Trsr Reacts , Their Older Crush's Age Gap
ââââ trsr reacts , their older crush's age gap

synopsis: treasure gets insecure about their crush's age difference.
info: comfort angst + fluff | treasure x gn!reader
head's up: established relationship, insecurities, 2 year age difference, intrusive thoughts (?), not proof read, grammatical and structural errors, lowercase and smaller text intended!

CHOI HYUNSUK
the moment he saw you, he was head over heels and wanted to get to know you more. when he found out that you were older than him by two years, it honestly didn't phase him that much. surprised, but not exactly taken aback. genuinely thought you were the same age as him but is overall not too worried about the age gap. one day though, you were talking about one of your guy friends who is the same age as you. the way you spoke highly of him, well it got hyunsuk a little insecure. it made him think that you like people who are the same age or older and once you noticed how quiet he got, he was quick to cover all his emotions up and made a simple joke out of the whole situation. "oh, so you like older people, huh?" "uh... not really, i actually like you, hyunsuk." "uh what? (ďźÂ´Đ´ď˝)ă" til this day, you make fun of him for that joke. let's just say that hyunsuk was hittin' the dougie straight up LMAO
PARK JIHOON
everyone knows that park jihoon likes you, and you like him so why was he feeling down when he saw you with your guy's mutual friend, who he knows is the same age as you? jihoon's usually pretty confident in himself and he honestly took that whole encounter as a sign to just confess already. why best around the bush? his confession was sincere and full of love but there's was just something... off, almost like vulnerable. it wasn't something you seen often from him but that made you accept his confession even quicker. you do take the time to sit him down and ask what's up. at first, he brushes it off but once you tell him that he could tell you anything... boy would not shut his mouth LOL it all worked out in the end because you shut him up with a big ol' kiss (ă ´ Ë `)âĄ
KANEMOTO YOSHINORI
at first, he wasn't phased about your small age gap but he soon because the color green whenever he saw you with that one coworker. he wanted to talk to you about it but then he felt like he didn't have the right because technically, you weren't together. yoshi swallowed his pride because the thought of losing you to someone else especially when you like him back was way bigger than his ego and pride. talked to you in the softest voice, so soft that you almost didn't hear him. once the words "i like you, y/n" tumbled past his lips, you had to do a double take, "come again?" you ask him and his cheeks turn red awwwww after confessing though, he felt more secure in your relationship. safe to say that he was the color pink now (â˘ÓŠâ˘)âĄ
KIM JUNKYU
genuinely thought you didn't like him back and made up this whole narrative about how you like those who are older than you rather than younger and that you'd never date someone like him. you'd honestly need to make the first move because he's certain that you only like him platonically. as you can tell, this man is wayyyy insecure. he dug himself this little pouch insecurities and got way to comfortable in it. "kyu, you know i like you right?" "yeah, of course y/n. we're friends :)" "no kyu, i like LIKE you!" man fr is clueless for a second, needs a second to take in what just happened. once he's good, he looks exactly like (ŕšËĚľá´ËĚľ)Ů ďžď˝ź!
TAKATA MASHIHO
pretty secure with himself tbh. i don't really see mashi getting insecure but if he does, he bottles it up and stashes it away deep in his brain. once you've gotten into a relationship with one another, he totally forgets the small insecurities he felt because his love for you definitely overpowers it! he usually brings it up once he's over the whole ordeal and makes a joke about it. "before we got together, i thought you fr liked older guys hehe" "hUH WHAT?" though he doesn't need or ask you to, you're showering this boy in love, praise, and all the above to shows that you love him for him! :3
YOON JAEHYUK
so smiley all the time, you don't even realize that he's practically melting inside because of how sad he is. an absolute kicked puppy if he sees you being buddy-buddy with someone your age. you started to notice that he gets less affectionate after he sees you with that person. it started off as less texts and calls, he stopped linking his arms with yours, he would find any excuse to not hang out. def got sick of it and called him out, "if this is your way of saying you don't like me anymore, that's okay but i'd rather you tell me to my face." you were beyond pissed and upset because of this whole situation and it was so silent that you could even hear hyuk's heart crack :< "y/n, i like you so much it hurts. i just thought you didn't like me because of our age difference ( áľĚ´ĚśĚˇĚĽĚ _áľĚ´ĚśĚˇĚŁĚĽĚ )" you literally giggled because you never even worried about your age difference. made sure to make it crystal clear that you like him for him, not because of some age T^T
HAMADA ASAHI
never voices how upset he is but it shows through his body language. he thinks very logically and he knows that you like him back but for some reason he gets too worked up about it and makes up all these scenarios in his head. even if he hangs out with you, "does y/n care about my age?" is always at the back of his head. tends to ignore it but one day he just got so worked up about it after one of your friends saw you at the same cafĂŠ you and asahi were hanging out at. once you friend walks away, he kida just word vomits everything he's been feeling when it comes to your age gap. definitely surprised and confused because you never saw anything wrong with it but you were also surprised at the fact that he felt comfortable enough to even bring it up, even if it was being babbled out. hearing you laugh at him was probably one of the most heartbreaking things he's ever encountered but once you tell him that you're absolutely wrapped around his finger... ayo why tf he gettin' up to do his robot dance rn? đ¤¨
BANG YEDAM
tries to have it not mess with him but he can't help it. you're absolutely perfect and the fact that you like him back is almost heaven. but like i said, you're perfect in his eyes which means that there's the possibility of others seeing you the exact same way. honestly, this deep seated insecurities is what drives him to just suck it up and confess. you both know that you like one another but this is different. he's actually verbally saying it, and not just to anyone, not his hyungs or friends, but to you. once he finally gets you alone to talk about it, you weren't surprised in the least but you were curious as to what made him want to do it between 5th to 6th passing period LOL he brushes it off and says he'll tell you after school and when that time rolls around, you can't help but giggle at how absolutely adorable you find him. "i like you. you're perfect for me, and i don't want anyone else, bang yedam" awwwww (´;︾;`)
KIM DOYOUNG
fake laughs his way through his insecurities. y'know how he has a fake laugh and then his real laugh is super high and squeaky? yeah... you've noticed it and his actual laugh is something you wanna hear all the time. might as well have it as your ring-tone, your alarm, notification tone... shiii you name it! but then, you notice that his laugh starts turning into one that's reserved for pity-laughs, and awkward situation. one time you made a cornball of a joke and all he did was let out two pity chuckles and called it a day. you definitely frowned after that :< senses your mood changed after you started getting more quiet and less responsive so he asks what's up. "i just feel like you're mad at me or something? i don't know, it's okay if you are but i just wanna know why" you can see his face soften up as he explains why he was distant so you punch him once for this whole situation, then twice for not laughing at your absolutely hilarious jokes, and as he waits for his third one, he's met with a soft peck to his cheek instead AHHHH
WATANABE HARUTO
like mashi, i feel like he doesn't care. ruto is so nonchalant and chill about everything, it's almost impossible to get a rise out of him with this kind of thing. you like him and he likes you, right? tell me why he starts to get a little pang of something in his chest while seeing you interact with someone your age though? he's not sure but he writes it off as, gosh knows that LOL brings it up out of the blue while you two hang out, on your phones. "do you like to date older people?" "uhm... no???" "okay good, because i like you a lot... like i wanna date you" you literally faint on the spot LMAO but your quick to say yes to his date and when he finally looks up from his phone, he feels the same pang in his heart but instead of it being painful, it's one of absolute adoration for you T^T
PARK JEONGWOO
tries to make a joke out of it but you quickly catch on. ignores your pleas to tell you what's wrong and when you just quit and distance yourself so he can have space to think, he takes a second to realize that you're not there. gets upset with himself because he should've just communicated with you but he's so down bad and you're so beautiful that he can't even look you in your eyes BRUH finally shows up at your front door and is like asahi, word vomits all his emotions which leaves you like "what? ( シá´ď˝ĽĚĽĚĽĚĽ )" LMFAOOOOO straight up just blinking at him before giving him a big ol' hug. now woo's the one who's blanking out and just blinking. "i like you too, idiot" AJSOKWD
SO JUNGHWAN
isn't sure why tries so hard around you, like he knows you like one another but why is he acting 10x weirder and bolder when there's someone your age around you? you, of course, figure it out quickly when you asked his hyungs if he was okay bc wtf is going awn...??? fs put two and two together and instead of walking on eggshells with him, you make the decision to just hash it out. has a hard time explaining why he feels this way but when you tell him that it's normal and valid, he feels super relieved. "i can't believe you started break dancing because you were jealous" "sHUT UP!!!! >:("

Ę â˘á´Ľâ˘Ęăâ treasure taglist! @yogurteume ... @tayhunwoo ... @h4chi ... @enhacolor ... @wonluvrbot ... @rutowonz ... @setakdongies ... @ncizen ... @byeongsung ... @saeromiz ... @kyufilms ... @sunoo-bby ... @dancinginthetaillight

moments of intimacy with tbz

sangyeon:
cooking together, slow dancing to r&b music that fills your kitchen in down time. singing duets together, no matter how terrible it sounds. doing his makeup and kissing the lip gloss off of him. teasing him about how deobis have claimed him as husband material. tracing shapes on his arms to hear him whine about how it tickles. grocery shopping together, where he lets you ride the cart and holds you on his shoulders so you can reach the top shelf. making sweets for him to see him light up.

summer of love (ljn)

âł pairing: lee jeno x reader
âł word count: 15.2k
âł genre: â90âs!au, brotherâs best friend!au, summer!au, neighbor!au, slice of life(ish)!au, fluff, slowburn
âł summary: The summer of 1997 was a weird time. As a person living in the modern era, youâd completely forgotten what it was like to live in the â90âs. In May 1997, you listened to the Backstreet Boys, flipped through TV Guide, and had an answering machine which seems so archaic now. But that isnât the only reason why the summer of 1997 was weird. That summer was the time you fell for your brotherâs best friend.
âł warnings: minor cursing, making out

SUMMER 1997
Your second year of college is over. Youâve taken your last exam, and itâs finally time to ditch your dorm and lousy roommate to go back to your childhood home for the summer. Itâs a three-hour drive with no rest stops from college to your home, but it took longer due to the gas station stops to get junky, sugary snacks and coffee. But eventually, you made it back home in one piece.Â
Your childhood home looks almost exactly the same as you left it: The old, green, flowery wallpaper that your parents keep forgetting the change still hangs in the kitchen, the brown carpet in the entry hallway with the weird stain is still there, and the pantry still has an endless supply of potato chips. The only thing missing are your parents.Â
âY/N!â Renjun exclaims, coming to hug you. As your older brother's arms lock around you, you notice how different he feels despite last seeing him only two months ago; prickly stubble pokes at your skin, and he definitely has been working out.
He parts from you, moving to the answering machine sitting on the kitchen counter. âWhere are mom and dad?â You ask.Â
âOut,â he says abruptly, playing the messages in the machine before clearing them out. âTheyâre shopping to make dinner. They thought you would come back later. And by the way,â he continues, âJenoâs coming over.âÂ
âOkay,â you respond back simply. At this point, youâre used to Lee Jeno; heâs practically your family, in that the Lees live only a few houses from yours. It is honestly a wonder how Renjun and Jeno have remained friends since they were five-year-olds running around the neighborhood grafitti-ing the sidewalks with colorful chalk designs without growing apart or finding people more apt to suit their developing selves as time passes. It seems that instead of growing apart because of the new scenes and sounds in their adult lives, they were growing together like two parallel vines despite the distance they had to combat in college. When you hear the doorbell a few moments later, you know itâs Lee Jeno.Â
He certainly looks different than what you remember with dark hair this time and a slight tan. You havenât seen Lee Jeno since winter break when he was staying with his parents across the street. Just like you and Renjun, heâs back home from college after the school year, and youâve seen him around a couple of times a year with all the school breaks.Â
âY/N!â Jeno smiles in that very Jeno way that makes everyoneâs heart melt. He leans down a bit to meet your eyes, taking his thumb and forefinger of his hand and squishing your cheek. You playfully bat his hand away.Â
âQuit doing that!â You giggle with a pout on your face. âIâm not a baby anymore! I go to college!â You say incredulously, a little bit of a whine in your tone.Â
âYouâre always a baby to me,â he teases. You roll your eyes at this, moving over to let him in.Â
âJeno!â Renjun yells, ditching the answering machine. He rushes over to hug the other boy. âItâs good to see you.âÂ
âYou too Jun,â Jeno replies. You smile at the sight.
âLetâs play pool,â Renjun says. Jeno agrees, nodding. Both boys go to the basement where your familyâs famous pool table resides (your father having gotten it for free from some bar closing in the â70âs), and Jeno shuts the door loudly on his way out. Youâre about to rain on Renjunâs parade and tell him to come back and clear the answering machine he left behind, but you think against it. You didnât feel like interrupting a friendship that is so beautiful. So you sit on the chair that Renjun recently left, pressing the âlistenâ button on the answering machine.
As you listen to the promotional spam calls from companies trying to sell you things that you didnât need or couldnât afford, you purse your lips. Seeing Renjun and Jeno together almost made you jealous; none of your high school friends were back from college, and through the few calls you all would have during the school year, theyâre off doing bigger and better things than this sleepy town that you call home.Â
That night you were going to sleep in your bedroom filled with cassette tapes, posters and pink and yellow wallpaper that you picked out when you were seven. After satisfactorily wrapping yourself in your comfortable blankets that smelled of lavender detergent (your favorite scent), you stare at the ceiling. You couldnât imagine not visiting this place.Â

So you have a secret. No, not of the deep dark kind, but something that would definitely earn you a lot of teasing if your friends and family found out about it. One of your biggest guilty pleasures is the movie series The Zygon Kingdom, a science fiction franchise about alien invasions. Stereotypically, people think this series is for losers, gamers, and nerds who live in their momâs basement. When youâre in public, you try your best to refrain from comment or make fun of the series alongside others, but in private, you secretly anticipate the new movies, going to see it immediately when it comes to theaters.
And thatâs what youâre planning on doing today. Today is the release of the fifth movie of the franchise, The Zygon Kingdom: A New World. Finally, you actually had plans; you were starting to look pathetic with how much TV you were watching; your parents were even joking that the most recent book that youâve read is the TV Guide that was mailed a few days ago. On top of not having friends to hang out with this summer, Renjun, a fresh graduate from a pre-law program, has been running around town trying to find positions to start paying off his degree debts and to gain experience while also trying to study for the LEET exam to qualify for law school. All your friends and family being busy would be depressing to you on any normal day, this comes to your advantage today, for you donât want to be seen.Â
âIâm going to see a friend. Love you.â You say quickly to your parents. With how immersed they are in Full House, their marked TV Guide beside them, you could have said that you wanted to get a tattoo, and your parents would probably not bat an eye. Â
âOkay, be safe honey,â your mother says dismissively.
Leaving through the basement, you go to your car outside, unlocking the door. Obviously, youâre carrying your big tote bag so you could sneak in snacks; you even went shopping at the convenience store to prepare. Once youâre finished with the ten minute drive from your home to the movie theater, you look in both directions before entering the line in the lobby of the theater to get a ticket. Youâre going to pay in cash, not credit to make sure that this canât be traced back to you, and you pull out a large flopping hat that you have saved in your car, placing it on your head the second you step out of the car. Yes, you were being completely paranoid, but the last thing you want is someone recognizing you as you go into the movie theater or your parents looking at your credit card statement to see that you went to the movie theaters to view The Zygon Kingdom.Â
The time you spent waiting in line is filled with you looking around in all directions, making sure to avoid gazes of anyone that went to high school with or parents whose kids you babysat. Gossip travels fast, and you didnât feel like finding out how fast. This is a whole covert operation â you get in and you get out, hopefully with your reputation still intact.Â
âOne ticket to the new Zygon movie,â you say quietly. The woman sitting at the counter almost doesnât hear you because of how quiet you are or how loud the chatters are of high schoolers and adults coming to the movie theaters after a long week, but either way, she gives you your ticket.Â
âItâs in room B,â Youâve gone to this movie theater enough to know where everything is without needing a map or extra time to find your way around. Since you took into account Friday night traffic and the length of the line, you have about five minutes before the movie starts.Â
âThank you,â you say, smiling quickly. Keeping your head low, you move your neck around as if your head is a moving surveillance camera, still trying to make sure that no one you know is seeing you walk into room B, which has a huge blue and yellow poster of The Zygon Kingdom: A New World right next to the door. Once the coast is clear, you head into the dark movie room, finding row sixteen, in the middle.
âExcuse me, excuse me,â you whisper to people who you had to cross to get to your seat. The room is at half capacity; a few advertisements are playing on the screen, for now you have three minutes before the movie starts (but it will probably be longer since ads play for at least ten minutes after the movie is supposed to start to give people extra time). You find a spot in the middle row, which is where the majority of those few people are because you can get a good view of the screen and the audio would be loud but not too loud.Â
Pushing down the foldable seat, you sit down. Bringing your purse to your lap, you pull out a bag of chips from your bag, opening it before the movie so that no one gets annoyed at you for opening it so loud. You adjust your sitting position, letting your left leg cross over your right one, and in the dark room, you accidentally kick the seat in front of you. Itâs a loud sound, and you slightly grimace at the pain in your foot now. The person in front of you turns around, and you feel like you lost the air in your lungs.Â
âJeno?âÂ
âY/N?âÂ
-
After the movie incident, you and Jeno realize that you actually have more in common than you thought. Apparently, Jeno is in the same position as you when it comes to high school or local friends. Just graduated from college, his friends have found well-paying starting positions and internships, and except for a few people, heâs also been bored at home. Instead of finding a job immediately or stretching himself thin like Renjun, Jeno decided that it was best for him to take a break mentally after college, and then he would be on the job hunt. So now you two have been much more inclined to meet up.Â
This would have never happened a year ago. Sure, you would hang out with Jeno when Renjun invited you to hang out with them, and you would even have a good time, but by yourselves, you were a bit more than strangers. Now that doesnât seem so.Â
âI still canât believe that you like the Zygon Kingdom. Liking the Zygon Kingdom is so not you.â You say, grinning at Jeno. âI would never have pegged you as a fan,â You and Jeno are at an ice cream parlor, enjoying the shelter of this building better than the merciless afternoon sun outside. Lee Jeno, a college soccer star who gets all the girls liking a cheesy science fiction movie? Thatâs not something you learn every day. Picking at his chocolate ice cream, Jeno smiles at you too.Â
âI could say the same for you.â Taking a bite of your ice cream, you cross your legs under the table, a slightly pensive look on your face. Leaning forward, you put your elbows on the white table. âSo what else do I not know about you?â You ask.Â
âWell,â Jeno tilts his head. âI like to dip my pizza in honey.âÂ
âI know that,â you say. âBack when you and Renjun used to order pizza at the house, you would always ask me where the honey is.âÂ
âYou remember that?â Jeno asks, surprised. You shake your head, a disapproving frown on your face. âI only remember because youâre the only person in the history of humankind to dip your pizza in honey. Honestly, how do you even stomach that?âÂ
âThe same way you can eat that mint chocolate chip ice cream you have here,â he says, pointing to your cup. You gasp in mock offense, and he only continues. âThat stuff tastes like toothpaste.âÂ
âTo make up for what you just said, you have to tell me something that I actually donât know about you.â Jeno grunts and this, and you wait, tapping your foot against the tiles annoyingly.Â
âWhen I was a sophomore in high school, I went to one of Tenâs house parties,â he stops for a few seconds, and you look at him, your gaze willing for him to continue. âHe brought in eight kegs of beer from God knows where, and I had a few drinks.âÂ
âShut up!â You say, pushing Jenoâs shoulder from across the table. Youâre absolutely astonished. âYou, Lee Jeno, student council representative for your entire high school career, got drunk while going to Tenâs parties?â You only know Ten through his reputation, specifically his outrageous house parties that he throws whenever his parents are out of town that almost always end with the cops coming to shut it down. Theyâre always the highlight of your high school classâs weekend in your sleepy little town, where the mall or the park are the most interesting places to go. Youâve never been to one of Tenâs parties yourself since in high school, you were never much of a partier (and you didnât have the âcontactsâ to get invited anyway), but youâve heard that heâs the definition of a privileged rich kid with money to burn.Â
âYes, that was me.â he laughs. âAnd, it gets better.â You lean farther forward, your cheek propped up by your fist. âI was so drunk that I couldnât drive home, so I called Renjun at like midnight to pick me up. When I came into his car, it smelled like perfume, and he had lipstick all over his face. Yeri Kim was in the back of his car.âÂ
Your eyes widened. âNo way! Renjun told me he was studying for a history test!â You remember this day in-depth because it was the night of the freshman dance that you went to with your friends.Â
Jeno smiles at your astonished look before clearing his throat. âI told you something you didnât know about me and something you didnât know about Renjun, so you better tell me something good that I didnât know about you.âÂ
You sigh, tilting your head upwards. Pushing your tongue against your cheek, youâre deep in thought before you spring up in your chair again.
âRemember when you, me, and Mark would all volunteer at Taeyongâs animal shelter?â You ask. During your high school years, you were in desperate need of Honors Society hours to make you look better on your college applications, so you ended up signing up to take care of unadopted pets, either rescue or lost. Jeno, Renjun, and a few of his other friends had the same idea since it would be easy to carpool.Â
âYeah?â Jeno responds. Bringing your palm against your mouth, you shelter some giggles before Jeno has a curious look on his face.Â
âY/N? What is it?â You lick your lips before inhaling sharply.
âWhile getting in the parking lot with Renjun to get something from your car, do you remember getting hit by a bunch of water balloons?â Jeno squints for a few seconds as if trying to connect some invisible dots, and after a few moments, his eyes widen, his mouth in an âoâ shape.Â
âThat was you?â He says, astonished. âI blamed Chenle for that for an entire year!âÂ
âYup, it was me,â you say, giggling in between words.
âWhy did you do it?â He asks.Â
âIt was supposed to be for Renjun, but then you got in the way, and by that time, I already dropped the water balloons.â Jeno purses his lips, as if trying to picture you in the situation you described. This only leads you into another laughing fit.Â
âYou should have seen your face, I will never forget how hilarious you looked and how you were like âChenle if youâre working the dog walking on the ceiling, then Iâm gonna kill you!ââ You snicker, imitating Jenoâs voice by making it abnormally deep.Â
âI do not sound like that.âÂ
âI do not sound like that,â you imitate again. Jeno crosses his arms, a brow quirked.Â
âOkay, Iâll actually stop this time,â you say, giggling.Â
After a few moments, Jeno laughs with you. The prospect of no friends in town seemed unfounded today, for there is a friend for you that has been sitting under your nose this whole time.Â

Youâre sitting cross-legged on your bedroom floor as you organize your colorful array of CDs, different albums youâve collected through various birthday monies and Christmas gifts. Not only are there CDs, but your shelf is loaded with cassettes. By this point, no one used cassettes anymore, but it was the easiest way to record songs from the tape radio and have to listen. You would simply put the cassette in your tape radio and press the ârecordâ button when radio stations would have their two hours ad free music. A mini cassette of free music was perfect to put in Renjunâs old walkman as you took a jog around the neighborhood. You learned this method two years ago from your father, who used this way to get free music in the â80âs, but now, you have a huge collection of songs that have become a pain to oragnize. Youâre not exactly good at putting things back in their place, tending to grab your CDs and cassettes, use them, and then discard them on top of the little shelf you have.Â
Point is, this is an arduous task. This is why when you hear the phone ring in the living room, you run out to get it. Plus, if you didnât answer it now, it would be your task to clear out the answering machine at the end of the day. So, now you had one less message to listen and clear out.
When you hold the house phone to your ear, you only hear a monotonous dial tone, signalling that the person hung up. You feel a little suspicious, but think nothing of it; sometimes, neighborhood kids find it funny to dial random numbers and not answering when the person picks up â like virtual ding-dong-ditching.Â
But your suspicion proves right when you feel wetness on your head. On the floor of your living room is a deflated balloon, and in your hair, youâre pretty sure itâs water. Thereâs only one person you think could be behind this, and he slowly comes out from the space heâs hiding in your kitchen. He smirks as he shows you a small corded phone connected to the wall, shaped like a lip (probably Jenoâs sisterâs that he stole from her room). Before you can grab him in your kitchen, Jeno is running out onto the street.
âLee Jeno what the hell?â You screech to the boy running down the street. You donât bother to take your shoes, only closing the front door to prevent any animals coming into your house to take shelter from this hot weather. The heated pavement sings the soles of your feet as you run, but the feeling doesnât bother you: youâre on a hot (literally hot) pursuit of Lee Jeno, and in the distance, you can see him.Â
âDamn these short legs,â you mutter. You run and you run through the neighborhood. Lee Jeno has you taking sudden turns, trying to get you to break your tail on him, but itâs unsuccessful. Finally when youâre close enough, you spring forward onto Jenoâs back. He sways at the sudden weight, falling to the ground. Thankfully, youâre on grass, which is cooler to the pads of your feet and breaks Jenoâs fall.Â
âWhat was the meaning of this?â You ask, pointing to your dripping head.
âItâs a little something called payback.â He smirks.Â
âHey, thereâs a difference,â you start off, âMine was on accident. It was supposed to hit Renjun. Yourâs was on purpose.â You cross your arms, pouting.Â
âWell, then this was supposed to teach you not to be mean to your brother.âÂ
âSiblings in the same age group act like this all the time,â you say. You then put your index to your chin. âAt least if youâre like me and Renjun.â If Jeno pulled something like this on his older sister Jihyeon, who is six years older than him, he wouldnât survive to tell the tale.Â
The boy in front of you sucks in a big breath. âLetâs settle this once and for all then,â Jeno says. He comes closer, his body only a few inches from yours. âA game.â He smiles. âI have some water balloons at home. If you winââÂ
âYou have to give me 20,000 won.â You finish. Jeno raises his eyebrow. âThereâs a new Backstreet Boys album I want,â you say.Â
âAlright, fine,â Jeno says. âBut if you lose,â Jeno stops midway, trying to bite his lower lip in a way to shelter the huge smirk on his face. âYou have to clean my car.âÂ
âToo easy, all Iâll need is a hose,â you wave your hand.Â
âNot the outside.â Your eyes widen at this new development.Â
âYou meanâŚâÂ
âYup. The inside.â Youâve never been in Jenoâs car yourself since mostly when you would hang out with Jeno, it would be with Renjun, which means that youâre using Renjunâs car. But Renjun has told you, pretty infamously, that his car is messy and smells like a giant foot.
âThatâs cruel and unusual punishment!â You say. Letâs just say if Renjun thinks itâs smelly, itâs probably smelly. Renjun has been a teenage boy before, and many teenage boys are a species that usually cannot detect the lack of hygiene. Â
âThose are the parameters of the game,â Jeno says. âIf you resign now, thatâs considered a loss, which means you have to clean my car anyway.âÂ
You flatten your lips. Damn, youâre in a deadlock now.Â
âFine. Game on.âÂ
-
Lee Jeno destroyed you. But honestly, what else did you expect? Lee Jeno, who has played soccer his whole life and has had plenty of experience with strategy and planning, completely and utterly destroyed you. It wasnât the smartest idea to go guns-blazing with water balloons at Jeno, but you didnât have many other choices. Your long-distance aim and contact skills werenât that good, for you never played âsports,â sports as in competitive sports since you only danced for a couple of years. You did use your surroundings well, hiding behind trees and bushes so you can stalk your way to Jeno, but that only did so much.
So now you are wearing an old T-Shirt and some jeans shorts, opening the front door and performing the âwalk of shameâ as you walk to Jenoâs house, where boxes of unopened trash bags, air freshener, sponges, and soapy water sit.Â
Jeno is only a few feet away from the cleaning materials he left out, sitting on a beach chair.
âY/N,â Jeno says, waving to you in a friendly way. âThank God youâre here. I was worried you might happen to forget about the deal. I really need you right now,â Jeno chuckles, âbecause my mom wanted me to clean my car last week. She said that if I donât clean my car by tonight, then sheâs really gonna give it to me.âÂ
âGood,â you say, laughing a bit to yourself. âSomebodyâs gotta tell you. Back in high school, I was afraid to get in this car, or else I would never be the same again.âÂ
Scrunching your nose, you peek your head inside Jenoâs car. Itâs an old 1984 Nissan 300zx, most likely used because if his parents are anything like your parents (which not so surprisingly, growing up around each other, they are), they would never give their teenage sons brand new cars. The people in your neighborhood certainly arenât tearing at the seams with money.Â
Gulping harshly, you decide to throw whatever junk you find in the car away. You pulled out wrappers, chip bags, old water bottles, and random coins that you pocketed (Jeno let you since even he knows how bad cleaning his car is â which is why he held off on it for so long). Jeno kept you good company, and you found yourself chitchatting with him as you organized every piece of junk in his car in a trash bag.
âAre you liking college so far?â Jeno asks broadly when chatter between you both slowly dies. No response.
âWhatâs wrong?â Jeno asks. He knows heâs right to think that when it takes you a few minutes to respond, a few moments for your gaze to focus on him.
âCollege hasnât been that fun,â you confess to Jeno, the words falling out of your mouth faster than it should. âI havenât made a lot of friends despite finishing my sophomore year, and my roommate is a pain. Her entire side of the room is so messy and acts like Iâm unreasonable. Itâs a small space anyway, she should keep it clean!â You huff, scrubbing the cloth seats in Jenoâs car harder. It felt as though a huge weight has been lifted off of your shoulders.
You were surprised that you confessed this to Jeno of all people. When you told Renjun this freshman year, he advised that it would get better after the first semester, and your parents said the same thing, but nothing really changed. Youâre going to university on a significant scholarship, and you didnât want to give that up if you decided to transfer somewhere closer to home, closer to your support network of familiar places and people. Ever since then, you didnât tell anyone how miserable you were in college.
âCan I make a confession?â Jeno asks suddenly. You were worried that you were being way too personal after Jeno didnât say anything for a while; after all, Jeno is your brotherâs friend and not yours. Â
âShoot,â you say.Â
âI didnât have many friends in college either. Why do you think I always hang out with Renjun every summer?â Youâre piling all the trashbags together near the edge of the Lee property for the trash truck to come later today, but hearing this is enough for you to turn around and look at the raven-haired boy quizically.Â
âI donât believe that,â you scoff. âYou have teammates and a hundred girls who would tattoo your name on their chests immediately.âÂ
âTheyâre just teammates and girls. I got along with my teammates, but I donât talk to them on a regular basis after graduating college.â Jeno sighs. âAnd the girls who liked me in college liked me because I was ripped. None of them really wanted to know me personally.â
The silence between you both is deafening. You purse your lips, sympathy in your voice. âI had no idea.â
âMost people donât,â Jeno says. âI try not to tell everyone this,â he says, a slight humorous lilt in his voice.Â
âThose girls missed out,â you say, a soft smile on your face. âYouâre hilarious and great to be around.âÂ
âIt seems like I have that effect on the members of the Huang family,â Jeno smiles, any sign of melancholy gone from his face.Â
âSay,â you start off, bending down to reach the mat on the car floor. âif I find something I think is of value in this car, then can I keep it?âÂ
Jeno nods. âSure, I guess. I canât imagine what could be of value.âÂ
âNow Iâm 20,000 won richer,âÂ
Jenoâs back instantly becomes more rigid as he sees you wave a few crumpled bills in the air, almost unrecognizable due to the amount of dust and grime accumulated on it. A couple of coins here and there were tolerable for him to let you keep, but 20,000 won is a lot for loose change in the car. âI tend to find 20,000 won very valuable,â you smile.Â
Jeno curses under his breath. âTouche.âÂ
âI guess we both won.â You shrug your shoulders, âYouâre gonna have a clean car for your mom, and I have enough money to buy that Backstreet Boys album.âÂ

Just the other day, you ran into Taeyong, the owner of the pet shelter you used to volunteer at. You were at the supermarket, picking up some groceries for your parents when you saw the man carefully weighing a bag of Roma tomatoes. Although he is almost five years older than you, it certainly doesnât seem that way with how youthful his face looked, and when he noticed you putting bananas in your shopping cart, he was glad to see you. You both engaged in pleasant conversation about your lives since you volunteered at his pet shelter, and he mentioned to you that he was short of hands. Recently, a full-time employee quit, and he needed people more than ever. He offered you a job on the spot, and you gladly took it â you needed something to do this summer anyway, and your parents were starting to get a little restless with how much you were at home, revolving your life around TV Guide.Â
You had been working for a few days at the store and got to know the two other employees, one of which is Doyoung, who you already knew from your time volunteering at this shelter, and Sungchan, a boy around Jenoâs age who had been working for a year. Compared to the last time you saw this shelter as a senior in high school, not much has changed. The only thing that was different was that the walls were recently wallpapered.Â
Taeyong greeted you when you walked in, and you already started following a routine you set up for yourself; the good thing about hiring you was that he didnât have to teach you much since as a volunteer, you would feed and wash animals a couple of hours a week, which as an employee, that was the same thing on a fuller time basis. In the mornings, you liked to start off walking dogs in the dog walking area on the roof before the sun would shine mercilessly in the afternoon. Carrying a light brown golden retriever puppy named Dasom, you head down the roof stairs back to the lobby, where Jeno is sitting on a hard, metal chair.Â
âJeno?â You ask. âWhat are you doing here?â You donât ever remember telling him that you would be here.Â
Jeno smiles at you. âYour mom told me I could find you here. And some other guy said you were walking a dog, so he told me to wait here.â
You nod. He must not have meant Doyoung since he would already know him from his time at the pet shelter in high school. âSo you must have met Sungchan.â
Jeno shrugs his shoulders. âYeah, I guess. He said he was going to wash some of the new arrivals.â While speaking, Jenoâs lips curled into a small smile. âRemember when we used to do that?â
âGod,â you say, shaking your head. âThat was one of the worst jobs.â You said. If there was anything that dogs and cats hated was being in water. New arrivals, especially strays, havenât been introduced to clean water in a long time and can get especially rowdy since they are also untrained.Â
âThere was one dog that me, Renjun, and Chenle had to wash, and letâs just say that it looked like we took a bath too!â At this, you both laugh.
You lick your lips, looking at Jeno, good humor in your eyes. âI almost feel bad leaving Sungchan all by himself.â Crossing your arms and leaning your back against the wall, you look at Jeno, your head cocked.
âSo what are you really doing here?âÂ
Jeno looks fondly in the distance. âI think Bongshik needs a new playmate,â you smile at Jeno. For as long as you can remember, Jeno has always been a cat person, and after much convincing, his parents agreed to get him a cat seven years ago. They initially were only getting Jeno the cat to help teach him responsibility, because as a teenage boy, he had none, but slowly, Bongshik grew on them too. Ever since, the Lee familyâs soft spot has been Bongshik.
âDo your parents know?â You ask.Â
Jeno smiles. âThey were the ones who suggested the idea.â As Bongshik grew older, his energy hasnât quelled, and for the lack of neighborhood cats, he follows the Lee family around everywhere in the house.Â
âWhat breed?â you ask.Â
âMaybe a Bengal. Iâve heard that they are energetic.âÂ
âI think there are some Bengals. Letâs check the back.â You both go into the room adjoining the lobby, where the rescue and stray animals were stored. After a long night with Doyoung yesterday, the cages were cleaned, and all the animals looked happy that it was clean. You both are greeted with excited barks from the dog section of the room, and finally, you approach the cats in another room. Cats of various breeds occupied the segregated space, from Shorthairs to Bobtailed cats. Black, white, gray, and tabbies are all present, and they look at you and Jeno quizically.Â
Jeno also observes the felines intently. âActually, Bongshik is full of energy, so maybe a bit of a quieter playmate to contrast,â Jeno taps his chin, thinking to himself. Some cats wave their tails at Jeno as if wanting his attention while some other cat mothers wrap their tails around their young, protecting them. There are two cats that seem to take his attention, two cats that are sitting together. They donât appear to have any sort of genetic or familial relationship, for one cat is white with a few specks of black around the ears while the other is a gray tabby with a white chest; they both appear to be Shorthair crossbreeds, though.Â
âCan I hold that one?â Jeno says, pointing to the white one with the few black specks. You open the cage with the master key that you have in your pocket, and carefully, you take the cat out of the cage. Jeno has his arms open, so when you place the cat in his arms, he cradles the animal, the most adoring look on his face. The other cat seems to be annoyed and meows a lot, its gaze on the white cat, and the white cat starts meowing back.Â
You and Jeno both melt on sight.Â
âSo cute,â Jeno murmurs, putting the tip of his nose on the crown of the white catâs head. This cat does not seem to be bothered that itâs being held by Jeno (when most cats take some time getting used to a new human). It is as if they were both destined to meet. This cat does turn to face his companion still in the cage once in a while, still meowing.
âI think this oneâs more concerned that its friend is not being held,â you jest. You stand on your tiptoes to grab the other, carefully cradling the tabby in your arms. It starts meowing for its companion, and you face Jeno.Â
âThis oneâs also so cute,â Jeno says longingly. He comes closer to you, bending a little, his face close to the tabby that youâre holding. His smile is wide, his eyes shaped like crescents. Carefully, he holds the white cat with one cradled arm, and with the other, he uses his index and middle finger to pet the other cat. The tabby meows happily.Â
As Jeno tries to stand upright again, his head almost bumps your face, but he stops before that, carefully meeting your gaze. For what feels like an eternity, you both stare. Jenoâs eyes are like brown pools, and you notice every detail on his face; how dark and pronounced his eyebrows are compared to his suntanned skin, how pretty his nose looks against his face, the fringe on his forehead that is so close to giving a lovetap to his eyes, how shapely his chin is, a small, stray mustache hair kissing his upper lipâŚÂ
His lips. Pursed slightly as he drinks in the sight of the little details of your face as well. They look a little chapped âÂ
âThere you are Y/N! Is that you Jeno?â A familiar voice rings across the large room, and you notice it to be Doyoung. His gaze is focused on you both. You and Jeno immediately stop gazing at each other, as if Doyoung flipped a switch, and you both focus your attention on the raven-haired employee, his hair wet from a fresh shower. He usually comes to work at eleven or noon since he is not a morning person.Â
âYeah, itâs me,â Jeno says, waving before repositioning his other hand to hold the white cat in his arms.
âLong time no see,â Doyoung remarks. âHowâs college?â He asks.Â
âGraduated in the spring,â Jeno says. âIâm back with my parents now.â He says.
âOh,â Doyoung says, nodding awkwardly. âWell, if you want a job, the door is always open here. Trust me, we need the help,â Doyoung says.Â
âThanks,â Jeno says, smiling courteously at Doyoung. âIâm actually here to look for another cat. Maybe two,â Jeno looks at you, an eyebrow raised in anticipation. Suddenly, he sneezes.Â
âJeno,â you chastise. âWhat about your cat allergy?â You suddenly remember. Jeno learned affirmatively after adopting Bongshik that he had a cat allergy, and his sister and parents tried to convince him to give Bongshik back to the shelter, but Jeno vehemently refused. After almost a month of bonding with the feline, he didnât have the heart to give Bongshik back. Instead, he went to the drug store and got some anti-histamines to suppress his allergies and eventually got more personalized medicine from his doctor. At first, his doctor said the best (and cheapest) course of action would be to return Bongshik, but Jeno just took the prescription and has since then been refilling his prescription on a regular basis.Â
âWhat cat allergy?â Jeno asks, but he sneezes a few times. Cocking your head at the raven-haired boy, you snort.
âThat cat allergy?â You say, leaning all your weight on one leg.
âItâs nothing,â Jeno says dismissively. âIâll ask my doctor. Iâll probably just have to up my dose.â
It was Doyoungâs turn to snort. âCan you really be around three cats every day?â He asks. âThe only reason your allergy didnât get out of control while you were volunteering here was because I kept you with the reptiles.â You nod in agreement. The reptiles were kept in another room on the far side of this shelter, far away from all the cat hair floating around in this room. Jeno, though, still used to sneak a few minutes with the cats.Â
âI can be around three cats!â Jeno says defensively. By this time, the white cat is rubbing itself against Jenoâs T-shirt.Â
Feeling this, Jenoâs gaze softens, and he smiles at the kitten, whose brown eyes Jeno looks in to. âI am going to name you Seoli,â Jeno says in a soft tone and gazes at the cat in your arms. âAnd Iâm going to name you Nali.â Â
âDid your parents agree to two new cats?â
âWell,â Jeno trails off, shrugging his shoulders.
âLee Jeno!â You say.Â
âMy parents grew to like Bongshik. Theyâll grow to like Seoli and Nali.â Jeno reasons.Â
You roll your eyes. Lee Jeno is the only person in the whole world you know who has a cat allergy and still wants three cats. âLee Jeno, youâre crazy, you know that?âÂ
-
Seoli and Nali instantly got along with Bongshik. The three of them would sleep together, eat together, and roam the house together, only being apart momentarily. Like Jeno predicted, his parents grew to like the addition of Seoli and Nali to the family.Â
Hearing about the new cats from you, Renjun would visit Jeno, and you would come along with them and play with all three cats. Renjun started joking that you two started being best friends without him and that you were leaving him in the dust.Â
Renjun started a new job as a paralegal and became busier than ever; he was working to save enough money to live in an apartment closer to the law firm he worked at, which is forty-five minutes away from your house. The commute itself was tiring and he was working extra hard to get along with his coworkers, going to events, and establishing contacts.
Like many weekends, this weekend Renjun was hanging out with a few coworkers at a party at one of their houses, and normally, you didnât mind this, only joking to him that he only came home to eat and sleep.Â
In mid-July, without fail, you and Renjun would always go to the beach, ever since he was old enough to drive; it was valuable âsibling timeâ that your parents supported and even suggested; as teenagers, you didnât always get along, and your parents wanted you both to establish a close relationship because sibling relationships were the only life-long relationships.
This weekend, Renjun was busy, and for the next few weekends, he would be catching up with old friends and would even go on a few dates, for his dating life was pretty sparse with how busy college was. You were hoping that Renjun could blow someone off and come with you and not break the tradition, but your hopes did nothing to change reality after Renjun told you about his plans and apologized that he wouldnât be able to come to the beach with you.
So you decided, if you canât bring your brother to the beach, bring your brotherâs best friend.Â
At 7 AM on a Saturday, you knock on Jenoâs door, a few doors from your house, dressed in a casual T-Shirt and jeans shorts. Youâre ready to go, without a doubt in your mind that Jeno wonât come.Â
Jeno answers the door, rubbing his eyes. From the looks of the dark house, Jenoâs parents arenât awake. As a means to hold himself up, Jeno leans against the door. Heâs dressed in long pajama bottoms and a black T-shirt (that is littered with Seoliâs white cat hair). The white, spotted cat follows Jeno to the door, sitting a few feet away from the living room couch.Â
âY/N? What are you doing here?â He asks, his voice heavy with drowsiness.Â
âWeâre going to the beach, obviously,â you say matter-of-fact, in a voice that Jeno didnât look like he wanted to argue with. He knew that you were hurting because Renjun couldnât come with you to the beach any time soon, so he was ready to be called to go to the beach.Â
âRight now?âÂ
âYes right now. Donât you remember that Renjun and I would leave early in the morning to get a head start to the beach?â The closest beach to your house is two hours away, and being landlocked during the college semester makes you restless for the yearly summer beach trip as well.Â
âYeah I know butââÂ
âNo âbuts,ââ you interrupt. âIf we leave now, then we get the whole day at the beach. Be ready in thirty minutes.âÂ
Jeno acknowledges with a sleepy grunt before closing the door, and you head back to your house to eat breakfast. If you left hungry, then you would be tempted to stop along the way for snacks, making the drive longer. So you ate a hearty bowl of oatmeal, a banana, and drank a glass of water before seeing Jeno standing at your door twenty-five minutes later with one of his sisterâs peach-colored tote bags hanging on his shoulder, in casual shorts and a T-shirt, and a navy colored cap covering his black hair. You already had your things ready in a bag next to the dining room table, and you carry your bag and exit out the front door, saying a quick goodbye to your parents.Â
Out on the porch, you jog across the driveway to Jeno, and your parents wave to him. âHave fun guys,â they chorus, smiling. You roll your eyes.Â
âItâs like theyâre leaving us on a playdate,â you say, and Jeno smiles, the tiredness in his eyes long gone.Â
âWant to ride in my car? After all, itâs clean now,â Jeno says. You sigh, but itâs not exasperated or tired.Â
âI should know,â you say.Â
Jenoâs Nissan sits in its usual place on the driveway, and Jeno takes his keys from his pocket, unlocking the car. As you both load your bags onto the back seat, you breathe in the air. âMinty fresh,â you smile, looking at the tree-shaped car freshener hanging on the rearview mirror. âYou better keep this car clean because I am not cleaning it again,â you threaten, pointing your finger accusingly.Â
âI pinky promise,â Jeno says, he extends his hand, his pinky out, and you grasp it with your pinky, pinkies locking as well as your gazes. Â
Jenoâs hands are way softer than you expected.
The pinky promise lasts way longer than you expected, with you quickly pulling away and getting into the front passenger seat of the car. Jeno hops in the driverâs seat, and the car starts.Â
Jenoâs driving is smooth, and through the window, you admire the scenery. You pull out of your neighborhood, driving on local roads for a good few minutes, and you admire the beautiful scenery of houses, shrubs, and picket fences before getting on the highway. Now, cars are zooming past you both, of all sorts of shapes and colors, minivans to sport cars, black, white, gray, and silver.Â
âTurn on some music,â Jeno prompts. Itâs easy to get distracted on the road, not by external forces such as a random bird flying by, but from the lull of the car when driving on the highway â when driving on the highway, the roads look the same, a cause for boredom and tiredness. The steady humming of Jenoâs car is particularly relaxing on this early morning.Â
âI thought you would never ask,â you say, in a voice that sounds mischievous. You twist your body to reach the back of the car, and you reach into your bag, fishing for something. When you pull it out, Jeno rolls his eyes.Â
âSeriously?â Jeno groans.Â
âWhat? You said you wanted music,â you say defensively.Â
âI didnât mean the Backstreet Boys.â
You donât listen to him and instead press the âCD mediaâ button on the front dashboard and insert your CD. The music is catchy, and you hum along to the songs that youâve loved, namely âIâll never break your heartâ and âEverybody.â
âIâll never understand girls. I mean, whatâs the appeal of boybands anyway?â Jeno says after some time.Â
âItâs the group dynamic, the interactions, the teamwork, and the songs are catchy as ââ you stop yourself, cocking your head at Jeno. âAre you nodding along?âÂ
âN-No,â Jeno stutters, purposely keeping his gaze fixed on the road so he doesnât have to face you.Â
âAdmit it,â you say, a smug look on your face. âYou like it.âÂ
âNo, I donâtâ Jeno argues.Â
âYes, you do,â you argue back.Â
âNo I donât,â Jeno repeats.Â
You snort at this. âLook at us, we sound like two five-year-olds.âÂ
âI think,â Jeno says with a joking lilt, âthat we sound like an old married couple.âÂ
âThat too.â You look at the boy, an eyebrow arched.
After a few moments of silence, Jeno changes the topic. âIâm hungry,â he says. âLetâs get some instant ramen.âÂ
âWhereâs the microwave, genius?â
Jeno pouts. âFast food?âÂ
âWeâre gonna be there in like fifteen minutes. I have some snacks in my bag.â Once again, you reach for the back of the car, fishing inside the tote bag for a bag of Cheetos.
âHere,â you say, holding the bag towards him.
âIâm driving, genius,â he says, emphasizing the last part in a mocking tone. You roll your eyes.Â
âI guess youâre gonna have to feed me,â Jeno says.
âSeriously?â You groan.Â
âYes. If I could open the bag with my eyes and feed the Cheetos with some mad telekinesis, then I would.âÂ
âWell, you would have to keep your eyes on the road, so you still couldnât do that either.â Jeno grunts at your response, and you silently feel a small victory winning this conversation.
You open the bag and take a Cheeto in your left hand. Jeno opens his mouth, and you place the piece in his mouth. He crunches on it, and when you see his Adamâs apple move as he swallows the snack, you reach in and grab another piece. On and on this pattern goes until there are no Cheetos left in the bag, and at the final time you drop a piece of the snack in his mouth, he playfully clamps down on your fingers.Â
âJeno!â You exclaim.Â
Jeno has a youthful, playful look on his face. âThatâs what you get for forcing me to listen to this crap.âÂ
âYou like it too!âÂ
Jeno rolls his eyes. âHere we go again.âÂ
-
The rest of the car ride is filled with laughs, as though you were supposed to bring Jeno along to the beach this year instead of Renjun. The beach is filled with people wanting to soak up some sun, children playing games, and surfers swimming in the water. Luckily, thereâs enough beach for everyone; the sands on this beach are well-maintained, and they go on for miles.
Suddenly, you grab the boyâs wrist, and Jeno looks surprised, a cute doe-like expression on his face (Jeno has the most beautiful, expressive eyes).Â
âCome on,â you say, a wide smile on your face. âIâll show you a nice spot.âÂ
Together, the two of you are lugging your tote bags across the beach, careful not to step on anyone being buried in sand or children playing games or other people sunbathing. Itâs like the sand wants to absorb your feet, which is why your steps are labored, along with the load you are carrying.
The spot you take Jeno is more secluded, with sparse surfers coming about here and there. Itâs next to a jagged, gray peak, perfect for divers. The small pieces of eroding rocks falling to the water make it less kid-friendly, but itâs still a good spot if you want to relax and get away from the noise. Right here is where you decide to set up, a few yards from the shore where the cold seawater canât touch you.Â
Carefully, you unpack your tote bag, set up your beach towel, and place a book on the sand. The beach was always a way for you and Renjun to relax together, talk about updates in your lives, and strengthen your relationship. But sometimes you both liked to sit in silence, enjoying each otherâs company while enjoying the words of an author, the introverts you both are.
Before sitting down, you also take off your T-shirt and shorts, revealing a navy, strappy bikini underneath. Picking up your book, you open it to the first page and sit down. Next to you, Jeno takes off his shirt, revealing toned abs. (What did you expect? He plays soccer). You donât want to admit that your attention on your book is long gone.Â
When Jeno catches you staring, an immediate flare of heat hits your face, and you quickly try to bring your attention back to your book, starting at the first sentence. Youâre unable to keep focus anymore, just re-reading the same sentence at least five times because your brain is too distracted to understand the sentence.Â
âYou donât have to look away,â Jeno teases. âEvery girl wants a look at Jenabs.âÂ
âThatâs what youâre calling it? Jenabs?âÂ
âYes. Is there a problem?â Jeno asks.Â
âObviously. It sounds so self-centered,â you huff.Â
âYouâre just lashing out because I caught you red-handed.âÂ
âMaybe youâll get a red hand to your pretty face,â you challenge, a humorous look in your eyes.Â
âAh,â Jeno says thoughtfully. âYou think Iâm pretty?âÂ
Another hot flare hits your cheeks, with the heat of a thousand suns. âNo,â you say.Â
âYes,â Jeno counters.Â
âNo,â you repeat, this time more confident. By this time, you both are gazing at each other intently in silence, until suddenly, you start laughing. Jeno does too. It was one of those times when the moment seemed so serious, but the argument was just so silly.
âJust admit that you think Iâm attractive,â Jeno says simply.Â
âEvery girl with a pulse thinks youâre hotter than a sidewalk in August.â You deadpan.Â
âI donât care what they think,â Jeno says suddenly. You quirk an eyebrow at this statement. Quickly, Jeno recovers himself. âI care about what you think.â He smiles. âYouâre the only person Iâve known that hasnât ever brought up my looks.âÂ
âWhy should I?â You shrug your shoulders. âYou know youâre hot.â At this you and Jeno laugh again together, but after a few moments, Jeno stops laughing.Â
âSo you admit it?â Jeno asks curiously.Â
âYes, I do.â You say sighing, hating that youâre giving him this victory. âLee Jeno, youâre one of the most attractive men Iâve seen in my whole life,â you vow. âNow, can I get back to my book?â You ask.Â
âFine.â Jeno obliges. He sits down on his towel laid out beside yours, lying down on his back as you read your book. His gaze changes from the oceanâs waves licking the sandy shores to the side of your face. Youâre maybe a chapter in when Jeno interrupts your train of thought.Â
âAre you really gonna be reading the whole time?â Jeno whines. âI didnât bring anything to do because I thought we were gonna go in the water.âÂ
âTh-The water?â You ask. You look at Jeno as if he grew a second head.Â
âYes, water. Weâre at the beach per your request. Remember?â Jeno says slowly.Â
âYeah, but I didnât thinkââÂ
âYou didnât think about swimming at the beach?â Jeno asks incredulously.Â
âNo,â you respond, your voice small.Â
âYouâre literally wearing a swimsuit,â Jeno points out.Â
âYeah, but thatâs just to get a good tan,â you say. Now that you say it out loud, it does sound kind of ridiculous that you didnât even make plans about getting in the water today. âAnd plus,â you say a bit awkwardly. âI donât really know how to swim.âÂ
It seems as though Jenoâs eyes are about to bulge out of his face. âYouâve been coming to this beach for years, and you donât know how to swim?â
âI never really learned how. I mean, I did, but I wasnât very good, and Iâm super out of practice. I usually just come here to read or admire the scenery â Jeno!â You exclaim. Jeno snatches the book out of your hand and places it on the towel. Heâs strong enough to hoist you up, and youâre left with no choice but to jog along with him to the edge of the shore, kicking up mounds of sand; you have a stinking suspicion about what heâs going to do.Â
âTodayâs the day Iâm gonna teach you how to swim.â He says.
âB-But,â you stutter, struggling for words. Jeno doesnât look like heâll take no for an answer.Â
âI promise I wonât let go of you, and we wonât go far from the shore.â He says, his gaze sincere. âLetâs start off with floating. Spread your arms out and kick your feet up. Act as though you want to lie down on the water like itâs sand. Like this.â Jeno demonstrates, going slightly away from the shore and deeper in the water, leaving you knee-deep, standing on the wet sand underfoot. Once Jeno has floated for a few seconds, he positions himself upright, everything except his neck and face submerged in water as he swims towards you, walking the last few steps to you.Â
âNow you try.â You look a little nervous but follow what Jeno says. You kick your feet up and try to treat the water like itâs the sand you rest your towel against; Jenoâs hand is on the small of your back as he holds you up. Youâre not used to the feeling of water in your ears, and youâre struggling to stay afloat as you accidentally breathe in water. Hearing you cough, Jeno sets you upright, and you cough up the salty water.Â
âI donât like,â you say between coughs. âThe water in my ears. It keeps going in.â
âTrust me when I say that when you donât want water to go in your ears and nose, it doesnât. When you are thinking about water going into your ears and nose, it does. Now, letâs try again.âÂ
âNo,â you whine. âI donât like swimming.âÂ
âPlease?â Jeno asks. âFor me? After all, you did drag me out here so early.â
âFine.â You relent.Â
âLike I said,â Jeno chides, âKick up your feet and lie on the water like itâs sand. Donât struggle too much right now. Unless you donât think about the water around your ears and nose, it wonât go in.â
You repeat what you did earlier, kicking up your feet and lying on the water like itâs sand. This time you donât move a muscle. You let the gentle low-tide waves of the water kiss your skin and wash over you again before itâs exposed to the refreshingly cool ocean breeze again. Jenoâs hand is against the small of your back as he leads you to deeper waters.Â
âWhat are you doing?â You ask.Â
âFloating is all the same. If you can float in knee-deep water, you can float in deeper water.â Jeno looks into your eyes. âDonât worry, I still wonât let go.âÂ
You donât struggle against the water, and when youâre in the deeper water, Jeno helps bring you upright on the water. This time, your feet are unable to touch the ocean floor, and before the panic can settle in your eyes, Jeno is holding your waist.Â
âUpright floating works the same way. Donât struggle. Hold your head up high.â You follow as Jeno says and observes how he does it. Jeno slowly takes his hands away from your waist and holds your arm instead. Slowly, he lets go, and here you are in front of him, swimming; youâre pretty amazed too.Â
âOh my God, Iâm doing it!â You say excitedly. Jeno shares your excitement.Â
âI know. To think you wanted to give up,â Jeno shakes his head.Â
Your bodies are close, so close that you can feel Jenoâs breath on your nose. Jeno looks almost angelic with the way the salty water glistens against his face as if his skin is made of diamonds. His jet-black hair is stuck to his forehead, and your hair is in thick, salty strands, but the moment still feels perfect; the shouting of children in the distance doesnât bother either of you.
You almost want to kiâÂ
Suddenly, youâre taken out of your thoughts when a splash of cold water hits your face. Jeno has already swum a few feet away, the culprit of the cold splash on your face.Â
âTag! Youâre it!â He says in between giggles.
âJeno!â You exclaim, trying your best to swim and splash him.Â
Heâs the most handsome, adorable dork youâve ever had the pleasure of knowing.Â

Every summer, city council organized a summer concert series held at the local park. They mostly featured student bands, cover bands, and lots of vendors. But most importantly: they were free.Â
The one happening tonight was the last one of this yearâs series, and there would be fireworks. You hadnât been able to attend the last few summer concerts because of your growing responsibilities at the pet shelter; you were becoming pet manager, a position where you would inventory what animals were available to adopt, and the numbers were changing every day. Also, Doyoung had gone on vacation along with many of the volunteers, so you, Taeyong, and Sungchan were left to cover for them.Â
Tonight though, you were given the day off, so you decided to see if Jeno was free to go to the concert with you.
You tell your mother your intentions, and when youâre done talking, she gives you a sly look.Â
âYouâve been hanging out with Jeno a lot recently. Is there something I should know about?â She asked. She doesnât ask this in a condescending, strict-parent tone, but of one as a friend. For the most part, your mother was always the woman you came clean to and got advice from; there were truely only minal secrets you kept from her.Â
âYeah Y/N, is there something we should know about?â Renjun asks.Â
Renjun. For a while, you had completely forgotten about him. He had started getting suspicious recently that you were harboring feelings for his long-time best friend. After the beach trip, he started getting suspicious, but he had been too busy to do anything about it, only sulking in the corner thinking about it.
You had to admit that you had a little crush on Jeno, in that every time you thought about him, your heart started racing in an exhilarating way. Maybe when Renjun was around, you werenât as slick as you thought you were. âNo,â you say, a little quieter than you meant for it to be. You clear your throat, making your voice louder. âNothingâs going on. Jenoâs always available to hang out, which is why Iâm hanging out with him.âÂ
Your mother doesnât say anything, knowing Renjun is in the room. Most likely, Renjun was worried that if you and Jeno got into a relationship, it would mess up the long-time friendship they had, and if you broke up, it would be even worse. You understood his sentiment, but itâs not like Jeno likes you backâŚÂ
Right?
The way he looked at you, the way that when you talked, he was fully attentive, his soft, expressive eyes reacting, listening to every word you say.
Thatâs just because you guys have become good friends, right?Â
(A part of you wishes that it isnât).Â
Youâre wearing your standard summer uniform of daisy dukes and a T-shirt when you walk up to Jenoâs house and the door opens before you knock. Jeno is standing at the entrance of his house, already dressed in shorts and a sleeveless shirt, showing off his strong arms.Â
âJeno,â you say. âDo you want to go to the summer concert together?â You ask.Â
âActually,â Jeno says shyly. âI was gonna ask you the same thing.âÂ
âGreat.â Jeno invites you in and asks if you want anything. You said you would just have some water. He pours you a glass before heading to his room to grab a towel and some bug spray. Stepping outside, you both spray yourselves, and when he goes back inside to put the bug spray away, he tells his parents that heâs going to be out and will be back before ten.Â
The park is a short drive from your neighborhood, and it is just as scenic as you remembered it to be. Itâs about sixty-something acres filled with walking trails that loop around your city, which city council has tried hard to have more âgreenâ city planning, rather than letting this place become a concrete jungle.Â
In this park, there is lots of green space for people to lay their towels across the grass and enjoy the music. Most of the people here are young parents with budding families, in which a family-friendly free concert with a packed picnic and fireworks is the perfect summer activity. There are also older people like you and Jeno, showing up to the concert today because they were bored. The beginning of August signaled to high schoolers the start of school, and to college people that they would be moving back to their dorms soon. Either way, the park is packed. Tonight isnât as hot and stuffy as most nights, which also accounts for why there are so many people here tonight.Â
âWhatâs the theme for this concert?â You ask Jeno when you hop out of his car.Â
ââ70âs American rock,â he says.
âFun,â you say. You werenât an avid rocker, but you turn on the oldies radio station, you didnât mind listening to a few rock songs. âItâs better than working at the pet shelter every single night.â Jeno laughs. You loved your job more than anything, but you wanted a semblance of work-life balance.Â
âNow Iâm glad I didnât take up Doyoungâs offer immediately,â Jeno says.Â
âIt isnât usually this bad,â you say. âItâs just that Taeyong and many volunteers are on vacation, and Iâm being given more responsibilities.âÂ
âMaybe I could come in and volunteer just to help you out,â Jeno says wistfully. âIâll have to find time in my schedule,â he jokes.Â
You raise a brow at the boy. âIn your schedule of doing nothing?â You snort.Â
âItâs not nothing,â Jeno counters. âIâm just relaxing before finding a job. Jobs are going to be there after I take a little break from college,â he says. Renjun wouldnât ever be caught saying something like this. For him, itâs always one thing onto the next. Renjun is a restless man, and taking a break without a job would drive him crazy.Â
While Renjun is ridiculously Type A, Jeno is the opposite. Heâs used to opportunities coming to him, believing that everything has a way of working out in the end. Itâs crazy how the two have managed to be friends with such vastly different outlooks on life.Â
You drop the topic, opting to lay out the towel that Jeno brought. Thereâs enough space for both of you to fit⌠but tightly. Even though youâre wearing bug spray, the sharp, freshly cut grass makes your skin feel itchy.Â
âI guess weâre gonna have to sit like this,â you say a little awkwardly. Jeno turns to face you, his face only inches from yours; your arms brush Jenoâs biceps, and you feel your throat become dry.Â
âYeah,â he says softly. No witty reply.Â
The silence between you is broken by the cheers of the audience. The performers are here.Â
âWhatâs up Neo City?â The head performer asks the audience. Heâs a man in his mid to late twenties, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. Cheers are the response, filling the air.Â
âWeâre Neo Culture Tech, and today weâre going to be performing some covers to end Neo Cityâs 1997 Summer Concert Series! We hope you enjoy the performance!â The man stops talking, and the park erupts with cheers.
The first note is played on the piano, followed by the addition of drums and electric guitar. The songs go on one by one, and Neo Culture Tech plays popular songs by the Eagles, ACDC, Fleetwood Mac, and Def Leopard. Parents are dancing with smaller children, singing along to the songs they listened to in grade school, while younger people sit on their towel and jam out to the songs less physically.Â
You and Jeno are bobbing your heads together to the music, stealing glances at one another. Jeno was able to sing along a little to âShoot to Thrillâ and âGold Dust Woman,â while you were able to sing along to âWitchy Womanâ and âHotel Californiaâ after memorizing the lyrics so long ago. As the guy who was playing the guitar played the guitar solos for âHotel California,â people cheered.Â
âBefore we start the fireworks show, Iâd like to end off with a banger. Everyone stand up and find a partner to dance with!â the lead singer said. With that, the band started the chords for âPour Some Sugar On Meâ by Def Leopard.
Jeno looks at you, a wry smile on his face. âWould you care to dance with me, partner?â He asks, holding out his elbow. You loop your arm in his.Â
âOf course.âÂ
By this time, more of the younger people were standing up, dancing with their friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, or wives. You and Jeno were dancing, not caring how you looked, your hands clasping and unclasping as Jeno twirled you around to the rock song. You both sing along to the song, knowing the famous song.Â
When the song ends, youâre out of breath, your chest against Jenoâs, but Jeno doesnât look very tired; thereâs only a small drop of sweat pooling at his forehead, and heâs able to control his breathing. While the crowd screams, cheering for the band that just performed, you and Jeno are in your own world.Â
You feel like you know what Jenoâs thinking.Â
Slowly, you start leaning in, and Jeno follows your example. Before long, your lips land on his. You only want it to be a peck, but your body refuses to listen to your brain, so here you were, for what feels like centuries kissing Jeno. You werenât going to struggle against your feelings anymore, you were going to float like you were at the beach.
Kissing your brotherâs best friend.Â
Kissing the guy that all the girls in high school drooled over, the guy that got so many sports scholarship offers, the guy that many thought was infallible.Â
But heâs just Jeno, the adorable dork whoâs stuck with your brother for almost their whole lives through thick and thin.Â
The adorable dork that youâve helplessly fallen in love with.
Reluctantly, you both pull away, your breaths hitting each othersâ noses. Youâre almost to scared to look Jeno in the eye.
You just changed everything.Â
While youâre too busy not looking at Jeno, he takes your chin with his thumb and forefinger and tilts your gaze upward, to look at him.Â
When you look into his beautiful brown eyes, you realize that you didnât change everything with one kiss. The feelings were always there. While you were slowly falling for Jeno, Jeno started slowly falling for you.
âI-I think Iâm in love with you,â Jeno says, his voice unsure, lacking that cocky athlete tone thatâs synonymous with Lee Jeno. While one hand remained holding your chin up to face him, the other hand was on your waist.
You didnât think you ever wanted him to stop touching you.Â
âNo,â he corrects himself, clearing his thoat. Seconds felt like hours, and your heart is racing like crazy.
âI know Iâm in love with you.âÂ
You think the loud beating sound is just your heart, but when you look up, the black sky is filled with color, expressive fireworks shining before dissipating. Red, orange, blue, and purple fill the sky before gray smoke settles and floats away. The park is oddly quiet while at least two hundred people enjoy the fireworks and are held by their boyfriends or girlfriends. You look up with Jeno in the same position you were, his arm still on your faces close. Your jaw is close to touching his collar bone, your nose almost touching his neck.Â
âI love you too.âÂ
-
Itâs probably one in the morning right now.Â
Ever since you and Jeno confessed your feelings, all you were doing was hiding your feelings around your family. You didnât want Renjun finding out about your relationship just yet, and Jeno had the same idea. You and Jeno wouldnât advertise to your families that you were hanging out, and most of the time, you met up at the pet shelter, where Doyoung was the only one who knew about the true nature of your relationship (after the unfortunate man walked in on you two making out in the janitorâs closet). You and Jeno forced him to promise that he wouldnât tell anyone or even give any hints if he ran into your families; in small towns like yours, word travels fast.
Other than seeing Jeno at the animal shelter, you would sneak Jeno into your bedroom at night. A little part of you thrived from the danger you felt, doing something secret and slightly forebidden (nothing this exhilarating ever happened to you in high school or in college). You live in a one-story bungalow (like all the houses in your neighborhood), and your parentsâ room is on the other side of your room, with the kitchen separating your rooms.Â
However, only a wall was separating you from Renjunâs room. You think youâre safe right now since through the paper-thin walls, you can hear Renjun soundly snoring to himself. The iceing on the cake was that Renjun is a light sleeper.Â
You hear a knock on your window, and you look to see that itâs Jeno. Youâre in your pajamas, just a shirt with some pajama shorts, and you get off your bed, systematically opening the latch to your window. Pushing the window, it opens now, and Jeno opens it a little wider, enough for you to let him in.Â
Heâs dressed in a T-shirt, sweatpants, and red, drugstore flipflops. He rubs his arm a little bit, a small scowl on his face.Â
âYou should really trim that rose bush,â Jeno says softly, his gaze following to the rosebush that is near your window. Outside your window, you had a good view of the garden, and your mother took great pain to maintain that garden; your father often joked that it was her third child. For Jeno to get access to your window, he would have to wade through all the plants and flowers, careful not to step on anything because your mom would notice the next day. âI think it roughed me up pretty good.âÂ
âLet me see,â you whisper, pulling his arm. In the minimal light that came from the almost full moon outside, youâre able to see clearly. Itâs just a little scratch, that was slowly turning into a red line. No blood.Â
âYouâll live,â you say rolling you eyes. Sometimes Lee Jeno was the most dramatic guy that youâve ever met.
Jeno pouts. âI think I would feel better if you kissed it,â he suggests.
You heave a sigh. âI swear to God,â you mutter. You lean foreward, pressing your lips against his arm. âThat better?â You ask, crossing your arms and leaning your weight to one leg.Â
âHow about one here?â He asks, pointing to his lips.Â
You laugh a little to yourself. âGreedy littleââÂ
Jeno interrupts you. âDonât act like you donât want to.âÂ
Standing on your toes, you lean in, your nose touching Jenoâs for a brief moment before your lips collide. Jenoâs hands gravitate towards your waist as he tries to push you against the nearest wall. He pushes you to the wall with the window he climbed into your room with. Thereâs only a narrow gap of space between the edge of the window and the bookshelf that houses all of your albums. He pushes you there, his knee finding its place between you legs. He grunts a little as his lips trail from your mouth to your chin to your neck. He slides you against the wall, your elbow hitting the edge of your bookshelf, and something goes flying off of the top of your bookshelf.
Immediately, you and Jeno jump apart at the noise when the object hits the floor. Youâre thankful that the carpet muffles the sound, but itâs still audible since it hit the edge of the wooden door. You bend down to examine the fallen object, realizing that itâs just a snowglobe. You pick it up, putting it on your desk instead. No one stirs. Renjun is still in his room snoring.Â
âWeâre supposed to be quiet!â You whisper loudly, putting your index finger to your lips.Â
âIâm sorry!â Jeno apologises.Â
âGod, you lumber around my room like you havenât been here before,â you joke. âHow about letâs go into the bed where thereâs less chance of making a noise.â
Jeno quickly agrees, and you both go into your bed, under the covers. Jenoâs arms find their place around you once more, and you put your head on Jenoâs chest, feeling his heartbeat. Jeno kisses the top of your head. After a few moments of lying like this in silence, your lips find Jenoâs again. Youâre on top of him, him straddling your hips, but quickly, it turns into him on top of you. You both kiss each other with a new kind of fervor, but Jeno pulls away. âHow long are we going to be doing this?â He asks. âI donât know about you, but this whole sneaking around thing is getting kind of old. I just want to call you my girlfriend in front of people.â
You kiss him. âJust until I get the chance to tell Renjun.â You say. âI have a speech prepared.â You clear you throat, shifting your position in bed so you can face your boyfriend. In the dim light in which you can barely see Jeno, you can imagine his beautiful features, barely believing that you are his girlfriend. âI love Jeno, Jeno loves me, we want to be together, and you canât do anything about it.â Jeno waits for more.Â
âThatâs it?â He asks. Â
You shrug your shoulders. âWhat else am I supposed to say?âÂ
Jeno smiles. He finds directness to be one of your most endearing qualities. You arenât scared to say whatâs on your mind, even if itâs controversial. He puts a hand on your cheek and brings you closer to him, kissing you again. His lips smack against yourâs and youâre pretty sure you can hear audible popping sounds every time you both mutually pull away for air, only meaning to come back.Â
When he pulls away, Jeno says. âY/N, you should at least be a bit more considerate to his feelings. This is going to be a big change for him.â Jeno reasons.Â
You seemed to like the exact opposite of what Jeno sees in you. You liked the way he considered everyone, and although it sometimes makes it seems like he is a people-pleaser, people who are the most considerate to othersâ feelings when it doesnât align with their own are the people who are the peacemakers, the role models, the people who rule the world.Â
While you were the fire, Jeno was the water, who made you see reason. And your directness teaches Jeno to stand up for himself.Â
âI know, but if Renjun canât accept it, then he needs to grow up.âÂ
âI donât think Renjun wants to grow up.âÂ
After you hear the new voice, the lights turn on, and you and Jeno immediately jump apart to opposite sides of your twin bed (but itâs not possible without your bodies still touching). This only gives the onlooker a better view of the two parties involved. When you and Jeno finally decide to face the onlooker, you realize that itâs Renjun in his pajamas. He wasnât wearing his contacts, but he doesnât need them to recognize the two most important people in his life. His arms are crossed as he examines both you and Jeno, and together, you both struggle for an explanation.
âSurprise?â You and Jeno chorus together.Â
-
PRESENT DAY
Eventually, Renjun got over it. Or else, he wouldnât have been able to give such a wonderful best man speech.Â
Thatâs right. After years of dating which helped you realize that no one was more perfect for you than Jeno, you and Jeno decided to get married in 2003 after you both were settled in your careers. Jeno, after a few months of relaxation, got a job at a marketing firm, and he worked his way up to become a lead account manager. You, after earning your degree in accounting, worked at a firm for a few years before quitting and becoming the book keeper at Taeyongâs pet shelter, which now you owned. Taeyong moved to his motherâs paid-off house in Seoul to take care of his aging mother, so he stepped down and gave you ownership of his beloved pet shelter. He now worked at his motherâs supermarket and visited you often.
Sometimes, it amazed you how far society has gone since your childhood. You would never have dreamed of touch-screen cell phones with the power of a full-sized computer or your fridge making grocery lists for you. It was convenient and fascinating, but at other times, this new world scared you; only recently has it been confirmed that your phone is listening to you and people are selling your online data.
âKids, dinner!â You shouted up the stairs. Just after you were married, you became pregnant with your daughter, and five years later, your son came along.Â
âComing,â your daughter Yoona said.Â
âYeah!â Your son Hyuckjae yelled from his room. That wasnât really an answer, leaving you signing by the kitchen.Â
Jeno is already sitting at the table, eating the meal that you prepared. It wasnât that complicated, just some fried rice with some vegetables and meat, as well as potato soup since you were tired after your long day at work. You sat at the table next to your husband, and you know you donât have to call for your children again when you hear thundering down the stairs. Yoonaâs phone is glued to her hands, while Hyunjae finds his position next to Jeno. The food is on the table, but only three of you are eating; Yoonaâs food remains untouched as she sits down and keeps her attention only on her phone, not acknowledging the presence of her family.
âYoona!â You say, snapping in front of her face. Only when you put your hand between her phone did she actually look at you.Â
âWhat do you want mom?â She says, exasperated.Â
âArenât you going to eat your food?âÂ
âYeah,â she replies, âIn a little bit,â Almost immediately, she only looks back at your phone.Â
âYoona, put the phone away.âÂ
âThatâs right honey,â a new voice interjects, and itâs Jeno. âPut your phone away. We want to have a conversation.â Jeno adds.Â
âAbout what?â Yoona asks. She finally puts her phone down and looks at you both. âAre you guys having a midlife crisis?â
âMidlife ââ Jeno stops.Â
âWeâre not even that old yet!â You exclaim.
âYeah Yoona,â Hyuckjae adds.Â
âShut up Hyuckjae,â Yoona says, her voice snarky. âButtering up to Mom and Dad isnât going to get you a phone.âÂ
âSays who?â Hyuckjae argues back. âMom and Dad didnât say anything.âÂ
âHyuckjae, youâre not getting a phone,â you say stubbornly.Â
âOh come on, Mom!â Hyunjae whines. âIâm the only eighth grader without a phone!â Hyuckjae counters.Â
âMe and your father didnât have a phone at your age. Youâll live.âÂ
âThatâs because you guys lived in the stone ages.âÂ
Jeno scoffs. âThe â90âs werenât even that long ago.âÂ
Yoona cocks her head. âThe â90âs are in history books now.âÂ
You and Jeno both look at each other, but Yoona continues. âThe â90âs were like thirty years ago.âÂ
You knew that time had passed, but it never really occurred to you the quantifiable number of years; someone born in 1990 is in their thirties now. You vividly remember 1990, being a thirteen year old. Jeno was fifteen. You wonder how heâs feeling.Â
âThat doesnât change why you should have a phone, Hyuckjae,â you say.Â
âWhat about schoolwork? Iâll be in high school in the fall.âÂ
âYou can use the family computer.â Hyuckjae groans; the desktop in the computer room right off the entrance of yourâs and Jenoâs suburban home (originally the formal dining room) is a Windows 8.1, and somewhat slow.Â
âHyuckjae, weâll get you a phone your first month of freshman year, just like your mom and I agreed on.â Jeno says cooly. âThatâs when Yoona got her first phone.âÂ
Hyunjae grunts. âBut thatâs so long from now.âÂ
Noticing how the conversation mainly was between you, Jeno, and Hyunjae, Yoona gestures to pick up her phone when you point at her.Â
âDonât even think about picking up that phone right now, young lady,â you say pointedly, and Yoonaâs hands immediately back away.Â
âRight that conversation weâre going to have,â Jeno says, redirecting the topic. âHow was everyoneâs day?âÂ
âThatâs the conversation you want to have?â Yoona says.Â
âYeah, whatâs wrong with it?â You ask, defending Jeno.Â
âNothingâŚâ Yoona trails away.Â
âIâll start,â you say. âI had an overall good day. Taeyong gave me an extra 15% off groceries instead of 10%.â It was incredibly convenient that Taeyongâs motherâs supermarket was only eight miles from the pet shelter.Â
âNice,â Jeno says, smiling in that same boyish eyesmile that you fell in love with all those years ago. âI had an average day. It would have been good, but the coffee machine in the cafeteria broke,â Jeno sighs.
You and Jeno both turn to look at Yoona. âI had a good day, I guess. I got a 100 on my calculus test.âÂ
âGreat job!â Jeno says. You reach over to rub Yoonaâs shoulders.Â
âYou see? I told you it would benefit to go to calculus tutoring,â you say.Â
âHyuckjae? How was your day?â Jeno asks.Â
âNot good. You guys arenât getting me a phone.âÂ
âWe just said we would!â You exclaim. âWhen youâre a freshman.âÂ
Hyuckjae grunts at this and stands up, heading towards the sink to clear the remnants on his plate. You didnât realize that Yoona and Hyukcjae had been eating particularly fast tonight, evident by their nearly empty dishes.
âIâm going to the computer room,â he says, not waiting for a response when he leaves. Shortly after, Yoona is done with her food. After rinsing her plate, she leaves it in the sink and snatches her phone off of the dining room table (as if you were going to take it and look at the texts on the notification bar).Â
âIâm going to my room,â she says. She waits for you to say a resigned âokay,â and she heads up the stairs, sparing no time to look at her phone.
âWhat could be so important that she can barely stay a free moment without her phone?â You voice to your husband. You and Jeno are taking your time eating your meal at the table, now by yourselves.Â
âWhat isnât so important at that age?â Jeno says before slurping the soup collected in his spoon. âWhen youâre a teenager, you see things with a different perspective than you would see if you were a mom, for example.âÂ
You sigh at these words, the fresh perspective that your husband is giving you that you failed to see initially. Jeno is good at seeing all sides of the situation; thatâs why Renjun always goes to him for advice.
âI guess,â you say, crossing your arms. âI canât imagine being a kid right now.â
âI bet Yoona and Hyuckjae canât imagine being a kid in the â90âs.âÂ
You sigh. âThings really have changed, havenât they?â When you and Jeno were younger, you werenât trying to get the best gadgets to impress your friends, you didnât have advanced TVâs and vacuum cleaners that were listening to you, you werenât always on Instagram and Twitter, and the concept of a âsocial media influencerâ didnât exist at all.
When you and Jeno were younger, you thought the future would resemble Back to the Future. Although there werenât any hoverboards that actually hovered the ground in 2016, the actual future paralleled the movie in surprising ways with the fact that people were always so distracted with the screens in their hands.Â
âDonât you ever just feelâŚâ you start off. Jenoâs attention is on you while he eats.Â
âDonât you ever feel that people are always in their own worlds?â You ask. âAlways on their phones looking at the latest posts, listening to music, downloading photos? No one ever runs around the neighborhood and draws chalk or play with the neighborhood kids,â you sigh. It was like people preferred to type than to talk.Â
âYeah. It wasnât like that when we were kids,â Jeno says. You eat a couple of spoons of friend rice, the silence between you both evident.Â
âIn a way,â Jeno says, âThings are still the same.âÂ
âHow?â You ask.
âWell, people still have the need to be social, whether itâs on social media or in person. And we are still trying to keep up with our friends,â he says. Without words, you know heâs talking about your son and how obsessed he was about getting a phone since his friends started to flash their iPhones and Samsungs.Â
âI still think life was simpler back in the â90âs,â you say stubbornly. âEven though we had to use TV Guide to find out what was on TV, it was still easier. Iâm always looking over my shoulder these days,â you confess. âEvery single second, so much data is being collected and sold, it makes me worried. On top of all that, social media isnât good for young kids,â you say, redirecting the conversation back to Hyuckjae. You feel a little guilty seeing Hyuckjae so upset that he doesnât have a phone, but it was the principle that mattered. You didnât think phones were good for young kids, to be hooked up to the internet 24/7. Being fifteen and having a phone isnât much better than being fourteen and having a phone, but you drew the line at high school. You couldnât protect your son forever, no matter how much you desperately wanted to.Â
âThereâs still something that remains simple, though,â Jeno says. When he gently squeezes your thigh, you think you have an idea.Â
âThis,â he says. He leans over and kisses your lips, cupping your cheek. His lips are soft as they rub rhythmically against your lips. He pulls away, his voice soft. âI love you. We can be in 2092, teleporting to see our great-grandchildren, and Iâll be in love with you,â Jeno says.Â
You giggle. Nineteen years of marriage, and he still makes you feel like a young bride.Â
âWe can be in 3092 with our brains connected to robots, and Iâll still be in love with you,â you counter, turning this into a competition.
âHow about letâs think about right now,â Jeno says. He cups your cheeks in his hands and admires your eyes before he kisses you deeply, as if he isnât going to kiss you ever again.Â
The world can change as much as it wants, as long as you have Lee Jeno by your side.Â

a/n: if you've made it this far, thank you so much for reading :) since this is my first slowburn, let me know what you thought in the comments or by sending me an ask! thanks again!
Enhypen hyung line reacting to another member calling you hot:
warnings: none actually just possessive behavior
i am so bad at this i swear, please do give feedback. Also the reader is gn!
Heeseung:

While waiting for you in the living room, Heeseungâs foot taps against the wooden floor in anticipation. The members were walking in and out, some coming from outside and others leaving.Â
His ears perk up when he hears one of the members talking to you about something. Once you two step out of the room, Heeseung doesn't like how close Jay is standing next to you or how you're smiling at him.Â
"Oh by the way," Jay smiles as he walks with you to the living room. "You look hot today."
Heeseungâs blood boils the moment your cheeks are visibly heated. After accepting his compliment, you're met with a visibly upset Heeseung.
You gulp nervously as Heeseung looks over at Jay, sending him the most threatening stare he's ever seen, to which Jay stills. "I take it back," he says quickly before leaving.Â
Heeseung looks at you. "Who said you could accept other people's compliments? Did I say so?"
You shake your head as he grabs your hand, yanking you behind him. "You may be pretty but you're mine."
Jay:Â

He doesn't take it very well. He's just a bit possessive when it comes to others even looking your way, let alone complimenting you. He always makes sure you know who you belong to, even if it means resorting to rather violent methods.Â
So the day he overheard your and Sunghoonâs conversation, he was already upset when he heard you laughing. 'Sunghoon isn't even funny,' he thought as he kept waiting for you.Â
"You know, you look pretty hot today," Sunghoon says to you in what sounds flirtatious to Jay but it's just him being nice. He walks into the room, reaching his hand out to you to get you out of there once he hears you laugh and thank him.Â
"You flirting with them?" Jay sounds threatening towards Sunghoon who innocently shakes his head. "I just thought they lo-"
"I don't care what you thought, don't ever say that again, got it?" He nods before he leaves.Â
Jay turns to you. "What? You get all dolled up to get compliments from my friends?"Â
You shake your head as he moves you closer. "Well then, it's time to give them a reminder as to who you belong to," he says as he moves towards your neck, marking it with blue and purple.Â
Jake:Â

He is incredibly possessive, staring down anyone who tried approaching only to look sweet and fluffy to you. He didn't want to introduce you to the members, worried you'd become interested in someone that wasn't him but that surely wouldn't happen.Â
You'd gotten all dressed up for a day out with him, feeling very good about yourself. Jake was in the kitchen, getting something to drink before you two left.Â
Once he gets to the room, he sees you and Heeseung talking about something stupid and you laughing. Your back is faced towards Jake so you can't see the brutal death stare he's giving him. "You look pretty hot to-" Heeseung doesn't get to finish his sentence when he meets Jakeâs stare, instead turning around to leave.
You stand in confusion before turning around to see a now smiley Jake coming towards you. "You wouldn't leave me right?" He sounded sad, always pulling this card to make you feel guilty for talking to one of the members.Â
"Of course not," you smile, hugging him tightly. "Then don't ever accept a compliment from anyone that isn't me."
Sunghoon:

He may be extremely possessive but once someone compliments you, he shows no shame in showing you off. He dolls you up himself, knowing a compliment would prove his hard work was working.
He was walking into the dorm, seeing you and Jake talking about dogs and whatnot, seeing you laugh at his words, whatever he was saying.Â
"You know," Jake says. "You look pretty hot today." Here comes Sunghoon and his huge ego, taking Jake aback.
"That's right, they do," he says with pride in his tone, wrapping his arm around you. "Now go away."Â
Jake looks a bit scared from how threatening Sunghoonâs face was, waving you goodbye.
"I swear, it seems like I have to drill it into their brains that you belong to me."

Hi, I hope you're doing well. Is your request open? If so, can you do a yandere!enhypen when they got sick (fever maybe) and their s/o taking care of them? Thanks(ââ˘á´â˘â) have a good day/night
Hello! Sorry for the late answer and thank you for the requestđ I hope you have a nice day
Yandere Enhypen Reaction: When they are sick and their s/o take care of them
Heeseung
Heeseung has been overworked nowadays and you can see it too. Even he is too tired, he never forget to take a good care of you. Preparing for your meals because he doesn't want you to hurt yourself when cooking, he washed the clothes and even clean the house. It's not like you are lazy or you don't want to help. It is because of Heeseung is too scared of you getting sick, tired or hurt. You tried to convince him so you can help him doing chores but he always reply "If you want to help, you can sit cutely and wait for me to done."
It's annoying sometimes.
However, today is become too much. Due to the stress at work, he became weaker and get dizzy often. When he was back, his body became limp and nearly passed out at the door. Luckily you were fast on caught his body in your arms. You pulled him to the bedroom and laying him on the bed. It was difficult because he is heavy.
After you successfully put him on the bed, you stared at his pale face. There were sweats on the forehead and the colour of his lips become light coloured instead of pinkish indicates he is sick. You take off his clothes and change to the new one and left him on the bed so he can rest.
You decided to cook him a porridge using online recipe and of course his favourite food ; ramen. Even though it is your first time cooking but you are being careful to not hurt yourself because you don't want to make your boyfriend worried.
After two hours of sleeping, Heeseung's eyes slowly moving and opened. It took him few seconds to realise where is he . The man immediately sit up and looked for his girl.
"Oh you already wake up? How do you feel now?"
Heeseung looked at you with a confusion on his face. You couldn't help but giggled at his bambi eyes. You straddled his laps and made him look at you.
"You passed out at the living room. I carried you to this room and ergh you are so heavy. You need to take care of yourself, hee."
You said with sarcasm tone and it made Heeseung felt guilty a bit. He tugged you closer to his body.
"I'm sorry baby."
"No need to be sorry hee but you need to promise that you will ask for my help to do chores or we can do it together. Also you don't need to worry about me hurting myself. I will be cautious."
"Alright I will do that next time."
You smiled brightly and bring the porridge to your hand.
"Let's eat this first and your favourite ramen next. Then you need to take medicine."
"You...you cook..this?"
You saw that look on his eyes that indicates he started to worry.
"Hey, what I told you just now? I will not hurt myself. Look, there's no single of wound on my body."
Heeseung pecked your lips and leaned his forehead on you.
"Thank you y/n. I love you so much."
Jay
Jay is very stubborn. You didn't notice at first he was sick because he literally looked fine. But after hearing four coughs out from him, you started getting suspicious.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes honey I'm good."
But obviously you didn't trust him and hold him closer to you to feel his forehead.
"Gosh Jay you are burning and you must have sore throat too since your voice sound hoarse."
"I'm fine honey. You don't need to worry."
Huh. What a stubborn boyfriend you have. You cupped his cheeks and stared at him for few seconds. His cheeks slowly flushing red at the sudden closeness but he loves it.
"I am not fine with it. You need to rest, Jay.âÂ
Without waiting for his reply, you immediately went for looking the medicine that Jay should take. Your boyfriend ran and tried to stop you from doing anything but because of his weak body he can only screamed which made it worse to him because he has sore throat and to you because he never scream at you before.
You stared at him with shock face and lowkey wanted to cry because you didnât like people scream at you.
âI-Iâm sorry honey. I-â
âI was just trying to help you, Jay. Why are you being stubborn so much? Canât I take care of you? Do you think I am useless??â
Itâs the first time you getting angry at him. It shook you too that you can let out what you feel. Jay went closer to you and hugged you closer to his body.
âYou know I never think of you like that. You should not say things like that y/n. I donât like when you raise your voice at me.â
âWell, if you donât like that then can you stop being stubborn and let me take care of you?â
Jay smiled weakly at you. He realised he should not shout at you at the first place. You just wanted to help him.
âOkay doctor. Iâm sorry for my behaviour just now.â
You giggled at him and brought him to the bed to let him have a rest that he deserves.
Jake
You woke up when you felt Jake's body warmer than usual. You also heard he whimpered few times in his sleep.
The man opened his eyes when he felt his lover caressing his hair.
"My darling, good morning."
He leaned closer to you to have some kisses but getting startled when his lips met with your palm instead of your soft lips.
"You are sick, Jake."
"Am not darling. Come on, I want kisses."
"No, you stay on the bed. I will make you food."
You left Jake being dumbfounded on the bed and went to the kitchen. He doesn't want to let you go and keep chasing you just to get kiss but failed many times. So, he caged you in his arms to make sure you will not run again from him.
"Please y/n, don't leave me."
"Jake, I just want to cook for you."
"Then, give me a kiss first."
"No, I don't want to get sick."
"Darling, how could you? I just want to get a kiss. Am I that disgusting?"
Jake manipulative mode is on. You sighed at the sight of him sobbing quietly.
"Jakey, you're not disgusting. I just don't want both of us getting sick together. It will be difficult."
Jake didn't reply to your words. He keep sobbing to show you how hurt he is when you didn't kiss him.
"Alright, let's make a deal. I will give you kiss if you're not sick anymore."
"Kiss and cuddles?"
"Yes, jakey. Kiss and cuddles."
It's nice to say that Jake finally got what he wants after two days being sick. He never let you go even you want to pee. He always follow wherever you went.
"You look beautiful."
"Jake, I'm peeing."
Sunghoon
"Baby, I'm strong. I don't need this. I just need you."
Sunghoon pushed away the tray that has his medicines and pulled you closer to hug your body but instead he got smacked lightly on his head.
"ACk!!! Did you just hit me??!!"
"Yeahh, you need to take this, hoon."
"Who are you to tell me what to do, huh?"
You can't deny even he is sick, his aura still intimidating. Sunghoon doesn't like when someone asked him to do something. You calmed yourself and put the tray on the table and caressed his hair to comfort him.
"Love, you are sick right now. You have fever. I don't want you to get sick." You said while touch his warm cheeks made him melted on your arms.
"But, I want you."
"You can but after you eat this, okay?"
Sunghoon grumbled and rolled his eyes and let you do what you wanted. You pecked his forehead and cheeks then tugged him with the blanket so he can rest. At first, Sunghoon demanded you to sleep with him because he wanted to hold you. Then, after an hour you slowly let yourself go when you knew Sunghoon finally really asleep.
You went to clean and arranged the furniture in the house. You enjoyed yourself doing what you want.
You decided to cook for lunch however you felt something was watching you. It's impossible because there was no neighbour around your house.
"What are you watching?"
"ARGH"
Now, you were the one who screaming. You turned at your back to look at Sunghoon who just probably woke up from his sleep and stared at you confusedly.
"How long have you been standing there?"
"10 minutes. What were you watching?"
You sighed at his statement and pulled his body to hug.
"Hoon, you scared me. I thought someone was watching me while I'm prepare for the lunch."
"I already make sure no one will know about us, baby."
You unattached yourself and pulled Sunghoon to sit on the chair while continuing the cooking.
"Let's eat together. I can see your fever is reducing."
"This will be first and last you cooking, baby. I will cook after this."
"Yes, hoon."
Sunoo
Sunoo is sick and he knew it but you couldn't explain why the man cooked for you like you were the one who is sick.
"Sunoo, you need to rest."
"Baby, you are the one who need to rest."
Sunoo sassily said while continue preparing the lunch. You can see his cheeks became red because of the heat and his body nearly lost its stable so you walked to him and hugged him from behind.
"Sunoo, you are sick and you need to rest. I can do this for you."
Your boyfriend turned himself to look at you. He can't say anything when you were pouting with your alluring eyes. He sighed and let you brought him to the couch to let him rest and finished the cooking.
"Sunoo, now it's the time for you to take medicine."
Sunoo rolled his eyes. He doesn't like the taste of that thing. He glared at you when you innocently stare and giving him the medicine.
"Baby, I think you should go put those dishes on the sink, I will take this while you do it."
Your boyfriend tried to be sneaky but too bad you are more expert than him.
You took the pill and put it inside your mouth and cupped Sunoo's cheeks then kissed him. The man was shook at first but then melted on your arms, you pushed the pill with your tongue to him made him whimpered and let him go after he gulped it.
"..you..h-how.."
"Well, I will go wash the dishes first."
"Hey!! You can't just go after doing that."
"Do what?"
Sunoo grumbled and pulled you again to get one last kiss before he get his rest.
"Thank you for ..that.."
Sunoo quickly tugged himself in the blanket and turned away from facing you. His cheeks can't stop from blushing and it made you giggled silently.
Jungwon
Jungwon is such hardworking person but sometimes he does it too much to the point he forgot to take care of himself.
"won, are you good?"
"Yes, I am. Why, my dear?"
"You had watered the plants three times now."
Jungwon stopped what he was doing and put the watering can on the ground before looking back at you.
"Maybe I'm being forgetful today."
He giggled while you staring at him suspiciously not buying with his words.
"I'm not sick."
"I didn't say anything."
"Well, I'm just telling you in case you think I'm sick"
"So, you are sick."
"I- I just said I'm not."
You stopped his protest when you leaned your forehead to his. Jungwon's eyes soften when looking at your worried pupils.
"Why do you look scared?"
"I am worried, won. I don't want you to get sick."
You said and left a peck on his lips making him chasing more but got stopped when you pulled his hand to the bed.
"Lay down here and wait for me. I will cook for you."
"Only for today y/n."
"Yes, my love."
Oh how Jungwon is so grateful to have you.
Riki
Riki is stubborn. He really tried to show that he is not sick with playing his games energytically.
"See, I told you I'm not sick. I can play the game easily."
"You lost the game five times already, Riki."
"Hey! Don't say that. This level is hard so it's understandable if I lost the game."
"I will eat all of your bunggeoppang if you still not admit that you are sick."
Riki gasped dramatically and glared at you. The boy quickly off his game and walked towards you.
"How dare you use that to me. I told you I am good."
"Riki, you've been coughing for many times now. If you don't want take this medicine, you will get sore throat."
"It can be solve if I drink water, y/n. Don't worry."
"Let's eat food first, okay."
You secretly called the other members to help you give the medicine to him because you knew he will run away from it.
"No y/n! I don't want to eat it. It tastes disgusting!!"
"Oppa, hold him for me!"
"Y/n! Faster, this kid is too strong."
"I will remember this y/n. I will not forgive you."

heeseung

heeseung had a long day today. he was eager to return home, to you, his favourite doll. as soon as he entered his home, his eyes popped out of his eye socket when he saw you wearing his favourite lingerie set.
"look who is all dolled up for daddy. do you want me to go rough on you, my north star? i can do all sorts of things to your amazing body the whole day and right now it looks like, i wil be. do you know how tempting you look, with this skimpy lace barely covering your body, huh? say goodbye to your sleep honey." he slurred as he ripped off the thin material, exposing yourself to him. he carried you bridal style and put on the bed, him hovering above you.
"so, shall we began, baby?" sucking your neck making you writhe in pleasure.
oh boy, you are in for a long ride tonight.
jay

"you know what you did wrong, right y/n?" jay cooed in your ears, as the pain from the whip made you cry. you were tired up, naked and eagle spread, while jay was shirtless, with a thick black whip in his hand.
"yes, daddy. i know--ahhhhh" you screamed as the whip hit you again, this time on your pussy instead of your boobs.
"what did you do wrong,y/n?"
"i put on the lingerie and sent those pictures to you while you were on a meeting. and when you told me you won't be home for a long time, i masturbated and you caught me. i touched your property without your permission sir. please punish me." you growled as another pleasure pain shoots right through your pussy where the whip hit you.
"good girl, so get ready for your punishment. i am not going to go easy on you, considering you made so hard in front of my colleagues." jay said, as he undressed himself, placing his huge cock in front of your entrance and thrusting into you, grunting with need and desire.
jake

being locked up in the basement of your supposed boyfriend's house, dressed in nothing but a lingerie, made you tear up. you don't actually like to wear lingerie or anything that shows your skin because a) you lacked the confidence and b) you thought that your boyfriend would think that you were ugly. right now, you wanted to run and hide away from your yandere boyfriend, who was now sitting in front of you in a chair, eyes piercing through you.
jake was having the time of his life, seeing you in his favourite pair of lingerie and kneeling submissively infront him. he was enraged when you told him that you were embarrassed with your body. thats why he made you wear it, to know that you are not ugly and he still loves you. getting hornier by each second, he stood up and came near you, grabbing your jaws.
"kiss me baby. i want you to taste my lips to know how much im craving for your touch." and smashed lips plump lips into you and getting ready to takes further.
sunghoon

you regret going to the forest three days ago, at the dusk. you regret venturing into dark mossy paths at late evening. and you regret seeing your best friend for who he really was, sinking his teeth into the neck of a poor rabbit, and drinking its blood. your feet suddenly felt like tons of lead, unable to move it even an inch, allowing park sunghoon to grab you and sprint towards his home, with you slung across his shoulders. the funniest fact was that, this was the last time you saw the outside world, before he locked you up inside his home and made you his blood slave.
sunghoon had always known your blood was sweet, just like you. that's why he was always near you. but not only that, you were also the love of his life. he was so relieved actually when you saw him feeding off the rabbit, as he was worried about how to break the fact that he was a vampire. now he can have all of you to himself, without any other prying male gaze. sunghoon kept you as his blood slave, as he was obsessed with the taste of it and also you would be always around him. he always makes sure that you are dressed in a lingerie, making it easier for him to suck your blood, while grazing over your body with his pretty hands.
"do you know how appetizing you look right now, y/n? i can't wait anymore." he said, as she slowly inserted his fangs into your neck, earning a moan from you. he would take care of other lust creeping through his body, other than blood lust later, he thought, as he got himself immersed into tasting your sweet life elixir.

i hope you like this! thank you so much for requesting. and don't forget to take care of yourself<3đ(feedback are very much appreciated). also requests are open, so please feel free to request.
