i feel like people have forgotten how to be a generous audience when they read/watch something. like sometimes you have to buy into some bullshit plot points or a deus ex machina or a few loopholes as the price of admission for an otherwise fun time. sometimes these things are just gears that get us to where the story really wants to be, and too many people get caught up in those gears. sometimes you gotta meet a story halfway.

It’s so funny how JK Rowling’s entire career rests on the inertial popularity of a series that ended 15 years ago. All her other books fucking suck and no one talks about them because they’re shit, she’s completely tanked her public reputation, and fewer and fewer people want to be professionally associated with her. She’s gonna end up dying embittered and disgraced sometime in the next 20 years, still not having written anything of note since 2007, all while better writers render her one decent story increasingly obsolete by doing its central conceit far better than she ever could
