SONG OF THE DAY
SONG OF THE DAY
Day #4
The pick today is Best to You by English Alternative R&B artist Blood Orange from their 2016 album Freetown Sound. This song is one of my favourite listening experiences blending vocals provided by Empress Of with a backing track sampled from/similar to Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s transportative piece Ever New. The song's lyrics explore the emotions and experiences of a one-sided relationship, but it isn't melancholy or sombre in its tone due to the sounds behind them which, on their own, are sanguine, evoking new beginnings. It is an interesting combination and difficult to describe, but beautiful nonetheless.

Throw away, throw away, throw away… ”

Song of the Day!!! ✨
Today is Lupa J’s cover of Smalltown Boy originally by Bronski Beat, one of my favourite 80s songs. I found this one by seeing the artist breakdown their production process of another song on TikTok.
Smalltown Boy has always struck a cord in me I cannot describe, and Lupa J’s cover keeps the palatial sensations of the original but elevates it to something somehow more striking without losing that original feeling of awe.

Dear reader, they were, in fact, not totally normal about this ship

Song of the day!!
I've decided to start doing a song of the day and post it here (when I remember) cause why the fuck not and no one cares 🤷♀️
It may be interesting to look back on if I keep up with it.
Today is Skanka by Hamdi. It fucking bangs and I like how it kinda lifts mood wise but still goes hard. I found it on TikTok, and it has a similar vibe to another song by them, Push, which is also worth a listen as it’s a colab with Skrillex and is shortlisted for my Tripple J hottest 100.

If you have Spotify reblog this and tag what your number one song on your “on repeat” playlist is.
