lily in lab conditions 😂

Severus out of Hogwarts after the werewolf incident, stops talking to everyone (even Lily) when he realizes that no one would look out for him, convinces himself that... it doesn't matter if his father Tobias is an abusive muggle or that Petunia (formerly) made fun of him, Severus would go to a muggle school and be happy studying chemistry and find part-time work to train his body in kung fu or (insert the sport you think is better for him) there, in some chemistry class he starts to see that Petunia goes to the same school, they start talking and apologizing to each other (Severus for reading Petunia's letter and Petunia for being rude to him) and they become friends, Snetunia is seeming cool to me.

No, literally! I had a similar experience with you as well. I talked about him with my friend group and (not) surprisingly, they were Wolfstar and Jegulus stans who red Crimson Rivers and ATYD. I had to defend myself when they called me a "Snivellus stan" and it's really embarrassing how these are 19 year olds who freshly just graduated from HS, say this.

This happened just three weeks ago and I'll say this, I'm very disappointed that people defend 4v1 and bullying. Fanfics tend to change Severus's whole personality into a pure-blood jerk who struts down the hallways and embarrassingly, is their "sunshine" James Potter.

I really wish that one day, even if they don't ship my ships, that they'll at least keep Severus's canon relationships with the Snape Gang and not turn them into Slytherin Skittles if they do not.

This is embarassing because once, I encountered a Jegulus and Wolfstar AO3 fanfic (approximately two to three years ago) where they (Marauders and Skytherin Skittles, who included the whole Severus's Gang) has planned the prank on Severus being he was apparently being homophobic to Regulus.

This is quite funny because Severus gives bi-coded with the Lily and Mulciber thing whereas Regulus is probably homophobic since the family traditions and it's the literal 70s. (Let's be real, they would be both homophobic but Severus wouldn't care if Lily was bisexual whereas Regulus would probably be disgusted if Evan opened up to him, lol.)

Back to the topic, I believe the girl in my friend group said with the lines of:

"At least Regulus didn't bully children!"

Hypocritical because, she literally has Minerva pictures all over her room.
