Why is this low-key one of the most depressing episodes I have seen on television?

Beep-boop died, its burning remains were mistaken as a shooting star. Wander wished for Beep-boop’s luck, then it cuts to the picture they took floating in the space alone, and the fuckass ending animatics has their sand drawing being washed away by the waves like WHAT

How am I supposed to cope when this episode is literally right after THE comedic masterpiece
