It doesn't matter if that fic has been in your drafts for years and is now self-indulgent to the point of parody. If Steven Moffatt is allowed to do it professionally, you are allowed to do it for fun.

This one is so old I don't even remember when I started but tried finishing it today. Still experimenting on how to blend skintones with pastels. Also I don't even go here, I haven't even watched this movie, but I saw a lot of pretty gifs and fanart and his look captivated me so here we are XD

They're all like a bunch of wet rats desperately clinging to a sinking ship, except the ship is only sinking because of the holes they've all been gleefully knawing through its hull.

Listen. Is Oliver Quick a pathetic wet rat boy? Yes, of course he is. But I don't think it's appreciated nearly enough how pathetic everyone else is too, in that movie.

Michael Gavey? Called popular kids "vapid cunts" for not inviting him to a party, called himself a genius for being good at sums (as someone who knows math - memorizing sums is not math), and made fun of a guy for hitting on a hot girl who didn't know her times tables. Tried and failed to manipulate the only other friendless loser he found into being friends with him based solely on mutual friendless loser status. Definitely hung around incel forums and believed most of his problems would be solved if the government would just force a hot girl to sleep with him. At least half a dozen levels more pathetic than Oliver at his worst.

Farleigh Start? Negged a random weirdo loser who he definitely had a crush on, only convinced said random weirdo loser that he hated him. Finally all but outright told this random weirdo loser that he wanted to fuck someone so insecure that they'd do all the work and he wouldn't have to do any, after failing to get his random weirdo loser crush kicked out of his cousin's house in other ways - including spying on said random weirdo loser crush having sex with his other cousin, with binoculars. Got so pissed off at weirdo loser crush implying that he was closer to Farleigh's rich family than Farleigh was that he responded with public humiliation, then got himself tricked and kicked out of his rich family's house because after all that, he did in fact still wanna fuck anyway. Also consistently obsessed with getting approval from his racist family, because they were rich and socially well connected and he wanted that, too. Pathetic levels: close to Oliver's, but at least he never committed murder so, like, probably one or two steps up from end-stage Oliver Quick at least.

Venetia Catton? Does nothing except swan about her family's giant mansion while drinking excessively, spouting off faux-edgy nonsense about the full moon, and hitting on her brother's friends only to get mad when they choose his delicate sensibilities over sleeping with her again. Also extremely classist, and compares Oliver to a "serf" as an insult because his polite small talk brings comfort to her mother after a devastating loss but Venetia finds it annoying. Pathetic levels: on par with Farleigh.

And of course, let's not forget Felix Catton! Has literally everything he could ever want without even having to ask for it, but can't handle not being in control of anything ever. Feelings as delicate as flower petals, and will ghost supposed best friends over calling his extremely filthy room disgusting or him spoiled. Feels entitled to other people's private information and then turns around and gossips about said private information with whoever he wants, but gets mad if the same gossip is shared by others without his approval. Doesn't respect other people's boundaries, gets mad about his boundaries being disrespected. Thinks of himself as untouchable, gets murdered by the guy who literally everyone watching the movie can tell is kind of a pathetic wet rat of a man. Pathetic levels: Off the charts. Super pathetic. 11/10 more pathetic than there are levels to count.

Anyways, I just think the fact this movie was a whole cast of pathetic wet rats is part of what made it so great, and more fanfic should explore that aspect of other characters too.

Just finished a book that had a nonbinary character from a culture of people who all were culturally opposed to binaries in any form, and thus all used gender neutral language.

And okay. Look. Here's the thing.

That character is cisgender in their culture.

Cisgender just means identifying with the gender you were assigned at birth.

If the cultural expectation is that gender is nonbinary regardless of body, then preferring any binary gender, again regardless of what body the character is born with, would make the character trans, but identifying as nonbinary does not.

And I got the very strong sense that the author of the book didn't realize that.
