People LOVE To Act Like Herbivores Are Passive, Helpless Animals. They Are Not. An Injured Animal Is
People LOVE to act like herbivores are passive, helpless animals. They are not. An injured animal is probably stressed and scared and will still attack you because it's stressed and scared. She doesn't know or care what your intentions are. She is hurt and you're approaching her, just like predators.
Sure, mama moose is probably going to die. That's just what happens. Her calf will, too. But their lives go to sustain the lives of other mothers and their babies.
Injured and sick animals are preferred prey for predators. It's less risk, since the animal is weak. It's more likely they get to go home to their babies who need food, too. Or she's carrion for scavengers, or even stays long enough to provide nutrients for the plants from which she took her own meals.
Nature is cruel. It's unpleasant. It's uncomfortable and painful and hard to stomach. But this is the necessity of nature.

I feel like wildlife education/animal ethics should be a required school subject for this very reason. These are likely the same people that would get out of their cars to go out and pet the bison in Yellowstone.
