"In retrospect, I do wonder how helpful conferences like this are. Because I feel like you do a lot of work, you work all year, and we spent $21,000 and we got 21 speakers. Hopefully lots of people got to meet new people, and hopefully we got people who don’t usually come to these events to see something new and think about going into a career or at least broadening what they think about every day. But I don’t know really how effective it is. It’s kind of crushing to think, “Am I really helping or am I moving chairs and tables?” I think idea-wise, it’s really exciting to galvanize people in Chicago about something you really care about, but at the end of the day you have to think about the biggest impact, and so while I think this is a good way to do it, I think there are probably better ways. I wish I knew what they were."
