Still battling some internal demons: designing this dress for Kitana helped!

Haven’t been having the best couple of weeks with my mental health, but I’m fighting through it. So here’s Sonya Blade beating my issues into a bloody pulp! (What dya mean that’s not how self care works??)

Can you believe Sonya and Nightwolf invented that cat meme!
(Redraw/reimagining from ep 6 “Familiar red.” AKA the BEST ep…because it’s mostly all about Nightwolf. And tbf, he gets some good, heartfelt moments!)

I’ve re-discovered Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the realm. Cheesy? Yes, undoubtedly. Lovable? Oh absolutely. In terms of character chemistry, it’s got that hint of found-family that pretty much drives me and severely untapped comedy potential. (And weirdly, that carries over into the main game narrative, which I’m absolutely delighted to find out?? Ya know, considering what Mortal Kombat is most renowned for??)
Anyway, Nightwolf has always been my absolute favourite out of the roster, but more so in the cartoon. He’s just got “team’s tech-head little brother” vibes that I can’t NOT build on here! …And I just love the idea of Kiba getting into mischief on Nightwolf’s behalf.
…Not sure if I just wanna go full throttle and create a whole little series of doodles in the same vein as what X-Men: Evolution was to the X-Men series. Really tempted.

Celebrating another win in my archery with my redesign of Fleetway Amy Rose!
I’m still only a novice on the competition scene, and I still score less there than I do on my regular range, but I’m proud to report that my score was greatly improved today compared to my last one! AND!
And! Even though I was the only one in my own category (women’s barebow,) according to the official scoresheet released today, I actually matched the winner of the men’s category! I know that I still have a very long way to go, but that felt like a huge achievement today.
Now I need to keep improving to get the practice scores to match the competition one’s!
You have no idea how much this has touched me 😭
Thankyou! This is exactly what I wanted from my artwork; but don’t you worry, I’m having too much fun drawing the Chaotix and their chaotic family dynamic, and as long as I’ve got an idea they’re gonna have a piece!

Been so overwhelmed with all the notes, re blogs and wonderful tags I’ve been getting lately that I just had to draw my favourite found family as a big old THANKYOU!!!
It just…means so much to me that this one little thought has been shared by so many of us. I don’t know -why- it means so much to me, but I’m treasuring it; just like I’m treasuring every single like and tag and comment these pieces get.
Thankyou: not just for that, but for reminding me what art can do and for keeping me so inspired! I can’t wait to get started on my next piece with these guys!!

Alternative background style of my redesign of Fleetway Amy as a barebow archery champion; I just couldn’t decide what I liked more. On the one hand, the other is more dynamic…but this one has glitter!!

I know I’ve been MIA for a few days, but I had a very good reason. On Sunday I took part in my third ever archery competition…and I won!
That’s my second win out of three, alongside one second place!
So, to celebrate, I thought I’d try my hand at giving the Fleetway version of Amy Rose a slight re-imagining. I never got a chance to read the Fleetway Comics myself, them being cancelled before I was eight, but god did they look fun! I’m sure had I seen them on the shelves I would have ran right to them, but…I just don’t think I ever saw them on the newsagents stands?
Either way, from what I’ve seen they did a phenomenal job with their take on Amy Rose, and given that I already loved her from the mainline games it wasn’t gonna be hard to grab my attention.
For the piece itself; I decided to blend together aspects of both classic and modern, but rather than a hammer, I figured that Fleetway Amy would have some knowledge of traditional archery form (given how she wields a crossbow) and basically decided to lean into that angle. I know Fleetway Amy wore baggier, arguably comfier shirts, but that’s not always the best thing for archery—or barebow archery specifically—you don’t want anything that the string can whip against because it can knock your arrows off course; and even mm at the start can translate to whole inches or more at the target’s end—so I gave her more of a running-gear fit style shirt but paired it with a set of practical and fun as hell cargo pants! Actually, I feel like it works as a callback to the 90’s/00’s style anyway? And that was a fun style to revisit anyway, especially in Amy’s classic-era colour scheme! Also kept the modern pattern on her boots, but repurposed them to be a little more outdoorsy.
So, yeah, that was my weekend!

It’s not really all about the money: not entirely.
That’s always the vibe that I’ve gotten from Vector. Yes, he needs that cash to cover their bills, but only so he can keep a roof over their heads and the boys fed. Did you know that in Sonic heroes, one of Vector’s idle lines is “Darn. I forgot to pay the electric bill.” —that pretty much cemented my impression of him as “Dad friend,” especially considering that Espio and Charmy are underage.
But I also like to think that he never wants the boys to see the bills. I like to think he doesn’t want them to be so bogged down worrying about it that they can’t do, or even enjoy, their jobs.
Hoping to explore this one a little further.
I’m so glad that my artwork has been able to reach you like this; it’s exactly what I was hoping for.
If I can offer even a bit of the warmth and comfort that I needed as a teenager when things got tough, then I can call myself successful. Hopefully I can continue to meet these expectations!
Thankyou; I’m so glad to hear this.

Back with the second part of “Things I would have liked to see in the metal virus arc.”
Pretty much the biggest thing: Vector acknowledging how freaking traumatic seeing him get zombified must have been for Espio…
But then, he -is- a great detective…so I figure that he probably already knows damn well what it must be like: the trick is that Espio would probably have to be the one to broach the subject.
And, of course, Espio being Espio…just wouldn’t.
It was actually a lot of fun to play around with -how- to portray Espio here; there’s a fine line one can dance between stoicism and just shutting down on yourself completely, and it was intriguing trying to capture what Espio is clearly feeling despite his best efforts to hide it.

Recording AND judging 😂

More Chaotix family shenanigans!
Dya think Espio ever uses his invisibility to just “nope” on out of embarrassing situations?

I made a Ko-Fi page!
Look, I’ve accepted that I’m never gonna make it big in the industry…but I wouldn’t mind another crack at a bit of financial independence if possible, so I may as well try right?
Plus, in addition optional donations I’m offering something which I thought was pretty cool: an in depth look at design and development, as I was taught in Uni. Also includes a “How I would do it” tier: I’m basically selling my thought process, but only on some ideas that I’d hoped to be able to see “out there, on the screen” someday. It’s gonna include an in-depth look at the characters used, as well as sketch/design developments and annotated mock-production sheets.

Things I would have liked to seen explored in the metal virus arc: Espio dealing with not wanting to be “lead detective.” Not because he’s incapable, not because he wouldn’t be amazing at it; but because of the finality of the loss that would come with it.
Had this conversation in another post: when Vector said that line, it really had a vibe of a father passing on a position to his eldest son…a son who doesn’t feel ready for it despite being plenty capable.
What I would have loved to see in the comic; Espio grappling with the weight of that and maybe just having a moment where he feels his age. Just a little moment, at least.
I mean, the comics do a great service in letting the younger characters have moments of being young…but sometimes it feels a little disproportionate because, well…Sonic and everyone but Vector and Vanilla aren’t exactly all grown up either. Sometimes it can just come off a bit patronising/infantilising…but that’s a whole different conversation.
You just made my day!! I’m so touched to hear that, too! 😭 Honestly, I’ve had these little sketches brewing at the back of my mind for years, but I was always too skittish to see them through; but I’m so glad that I did because it’s some of the most fun I’ve had in ages!!

It’s nice to know I’m not alone in feeling that Espio isn’t quite so above it all. Yes, he is an undoubtedly talented and capable ninja, dedicated to his craft and proud of it…but he’s also still sixteen years old.
And I mean that in the best possible way! I would not have been this zen at sixteen!
Also, head-canon that because he’s basically the team dad/dad friend/promoted to parent, Vector hears a LOT of “Bo-oooss” being called like that whiny “Daa-aaad” noise and can do zippo about it.

Context for this: I swear to god, I’ve seen Espio being shown to sit on Vector’s desk in -some- kind of official capacity, so this was always how I pictured Espio having ‘claimed’ that spot…but I can’t find the OG image/scene for the life of me! If anyone can help me out and make sure I’m not losing my grip on reality, I’d really appreciate it 😂
I’m calling this one “waiting for work.” I still subscribe to the idea of the Classic Designs = Younger everyone, especially Vector! I mean look at ‘im, dude’s a walking time capsule!
This might be a set up for a semi-related thing…? Still mulling it over.

Part 2 of Espio acting his age for once and Vector aging like milk.
Know what? Same. 😭 That’s why I had to make a sequel!

Oddworld: The Promised Neverland Homages (Pt. 6)
I gotta be honest, this image had to be the one that I was most excited about since starting this series.
It’s based off barely a flash of a second in The Promised Neverland’s second opening, and it’s a much more ‘closed’ composition there, focussing mostly on Emma’s face and the braid that hides a significant injury. But for Abe I felt it was important to ‘zoom out,’ so to speak, to emphasise the action of him reaching up towards the moon—the moon with the face in the shape of Abe’s paw.
I just felt like it could represent so much all at once for him; wonder at its sight when he first escapes Rupture Farms, hope in darker moments, despair at all he’s learned since that first night of escape. Actually, it wasn’t very hard at all to adapt this image seeing as the bulk of it was just referencing *that* moment in Soulstorm—hands down one of my absolute favourite moments in a video game. The helplessness on Abe’s face as his body just loses all support, how he curls up and begins to quietly weep…the terror that flashes on his face when the keeper first approaches, and then how he calms a bit when he realises that she won’t hurt him. It’s just…it’s beautiful in how heartbreakingly poignant it is. And I really hoped to do it justice in this piece?

Oddworld: The Promised Neverland Homages (pt. 5)
Aka: my excuse to finally abuse the light pens in the name of art!!
I still can’t get over how well The Promised Neverland’s imagery lends itself to Oddworld…quite possibly because they’re pretty much the same concept, but still. I mean, fundamentally, Abe is absolutely a different character to Emma: he’s more reluctant in some respects and clearly doesn’t relish any of the danger he has to face…but he still loves his family. That moment where he hears gunshots and worriedly murmurs “The others…” is proof enough of that and it’s still as effective and powerful as Emma declaring that she never wants to lose another sibling to shipping.
That’s what I was hoping to convey most in this image—what the portal represents. Freedom, relief, safety; not necessarily for Abe, but for all the Mudokons we’ve helped him ferry to safety…or lost in one misstep.
