the concept of love, although one you never quite understood or experienced, was something you craved desperately. 

you’d watched your parents divorce before you could even read at a third grade level, just knowing that the look in their eyes and the way they spoke to one another wasn’t the love (an intense feeling of deep affection) a husband and wife were supposed to have for one another.

you’d gotten bad vibes from your sister’s boyfriend when you met him by the time middle school came around, noticing the bruises on her arm and the fake, pained smile she wore even when they met at the alter a few years later.

your brother, once so happy go lucky and the only example of love you’d ever seen, had spiraled into a depression after him and his girlfriend broke up - the two of them in love and happy one moment and then torn apart the next.

you can’t remember a time you ever saw an instance of true love in your life, just hoping and praying it existed because of the movies you’ve seen and books you read.
