Decembers Venus Retrograde

December’s Venus Retrograde

On December 19, 2021, Venus will Station Retrograde in Capricorn. What does this mean for us?

To understand this transit, we need to first break down the elements that collectively compose its energy. Venus is a personal planet with strong feminine energy, and it reigns over abundance, sensuality, beauty, and our connection to nature. Venus is the natural ruler of Taurus and Libra, which are both signs with an eye for aesthetics and a love for comfort.

Capricorn, on the other hand, is a serious and no-nonsense sign with cardinal earth energy. It isn’t the most natural placement for Venus, but it’s certainly an interesting one.

We’re now approaching Capricorn Season, so those themes are amplified in the wider astrological climate. This means that Capricorn-related topics will likely show up in our lives in increasing quantity and intensity as more celestial bodies move through Capricorn’s energy (and encourage us to do the same).

So what are the themes brought to light by Capricorn, and how will this transit impact them? Let’s talk about it.

This Transit

Venus will be retrograde in Capricorn from December 19 to January 29, 2022. However, you won’t have to wait to feel its effects: the pre-retrograde zone began on November 17, and the post-retrograde phase ends on March 1, 2022. Needless to say, it’s best to settle in and embrace the changes that this transit is about to bring, because it’s not ending anytime soon.

Venus, the planet of love and beauty, rules over pleasure, comfort, relationships, and artistic expression. It influences how you relate to and attract others. With this in mind, we can understand that Venus’ Station Retrograde in Capricorn will turn our relationships upside down as we reevaluate the way we commit to others and ourselves.

During Venus Retrograde in Capricorn, you may have a more no-nonsense approach to romance than usual. You have a list of criteria that need to be met, and you don’t have time or energy to mess around. It’s okay for your expectations to be high, but consider checking in to see if they are realistic. Is there anything you’re willing to compromise on?

On the other side of the spectrum, if your expectations are too low, Venus in Capricorn will push you to raise them so that you can attract a partner who is actually on your level. Now is the time to identify what you truly need from a relationship. If your current partner or dating pool isn’t meeting those needs (and isn’t willing to step up to the plate), then it’s time to value yourself enough to walk away.

All in all, Venus Retrograde will be the time for some deep soul-searching, so be prepared to get to know yourself (and your loved ones) on a whole new level.

Reflection Prompts

If you’re at all familiar with my work, you know I’m a huge fan of reflection prompts — so, of course, I’ve come up with a handful to help guide you through this transit. Each prompt is designed to coincide with themes illuminated by Venus’s Retrograde in Capricorn. Of course, you don’t have to use all (or any) of my prompts — if you’d like to come up with your own, the themes to focus on are commitment, values systems, romantic expectations and needs, and your relationship with solitude.

With all that being said, let’s get into the prompts!

Would you say your romantic expectations are realistic? Why or why not?

Journal about a time where you accepted less than you deserved in a relationship (romantic or platonic). What led up to this, and how did it make you feel? How would you handle this situation differently now?

In what ways have you matured since last year?

What is a new commitment you are willing to make to yourself (or your partner)?

Has your idea of what love and relationships mean changed over the past year? How so?

Where does Venus fall in your natal chart?

retrogrades: a guide

Do you know that feeling when you to have the illusion that the vehicle you are in is moving backwards in comparison to the vehicle on your side or vice versa? This illusion is very similar to retrogrades. Due to the different speed other planets are orbiting the Sun with, whenever they are parallel to the Earth, it seems as if those planets are moving backwards. However, this is just an illusion, as seen from Earth for a short period of time. As astrology is all about the details, this illusion has a significant impact on our energy, both collectively and individually.

How often do retrogrades happen & what do they mean collectively?

Think of retrogrades as a period when a planet becomes more introverted, so it expresses that energy in an inwardly focused way. These are times of introspection and planning. You take a break in that area of your life in order to asses before taking action. That's why, starting things during retrogrades might not be the best idea, as it will always make you turn back and reassess what you started anyway.

The Sun and the Moon are never in retrograde. Besides these, all the other planetary bodies do go retrograde. The further the planet is from the Sun, the less often retrogrades happening.

Mercury is the one that goes retrograde most often, about 3-4 times a year and it stays in that motion for about 3 weeks at a time. Mercury rules communication, short distance travel and technology, siblings. So whenever it goes retrograde, we are likely to experience delays or feel more introverted about these energies.

Venus goes retrograde every 18 months and usually stays retrograde for about 40 days. So, whenever Venus is retrograde, we might feel more shy in our love life, feel things moving slower in terms of money or even plan to redecorate our house.

Mars goes retrograde every 2 years and usually stays retrograde for about 70 days. Mars is a fiery planet, so when it goes retrograde, it might make us feel like that fire is within us, which can mean bottling up anger or building motivation.

Jupiter goes retrograde every 13 months, lasting for about 4 months. Jupiter is all about luck and abundance, also indulgence, so this can be a time when we manifest better with our own mind.

Saturn goes retrograde every 1 year and it lasts for about 4.5 months. Saturn means rules and lessons, so it being retrograde can show a time of self discipline.

Uranus goes retrograde every 1 year and stays for about 5 months. Uranus is all about spontaneity, rebelling against the world and activism. It going retrograde can mean we feel more called to asses what we stand for.

Neptune goes retrograde every 1 year and stays for over 5 months. Neptune rules imagination, dreams and addiction. We might feel like we are having more dreams, feeling inspired, but also foggy, lost, giving into addictions easier.

Pluto goes retrograde every 1 year for about 5-6 months. Pluto is all about fears and intensity, so it can mean having to deal with some traumas from the past in order to heal from it.

Considering the fact that retrogrades are an illusion, it might seem as if they are holding us back, making things move slower. When in reality, they are helping us asses what we avoided to deal with in the first place and help us grow - so at the end of the day we are still moving advancing trough inner work.

Were you born during retrograde?

Do not panic - it is more common to be born during at least one retrograded cycle than to be born during a period when there are no retrogrades. However, the energy in your chart is felt differently if that is the case. Here's what it means:

No planets in retrograde: I see this as a straightforward chart, the energy of the planets in your chart are all expressed outwardly and this is why retrograde transits might be really introspective times for you.

Born during Mercury retrograde - these people are really good at assimilating information and details, but might have a difficult time with expressing it outwardly. It's nothing impossible, it might just take a bit of practice to feel safe enough to show their rich inner world.

Born during Venus retrograde - these people are very resourceful and know how to use their skills to make money. They might be a bit introverted in terms of showing love or when faced with love from someone else, as they like to take their time and asses at first.

Born during Mars retrograde - these people have a lot of inner motivation and strength and even if they might not show it outwardly as directly as others, they have their own way of dealing with anger or conflict that works for them and helps them succeed on their terms.

*IMPORTANT: Planets from Jupiter to Pluto are not personal planets, so if you were born under these retrogrades, the things written below will be felt less than if you were born with Venus, Mars or Mercury in retrograde.

Born during Jupiter retrograde - these people are most likely to make their own luck, they seek to find meaning in life and to explore. If they put their mind to it, they can be great manifestos in terms of their spirituality. At the same time, outer abundance might come only after they figure out this inner meaning.

Born during Saturn retrograde - these people have their own set of rules and order in which they thrive. When someone invades this order, they might feel disturbed. The key here is not to change their order, but to learn to communicate their needs better.

Born during Uranus retrograde - these people are sure of what they believe in, they might get random sparks of ideas, but they might feel as if some of their ideas or interests are too "strange" for others to understand and might want to keep it to themselves.

Born during Neptune retrograde - these people are more sensitive in nature and prone to feel the hurt of the world, they are empathetic, but might find it difficult to express their feelings fully at times.

Born during Pluto retrograde - these people might deal with a lot of inner fears, but they are really good at hiding them and they usually enjoy doing inner work and finding the cause of the fears and past traumas alone.

Venus Retrograde in Capricorn

✨ 19th December 2021 - 29th January 2022

Venus going retrograde gives us the opportunity to reflect on our relationships, financial assets and self-worth. People might have trouble seeing the correct value of not only material things, but also themselves or their connections!

Do you know your worth? Or do you let others walk over you and use you? Now is a great time to take a step back and set new boundaries. Focus on self-love, rather than chasing old flings and seeking validation from elsewhere.

Venus Retrograde is known for bringing back exes and old lovers from the past. And many people easily fall into this ‘trap’. Remember that you have most likely left these people in the past for a reason. Do they really deserve your time now?

Any current relationships could be challenged by this retrograde. Communication is key here, so if you want your relationship to continue, make sure both parties involved have the same intentions and are going to put in equal amount of work and energy!

Since Venus is in Capricorn, we might also be challenged when it comes to our finances. What I recommend here is to make sure you are as organized as possible, keeping track of all your incomes and spendings. This is definitely not the time for reckless spending!!

And lastly, Venus is strongly connected to our appearance. Avoid dramatic last-minute changes (yes, this means fighting the urge to suddenly change your hair color or get a tattoo). Because what you think you like now might completely change once Venus is direct.

✨What to avoid:

Dramatically changing your appearance

Reconnecting with exes and friends who were left in the past for a reason

Reckless shopping, spending money you shouldn’t be spending

Don’t sell yourself short. Know your worth!

I wish you the best✨

Connecting with the sun and the moon ☼ ☽

I gathered a few exercises to strengthen my connection with the sun and the moon. They’re really simple, and pretty good for baby witches, too.

Having a basic connection with the sun and the moon is necessary in order to be in harmony with your surroundings. Before performing rituals related to the astros (which includes extensive astrology readings, wheel of the year rituals, and even gardening magic) you need to be somewhat tuned in with them.

Sensing the sun’s magic ☼

As you connect with the sun, you’ll gather the information necessary to best work with sun magic. This kind of information needs to come from you, cause it’s about how your energy interacts with the sun’s; different people may have completely different experiences. A good way to slowly build or fortify your connection with the sun’s magic is to gradually approach it and gain intimacy with it.

First contact: Take some time to meditate when the sun rises, at midday, when the sun sets, and at midnight. In each of those 4 moments, pause for a few minutes to observe the sun and to notice your surroundings. Practice being aware of the energy around you, and try to put it into words for reference. In the next day, take some time to compare the different sensations you had at each time, and try to figure out what they mean to you.

Establishing a connection ☼

This is a simple exercise that I do every time I feel like I need to renew my bond with the sun. A lot of people think it’s best to perform these type of exercises at noon, when the sun is at it’s peak, but I strongly advice against it if you have fair skin and/or live in a warm, tropical place. Being safe is more important and it’ll work much better if you’re actually comfortable. (And of course, use sunscreen if necessary.)

☼ Go outside, find a nice spot to sit in the sun, preferably around nature. Close your eyes. Feel the warmth on your skin, visualize the sunshine touching you as your body absorbs it’s energy.

☼ When you feel you’ve already formed a faint connection with your surroundings, imagine there’s a mist rising from the nature around you, like a fog of energy emanating from everything the sun touches.

☼ Take 3 deep breaths. Each time, visualize you’re inhaling some of that mist, and it’s filling your lugs and flowing through your entire body. Imagine you’re becoming one with your surroundings, and the mist’s energy is mixed with yours. When you exhale, let go of any thoughts that might be holding you back, let it wash away any negativeness that you might’ve been holding onto.

☼ Imagine your consciousness is connected to the sun, like the warmth is exchanging energy with your skin. Focusing on that, ask yourself: how does it feel? Is it energizing, or soothing? Or both? How does it affect your emotions? Do any thoughts pop into your head? Vague ideas? Try to put it into words. When you’re done, simply recollect yourself, and take some time later to digest what you might’ve felt and reach for conclusions.

Sensing the moon’s magic ☽

Just like with the sun, the information you’ll gather about the moon will reflect how your energy interacts with it, and different people may have completely different experiences. A good way to slowly build or fortify your connection is to gradually approach it and gain intimacy with it.

First contact: Take some time to meditate in 4 different nights; a new moon, a waxing moon, a full moon and a waning moon. In each of those moments, pause for a few minutes to observe it and to notice your surroundings. Practice being aware of the energy around you, and try to put it into words for reference. Afterwards, take some time to compare the different sensations you had each night, and try to figure out what they mean to you.

Establishing a connection ☽

I use the same exercise I do with the sun when I want to renew my connection with the moon. Each time, I approach it like it’s my first real connection with it; I’ve changed, so why wouldn’t my magic change? Since I’ve already meditated in 4 different phases of the moon like I said above, I choose a moment based on those experiences. A lot of people like to go with a full moon, but I personally love to work on forming connections on a waxing crescent. Each phase of the moon has it’s own strengths, and you can choose whatever feels right for you.
