jinyoung was nothing if not a very pensive, well-thought out person. he weighed all options with great care and reflection before making any decision, and because of such, he almost rarely debated if the choice he was making was the right one. so why now, of all times, was he trying to psyche himself out about this? 

there was not a single doubt in his mind about how he felt about you, so why was he so goddamn nervous? for what felt like an eternity, he had been standing outside the restaurant, pacing back and forth with a mildly annoyed expression on his face and the ring he was going to give to you bundled up in his fist. 

it was simple. all he had to do was march back in there, get down on one knee, and pop the question- what could you possibly say? no? he doubted it. sure, the two of you had never really had much of a discussion about getting married, but he was confident enough in how much you meant to each other that he went out and bought a ring to propose with. he paused for a moment and sighed to himself, opening his palm to reveal the slim silver band adorned with a simple diamond, and found himself staring at it. 

jinyoung thought in great detail before he bought it, about if you’d like it and how it’d look resting there on your finger. he rolled the cool silver between his fingers, running his teeth over his lower lip in thought. god, he was about to make you his for (hopefully) ever. that thought alone had somehow managed to carry him back into that restaurant and right up to your table.

you looked up from your food as you felt his presence, laughing casually as you cocked a brow at him, “what took you so long? you were in the bathroom forever,” you teased. 

he took his seat across from you, gaze fixated on your gorgeous features while he continued to fidget with the ring beneath the table. “sorry,” he flushed, offering a small nod of apology as he smiled a bit nervously at you. it felt like his heart was absolutely pounding in his chest at this point, despite already having a rather strong inclination towards what your answer would be. 

he seemed to avoid your gaze, pausing for a minute before he began to speak, “i.. i’ve been doing a bit of thinking, (y/n),” he started, slipping the ring up and down one of his own fingers as he thought out what to say next. 

“yeah…?” you laughed, getting nervous all on your own at the way he was acting right now. your boyfriend was almost always a fairly straightforward person, so why was he seeming to be beating around the bush now? was he breaking up with you?

it was so simple. all he had to do now was spit it out. looking up suddenly, jinyoung released a soft sigh, “i love you, (y/n). and i want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

you pressed your hand over your mouth in sheer surprise as you stared at him, tears brimming in your eyes as he got down on one knee and uttered those four words to you. 

“will you marry me?”
