The Dr Dolittle incident as a meme (Dimension 20's Unsleeping City)

In Dimension 20's Unsleeping City season 1, Zac Oyama and Ally Beardsley famously got derailed during a scene by a minor reference to the Eddie Murphy movie remix of Dr Dolittle, and it triggers them thinking about an entirely different Eddie Murphy movie remix, and the two of them absolutely crack up and it's hilarious. This incident has since been discussed by the cast in Dimension 20's Adventuring Party, in an episode of the A Crown of Candy season of Adventuring Party.

I have simply put these screenshots together in one place because I couldn't find them as images or put together as a meme anywhere on the internet, and that tickled my brain painfully until I made this post. A piece I’ve been sitting on for a long time, never felt quite finished but I’m pretty happy with it nonetheless. The scene in sophomore year of Adaine in the bubble was something that really stood out to me visually, so here it is!

Anyways where’s Buck’s panic attack when he wakes up and starts to do his checklist to make sure he’s not still in the coma dream and he can’t make sure Bobby’s alive because Bobby’s in a coma of his own?

Anyways where’s Eddie’s grief when he goes to check on Chris at 4am after the shift from hell only to remember why he closed the door to his kid’s room and hasn’t opened it in a month?

Anyways where’s the scene where Hen is talking to her lawyer and says “please Nia is my daughter?” And Karen sobs because she was she was she was and how have they ended up back here again?

Anyways where’s Chimney spiralling because for a second (just a second) Kevin never died, and then he lost him all over again. Felt that death all over again?

Anyways where’s Maddie stumbling once, when she feels the weight of the wedding rings on her finger, because it feels so much heavier when she remembers her first marriage?

Anyways where’s Bobby finally telling Buck about the reason he learned to cook and breaking down in tears?

Anyways where’s Athena watching the footage of Harry punching that man and only seeing Emmet’s face superimposed over her son, where’s Athena yelling at Harry and calling him Emmet by mistake because despite sharing no relation they can act so similarly?

Anyways where’s Christopher waking up from a nightmare about the tsunami and not being able to talk to his grandparents about it because they can’t possibly understand?

Anyways where’s Mara struggling because despite how kind Maddie and Chim are they aren’t her Moms?

Anyways where’s Denny’s anticipatory grief because he knows what it feels like to have siblings leave him too soon but he still got so emotionally involved with Mara because she’s different?

Anyways where’s Harry having night terrors from being kidnapped and wanting to talk to May about it but not wanting to interrupt her new life?

Anyways where’s May’s guilt over having hated Claudette right up until she died?

Anyways where’s the ripple effects of the trauma they’ve gone through?

would love it if helena and ramon call sophia and adriana to tell them chris is with them for the summer, expecting them to be like, “oh wow that’s great we’ll come by and see him.”

and instead they’re met with, “what the fuck? what happened to eddie is he okay?”

so when they tell sophia and adriana the story, the diaz sisters sit chris down and get him to talk. call eddie to check on him and apologize and commiserate about their parents. adriana makes sure to ask for his version of the story bc the diaz parents undoubtedly left stuff out. sophia gets chris to talk some more.

they remember shannon too, actually, and tell chris stories about her and eddie when they were friends first and then a couple. stories he’s never even heard. because shannon got along well with sophia and adriana, it was only their parents that had a problem with her.

a week later eddie comes home from work and all three of them are on his couch.

five years from now, I wanna see the Bad Kids as adults. In their twenties, figuring shit out for real.

I wanna see Gorgug quit teaching at Aguefort because he can't put up with Arthur's bulltshit. I wanna see him open up some kind of trade/technical school open to adults or concurrent Aguefort students, dedicated to making Artificing accessible.

I wanna see Riz working for the Society of Shadows on paper, but in actuality being undercover for The Celestial Rogue Service. I wanna see him living in Bastion City with a spare room that is always filled by one of his friends.

I wanna see Kristen running a religion that's so different from the one that raised her. I wanna see her embrace her messiness, fall in love with Tracker and Lucy and the women who come to Cassandra for ease in uncertainty.

I wanna see Fabian set sail, learn how to navigate by the stars. I wanna see him stop trying to write his name on the world, and instead hear his name in stories of rescue and kindness.

I wanna see Adaine settle into her role as Oracle, and know how to tell why people come to her for readings. I wanna see her recognize the anxiety of their questions, and give them directions to the nearest Temple of Cassandra instead of answers.

I wanna see Fig write music she cares about, and show Ayda all the ways love manifests. I wanna see her proudly boast about being the only Archdevil to also be a paladin, to direct lost souls to the goddess of conviction.

I wanna see the Bad Kids as grown-ups, confident, and being called on to save the world together again.

Characters I think they should play if they do a public domain season:

Lou - Mickey Mouse (I wanna hear him do a silly voice again)

Siobhan - Robin Hood (I wanna see Siobhan play a rogue)

Zac - The Headless Horseman (this would absolutely be bit city)

Ally - Pre-ghosts Scrooge (Ally playing a grumpy old man? delightful)

Murph - After he realizes he's gone too far Dr. Jekyll

Emily - Mr. Hyde (Emily getting to be chaotic and Murph having to pick up the pieces would be 👌)

I'm picturing that the public domain is an actual domain and when characters become public domain, they're dumped their and have to figure out their life.

Do I know why they're together in this domain? No.

Would it be funny? Yes.

Oh, shit. Was Porter originally planning to make the Bad Kids his minions, when they made it into the cafeteria first? But Aguefort intervened??

Gorgug was a barbarian (rage!), Kristen was the literal chosen one of a solar god, a solar cleric just like Buddy, and they were dead and prime candidates to get rage-crystaled! BRENNAN WHAT THE HELL.

Five years??? I've done a long game with players but that's got me beat by three quarters of a year!!

I just started watching Dimension 20’s Fantasy high, halfway through sophomore year, and I do want a fic where people realise just how used to being part of a group the bad kids are. For example-

-I fully believe every single one of them is used to Riz climbing them so he can see better. It’s usually Gorgug, but it’s happened to all of them at some point. They might hold out their arm for him to jump onto a counter, or so he can pin a clue to his board. Before they all sit at a table, at least one of them makes sure their 4’4 friend can jump onto the table.

-Every single one of them has also caught Adaine after she had a vision. Sometimes she can just shake them off, but the big ones make her falter in what she’s doing, which can be dangerous. It happened once in a fight, and now the people standing closest to her are always ready.

-Fabian doesn’t really recognise he has a blind spot with his eye injury, because the others immediately clocked it. But this also means they walk in between him and the road, in case some idiot mounts the curb. They keep an eye on anything to his right, shifting drinks and pushing chairs if they can tell his depth perception is a little off.

-Fig usually stands in the middle of the group to intimidate people into not messing with them, so it’s sort of become habit to just crowd around her. After the battle, if no one’s seriously hurt or anything, everyone just wanders over to Fig. At this point, Fig is always the first one to yell out after a fight, just so they can regroup.

-Gorgug is the go-to for lap-sits, leaning, anything to do with being physically supported by another persons body. His hoodie is soft, and his headphones are loud enough that you can kind of hear it if your leaning on him. His parents weren’t great with nonchalant physical contact, in case he was already upset, so he takes great joy in his friends not being scared to hug him for fun.

-Kristin has left her staff at every single house she could with the bad kids. She leaves her bag in classrooms, the library, the cafeteria. Whenever the group leave somewhere, they do a full scan, because Kristin has probably left something and they grab it for her. No one has any clue who her bag actually belongs to, because all of the bad kids have been seen carrying it around school several times.

The school at large know who the bad kids are, and the town recognise them, but they still don’t know why all of them double check a room before leaving, or collectively carry a small stool around with them. One student with a fantasy iron deficiency faints in class and Kristin catches her before she hits the ground. Once, Fig isn’t in school for a day and all the bad kids have this restless energy about them. It is not uncommon to see them on the field during lunch, curled up in a pile on Gorgug. One guy tries to surprise Fabian from the right and gets body checked by Adaine before it even registers.

It’s sort of uncomfortable for everyone to see any of them without the others, because it means a) the rest of them committed a crime, b) the rest of them are committing a crime, or c) the rest of them are about to run in and start planning to commit a crime. And no one wants to lose their plausible deniability here.

Obsessed with firefighter Evan Buckley asking his firefighter boyfriend who is on call for his firefighter job “Where’s the fire?” when he needs to leave suddenly.

I think the moral of Fantasy High is that when a teenage girl says there’s something hinky about one of her male teachers you should always always believe her
