Hello! This is my first tumblr blog, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Mostly, I reblog stuff, but I also have an original thought from time to time. He/She/They, but anything is fine. Call me Whisk or Whiskey :) [Aus]

Yep! It changes person to person. I can't explain how it affects other people because, well, I'm not in their brain! I can explain how my senses and abilities are changed, though:
Sight - my eyes are very sensitive to light. Bright lights such as a car's headlights at night or fireworks can hurt my eyes and/or give me a headache. Ironically, I can't see well in the dark AT ALL.
Hearing - I often need people to repeat things several times even though my hearing is perfectly okay because I can't focus on two sounds at once! If music is playing, I can have trouble telling what people are saying. Also, electricity. I can hear electricity. I tune it out most of the time, but it's like a high-pitched ringing noise that never really stops.
Smell - I have a pretty good sense of smell, which means that perfumes, scented candles, scented soap, and especially incense are EVIL. The smell is so strong that I can feel queasy walking into a candle store.
Taste - my taste seems completely average.
Touch - this is The Big One. I can't wear clothes that are certain textures because they make me want to rip my skin off. I can't eat food that are certain textures because they make me want to rip my tongue out. Showers are HELL because they can actually physically sting! Taking a shower with the water pressure too high hurts! All of this is a massive issue and impacts my daily life.
Social issues are even more complicated. I can't really read body language, tone of voice, or facial expressions at all. Everyone is like a blank slate most of the time. This also has the unfortunate side effect of not being able to tell if someone is glaring at me or just looking normally! Not being able to "read between the lines" via tone or body language means I make mistakes. A lot. This is part of why relationships are difficult. Neurotypical people (people who aren't neurodivergent) tend to speak in riddles, so it's easy to annoy them without meaning to.
i rmemeber asking my friend at least 5 times to explain autism to me in simple terms and it did not help and i feel like i shouldask again despite their english being as bad as mine

i love you more than the sea.
thank you for commissioning @actualbird!!! it was such a joy drawing the boys :'D

meet penis from my new cartoon "steamboat penis" where the titular character penis pilots a boat shaped like a penis right into some sharp rocks killing himself and all other 42 passengers on board
Hi o/
Autistic person here. Neurodivergent is, as far as I know, a friendly term and the term I use myself! It basically means "brain (neuro) different (divergent)" and is used as a term for many different things including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyslexia but for numbers (I FORGOT IT'S NAME I'M SO SORRY 😭), OCD, and others.
Autism means something different for everyone who has it, but in the end, it affects your senses along with your ability to socialise and interact. Just know that people's senses tend to be either dulled, enhanced, or completely average (like my sense of taste) and maintaining relationships (friends, family, romantic, etc.) is often a struggle. Autism does not affect someone's intelligence or ability to learn, nor does it mean they're emotionless. It's difficult to explain in any medically accurate terms because all of the research was done on young, white boys.
I have no idea if I explained what needed to be explained and I'm sorry this ended up being so long, but please feel free to ask me any questions! I'll do my best (^^)d
