I'm not gonna tell you how to vote, BUT...

Here are some truths about the upcoming United States election.

Either Trump or Biden will win.

Our political system is designed around ensuring that either the Democrat or the Republican win. There is no "but if everyone rallies around a third party candidate..." argument, because...

Grassroots campaigns can't work. There are areas of the country that don't have internet or television. Congress just allowed the Affordable Connectivity Program to lapse, denying internet to even more people. There is literally no way for some candidates to get their message to huge parts of the country.

The Republican and Democrat candidates are backed by huge donor machines that enable them to tour a campaign trail. Independent candidates do not have this luxury.

Our country still uses a First Past the Post (FPTP) voting system, which is specifically designed to support only two candidates.

Our country uses an electoral (all or none) system, which is why you hear that voting for a third party candidate "takes votes away" from one of the major party candidates. For example, if Trump gets 48,999 votes, Biden gets 50,000 votes, and a third party candidate gets one single vote, Biden takes all the electoral votes in the state. All of them.

I really hope you make your peace with this now. Please, vote how you want, but with one candidate saying he will essentially outlaw transgender people, I can't imagine NOT voting for the only other candidate who can possibly win. Right now the polls are 50/50, which is absolutely insane to me.

In my experience, it's usually younger people who talk about either voting their conscience, or not voting at all to "send a message." I assure you, not voting doesn't send a message to the candidate who loses. Your message is only received by the millions of Americans who will suffer as a result.

I don't want to argue. I have no desire to fight with anyone over this anymore. And if you want to ask me "so I have to choose between two killers?" as a gotcha, then I'm sorry to say... The answer is yes. Those are the choices we've been given. And because the United States is no longer a true democratic republic, there's not a whole lot we can do to change that right now.

okay guys but in all seriousness the trump attempted assassination is going to rally the right like crazy. voter turnout will be going up. it is more crucial than ever that you SHOW UP AND VOTE IN THIS YEARS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

Trump isn't guaranteed to win this year's presidential election because he's been shot at. In 2020, Trump supporters voted in heavy numbers, but guess what? They still lost because we outvoted them. 

Do I want to vote for Biden? No, but I will since no third-party candidate has a winning chance, and I don't want Trump to be president again. Unless y'all are gonna overthrow the American political system and government, we need to vote.

It's normal to be terrified about this presidential election, but don't allow it to stop you from voting and trying to stop that orange fucker from returning to office.

i think its important for people to not lose hope or unity right now as we get closer to november and the polls

the assassination attempt is going to make trump a martyr for the republican party, and it will increase turn out from undecided voters and centrists, so now is the time for left-leaning voters to actually find unity amongst ourselves and VOTE!! if trump was able to lose his position in 2020, the first president to lose reelection in decades, then we can keep him out of the white house again, but only if we take action

unfortunately, we find ourselves in a position to vote for the lesser of two evils again, but if there isnt a concentrated effort made to vote together, then trump will have enough backing to make it back into the presidency. im not saying the 2 party system is productive and im not saying that biden is an ethical and good leader (his actions against palestine are abhorrent, and we need to hold him accountable for the complicity in genocide) but things will not improve under trump- he will continue the support of the ethnic cleansing of palestine, and make life worse for underprivileged americans under project 2025.

the deadline for voter registration is in october, registering is easy and you can do it online! and i encourage everyone eligible to use their vote to keep him out of office

Dungeon Meshi Opinion Time!

I haven't seen this brought up a lot but after having read the full manga (and I promise I won't spoil anything with what I discuss here!)

If there's one thing I love so much about this manga and its style amongst what has already been talked about AT LENGTH (the quality of characters, the neurodivergence, the food, the DEPTH)....

....it's gotta be the *eyes*. Namely in a fight. I don't see it too often but seeing folks who have these very 'normal' expressions, but they *all universally* pull the wide-eye-tiny-pupil-THREAT expression? And it's not like a traumatic response moment, or a dramatic beat.

That's just this style's 'fight face'. I absolutely and entirely adore it. That slightly-blank, dead 'focus on the target and NOTHING ELSE' stare is just SO GOOD. Kabru's a *really* good example of this in action, but I just. There's something about that blank-stare in combat just being normal for this universe that I ABSOLUTELY adore.

Not a single fucking Republican voted to protect roe. It was fucking overturned in the first place bc trump got three Supreme Court appointments.

Every fucking thing wrong in this country is almost certainly the result of Republicans being in power. In 2020, Texas cut half of the polling places in black neighborhoods, and doubled them in white ones, regardless of population. It was Republicans bitching about mail in voting, and constantly, constantly fearmonger about voter fraud. Literally, their platform is about making civil rights harder to practice.

Would you like to know why? It’s because Republican politicians know better than anyone that higher voter participation means higher republican loss.

But what do I see from the online left, champions of the oppressed?

“Voting doesn’t do anything, the parties are the same, the system is rigged, etc, etc”

Don’t sit here and tell me you give a fuck about marginalized people if you aren’t ready to march your ass to the voting booth and vote out the party actively stripping their rights away.

Holy shit. This might be one of my favorite reads in a LONG time. 97 chapters and not a one was droll. I THIRST for more content like this!

Anger sells better. Anger feels better, it feels righteous.

It’s easier to protest against a president you don’t like then to actually remain in charge and keep pushing ahead, even if small, consistent accomplishments are all you receive.
