Maybe he knows things are getting bad again, or maybe he just wants you to know that he would do anything for you. Either way, he presses soft kisses to the places you used to hurt, showing your body the love you neglected to give it.

At first, when you started to date, it was something you didn't want to talk about. Something that you were almost ashamed of. You were worried he'd think you were weak or gross or freakish.

If anything he thought you were strong. He admired you, he knew that you'd gone through a lot and that you were getting better.

Leo Valdez had been almost painfully aware of you since he had met you. Like a rock in his shoe he couldn't kick out, always lingering in his head and around camp.

At first, he thought it was just because of how you looked. You were attractive. He wasn't blind. But normally his sad longings for pretty people ended after a few days, but that didn't seem to be the case for you.

He didn't even know why he was so fixated on you, the first time he tried to talk to you, you just rolled your eyes and walked away. And every time after that. Ouch.

So...Leo started watching you. Not in a creepy way, really! Just whenever you were around he found himself paying a extra bit of attention to you.

Quickly, he realized you were like that to just about everyone except your siblings and a small (tiny really) group of people.

He couldn't express how badly he wanted to be in that group.

Then one day, while running to get something for Piper, he found you sitting in the strawberry fields, couched down, hand held out to a small white rabbit.

"C'mon it's alright.." he heard you whisper to it, "C'mon buddy.."

He was frozen, watching you whisper to the small animal. You were so soft. It wasn't like he'd ever seen you before. All of the sudden the rude, off-putting person he thought he knew was gone.

He watched the bunny approach you enough that you raised your hand, letting it sniff you.

And Leo Valdez knew he was done for.

After that, he followed you around like a lost puppy. Trying to talk to you as much as he could- offering to walk you to your cabin after campfire, or leaving his table to talk to you during lunch. Each attempt unsuccessful. Met with eye rolls and scoffs.

but slowly, it became less annoying and more enduring.

you were still snippy, and rude, but all of the sudden, you found yourself letting him trail behind you.

Once, he showed up to the arena when he knew you were training (a bad habit he had) and he found you there... with a giant black hell hound. Your hand behind it's ear.

"Ohhh such-a-good-girl! mhm- yeah- sososo good-"

Leo realized the hell hound was Mrs. O'leary- but there was a moment of prominent panic when he first saw you.

the more time he spent with you, the more he realized how lovey you were animals- all of them.

Racoons that found their way into camp trash cans? you had a new best friend. The black cat that hung around the Hades cabin? he had seen you with it on multiple occasions.

Slowly.. Leo came up with a plan. It was so obvious! Animal lover?? He had a whole dragon! Isn't that like.. the best animal?

So finally after a few days of prodding, he got you to follow him into the woods.

"It's so cool! you'll love it- I promise." He practically bounced though the woods to bunker nine, he talked fast about how you would love It and then, outside the forge..

"Is.. Is that a.." Leo watched as your mouth dropped open.

"this.. is Festus."

"Can.. can I..?" He nodded, watching as you slowly approached the bronze dragon, slowly raising your hand to pet his nuzzle.

It took about thirty seconds before your arms were wrapped around its neck mumbling about how amazing he was. Festus clearly enjoyed the attention, clicking and purring(?), nuzzling into you.

"You like him?"

"How could I not look at this big olde' baby-" and you look up at him. You're smiling wider than he'd ever seen you. You open and close your mouth once before a quiet, "Thank you.. Leo."

He could barely breath.

Maybe you weren't completely in love with him. He could handle that.

In your eyes, the gesture was how Leo showed you he actually cared about you. That he paid attention. Maybe that's why you started sitting by him at campfire, and now he wasn't always the one who started conversations. A friendship bloomed quickly, and your feeling for him even quicker.

and all because of a metal dragon.

"how many onions should i cut up?" He asked, he was bent over holding one of your moms kitchen knives. A smile plagues his face as he watches your eyes scan over the pages of a cookbook.

He loved cooking, or he loved his memories of cooking. He used to cook with his mom, but... He hadn't gotten to actually cook anything in the years since she passed.

"uh... Just the one? You have to dice them though-"

"dice?"

"like...really small or somethin'? hold on ill show you how i was taught." You said putting down the book and slipping onto the chair next to him, "gimme-"

He handed you the knife and watched as you cut the onion. He knew he was supposed to be watching how to do it properly, but how could he be expected to focus when your right there?

He zoned out, watching you. He only snapped out of it when you said his name again.

"leo-?"

"hm? Yeah?"

He paused weighing the options in his head.

"..i did...Kinda."

You tried to look irritated, but you couldn't help how you smiled.

There's a long pause, you watch silently as his face falls slightly.

"i love you." He whispers. It was hard for him. Hard for him to say i love you, hard for him to let himself think you loved him back.

Your hands move to cup his face, pressing a soft kiss on his lip. His hands move to your waist and... Heaven.

Once you pull away, he stares at you for a long moment, only being distracted by a bubbling noise.
