A Berry Bard Idea

A Berry Bard Idea

For context: In the previous game my character, Fonkin (a chaotic good gnome bard), was killed on a mission and subsequently brought back to life by a visit to the temple of the Raven Queen. While they were recuperating, the rest of the party was off at the beach and thought that Fonkin was thinking about their own mortality, Fonkin decided to take some hallucinogenic drugs instead and go berry picking with their dog, Amelia.

DM: After having your hallucinogenic berry-picking romp in this incredibly metropolitan area, the drugs begin to ware off. It’s about 4pm or so when you wake up, not feeling very well, to Amelia pawing at you and looking quite worried. You have then realized that what you had been eating were not berries, but were in fact ACTUAL FACTUAL ROCKS. This keeps you occupied on the toilet for the next few hours. As they’re ‘passing’, the main thought going through your head is “This is it!!! This is living!!”

*entire party dies of laughter*

Is there any reason on why Jefferson had a bust of Hamiltom at Monticello? I always see people talking about it...

(As soon as I got this I had an itching to answer it immediately).

That is the bust of Alexander Hamilton that Thomas Jefferson had in his home of Monticello. It was created in 1794 and Jefferson purchased it from Philadelphia. He placed one of himself and that bust across from each other in the Entrance Hall of his home. The busts meet at the eyes, staring at each other for eternity. The busts are still on display today. One of Jefferson’s grandchildren stated:

“the eye settled with a deeper interest on busts of Jefferson and Hamilton, by Ceracchi, placed on massive pedestals on each side of the main entrance—"opposed in death as in life,” as the surviving original sometimes remarked, with a pensive smile, as he observed the notice they attracted.“

When a visitor was surprised at the bust, Jefferson replied, “opposed in death as in life.” [x] his tone of manner showed no negative feelings.

As I started in my essay on the entirety of the Jefferson-Hamilton rivalry here, Jefferson did not speak about Hamilton after his death, choosing even not to reply to passages of letters from John Adams in which he brings up Hamilton. But really, we will never know why he needed the bust so badly. It is of my personal belief that had Hamilton survived, they would of struck up a correspondence later in life.

Yours is a long road, my friend, and it stretches on to places beyond imagining.

With your every step, these grand adventures shall grow more distant and faint.

And there may come a day when you forget the faces and voices of those you have met along the way.

On that day, I bid you remember this…

That no matter how far your journey may take you, you stand where you stand by virtue of the road you walked to get there.

For in times of hardship, when you fear you cannot go on…

The joy you have known, the pain you have felt, the prayers you have whispered and answered - they shall ever be your strength and your comfort.

This I hope - I believe, here at memory’s end.

Characteristics of Emotions:

Emotions are Complex; they generally consist of several parts or different reactions happening at the same time

Emotions are Automatic: Emotions are involuntary, automatic responses to internal and external events.

Emotions Cannot Be Changed Directly: We can change the events that cause emotional experiences, but we cannot change the experiences directly. We cannot instruct ourselves to feel a particular emotion and then feel it. We cannot use willpower to stop an emotional experience even when we desperately want to.

Emotions Are Sudden, and They Rise and Fall: Emotions ordinarily occur suddenly, although the intensity of a particular emotion may build up slowly over time. They are also like waves in the sea because they rise and fall. Most emotions only last from seconds to minutes.

Emotions are Self-Perpetuating: Once an emotion starts, it keeps restarting itself. We might even save that “emotions love themselves.” This is because when emotions sensitize us to events associated with the emotions. Examples: When we are in a house at night alone and are afraid, every little sound seems like it may be someone breaking in. When we are in love, we see only the positive points of the person we love. Once we are jealous, every time our loved one looks at someone else, it is proof of betrayal.

Emotions have Components: These components are interrelated, and each component influences all others. Thus, although an emotion can be thought of as a complete and transactional systematic response to external and internal events, it can also be very helpful to examine each component separately. A very important take-home message here is that changing just one component can often change the entire emotional response.

Some Emotions are Universal. There are probably about 10-12 universal emotions (e.g. anger, disgust, fear, guilt, joy, jealousy, envy, sadness, shame, surprise, interest, love). People are built with the potential, the biological readiness, for these. Others are learned and are usually some combination of the basic emotions.
