The first Sailor Moon musical, Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen, premiered on August 11, 1993.

This musical (and its revision) were the only musicals in which the characters of Luna and Artemis appeared.

At approximately one hour and seventeen minutes in run time (counting the curtain calls), this was the shortest musical. 

Until Sailor Moon Crystal aired, this was the only Sailor Moon canon in which the Inner Senshi and the Shitennou were established to have been couples in the Silver Millennium.

Why I do think the 30th anniversary is going to be...not good?

Short answer: It's Nelke/post 2005

Detailed answer: Yes even so I expect nothing, 0.00! Since 2013 6/7 productions were more than disappointing. Don't think I am one of these people who dislike stuff just because it's new. NogiMyu e.g. is fine: I'm not a fan of the second act and or all cast members but it's the best Nelke production so far.

Cast: Again not everyone is bad. Of course not... Nevertheless I have the feeling they rather cast models instead of actresses. I read often comments in the past like: "OMG. She looks literally like Sailor XYZ" or "She looks like real life Sailor XYZ". Ok, looks is not enough since this is a musical and not a fashion show. Acting, singing and dancing (and be able to do this at once) are far more important than looking like Sailor XYZ climbed out of the manga/anime.

Costumes (sailor fukus): Take a closer look at these costumes and please don't try me to tell these are high qualitiv. They are 100% polyester which means - it is simply plastic. The ones that look like cheap halloween costumes for kids from the super market.

Plot (with view in the past) - retelling of the already thin manga stories in the most boring way possible with no essential changes or improvement. It starts promissing but after 20-30 minutes they start complaining how bad everything goes bc the villans attacks...for the rest of the show... Everytime!

music: Kaguya Hime no Koibito got worse at this point. 2013-2017 had 2-3 nice songs per musical but this time? Not a single descent piece of music. Even the melodies went from "elevator music" to "something tootles in the background but I'm not sure what it is."

Nelke and the generell vibe: The musicals were profitable from the start but back then it feels more special that this anime/mange made not to one musical but a 12 years running muscial series. It feels like it was made with heart and have the curtain something! The todays musicals have the vibe to be a short-lived mass production before they go on and make another cold short-lived stage play based on a random anime/manga.

Some last words: There is no need to change: There are enough fans who like and will support these shows thus Sera Myu remains profitable. This and the points above is why I come to the conclusion that nothing will change in this anniversary special. Since I really dislike (minus NogiMyu) the Nelke musicals I am sure that I am going to dislike this show as well.
