LISTENED FOR HOURS: Even though they had played together in First Arsch, Richard Z. Kruspe had to work hard to convince Till Lindemann to join his new musical project, especially as a singer. «I made my living as a basket weaver in Schwerin. From time to time I drummed with some punk bands for fun. Richard is an old friend of mine. My voice has always inspired him. I always sang loud at work, and he listened for hours. One day he brought tapes of new, super hard songs and told me to sing along. At first I didn’t feel like it, because I didn’t want to go to Berlin,» Lindemann told Bravo. «Richard talked to me for three days. Finally, he convinced me.»

We’ve had the opportunity to talk about Emigrate twice before, but you never said that Till Lindemann was involved in the beginning of this project!
Richard: Well, yes, because it is about very early beginnings. We didn’t start the Emigrate project then, we just wanted to do something together. We both had the idea that we could do something that wasn’t Rammstein. When the rest of the band found out they weren’t happy about it. I understood this, so I decided to continue my business on my own.
