My thoughts on episode XCIX of Samurai Jack Warning: Spoilers
Ok, so all you Samurai Jack fans probably saw the latest episode. Spoiler alert: Jack and Ashi get together. Jashi is canon. Well, they kissed so it’s probably canon. Anyway, based on posts I saw it seems like everyone either hated or loved it because of Jashi. Now, I’m not a huge fan of the ship, I’m pretty neutral, but some of the reasons why fans hate it is a bit confusing to me.
One main reason I think a lot of people don’t like the ship is because of the age gap. Now, if you ship Rose x Greg or Aang x Katara, that’s a bit hypocritical. Jack is around 50 years older than Ashi, but Aang is less than 100 years older than Katara and who knows how big the age gap between Rose and Greg are. He’s probably less than a sperm cell in comparison to how old Rose is. However I think, and I might be wrong, why people don’t like Jashi is because they might have been wanting a more father daughter relationship or student teacher relationship between the two. That’s what I was kinda hoping but oh well.
Another reason some fans don’t seem to like it is because of how inexperienced both of them are. Well, that might not be the right phrasing but both of them are kinda clueless when it comes to romance. I mean, Ashi lived her whole life in a cave and Jack spent his whole life training to defeat Aku and fighting villains. I guess the ship is kinda cute seeing how they both have been training to defeat someone and they can kinda relate to each other I guess. And it was funny how flustered Jack got, but that’s understandable. Like I said, I’m pretty neutral on the ship. If they do stay together, it will affect what will Jack do in future episodes. Will he go back to past and defeat Aku? If he does, then Ashi probably won’t exist. Who knows? Anyway, that’s just my two cents of the whole thing. I’m really curious to see how everyone else interprets it.
