On Tour And Birthday

On Tour and Birthday

because we're back from singing in Canada. and because it's mine, and Anthony Green's, and Euler's, and Emma Watson's, and taxes' birthday. also it's been a century since that one ship went down.

anyways, I'm 18 today. It's a little bit scary. Almost nothing went as planned, really, but the thing is it didn't matter because I got to spend it with people who make me happy. Even if I'm was kind of asleep. Especially if, actually. And tomorrow I get to dress shopping with more people I love dearly and then I fly away to Boston and such.

Tour was chill this year, in that it was fairly short but I wasn't unhappy about that fact. We sang beautifully, proved that the quality of Meisters isn't dependent on how much we travel, and if nothing else had a barrel of fun. I talked to a lot of people I don't see very often, and I really appreciate the vast majority of them. Also we built a fort. It was entitled The Sex Fort. Clearly everyone wanted to be us. Just kidding, kind of. Also I refuse to sing on a bus if people are actually attempting to sound good. But give me a violent, yelling rendition of something Disney (almost) any day. I've thoroughly enjoyed getting to be a part of leading our choir this year.

Everyone should get lost every so often. It's good for you. Sometimes it's hard to not just get crazy mushy and bittersweet on here because there are people and places I'm really going to miss. BUT ANYWAYS since imma ignore that for as long as I can I shall just say I am one lucky girl. And thanks, guys.

I'm definitely feeling the space love tonight. Guys just look at this. In it's large hi-def form. The world is kind of amazing.

This Is What The Death Of A Star Really Looks Like

This Is What the Death of a Star Really Looks Like

This is the best, the most detailed and clearest image of a dying star yet, according to NASA. Pause for a few seconds, expand the image, and really look at it. Imagine all that unstoppable fire in motion, like a real version of the Death Star explosion, but a gazillion times bigger.

Imagine the shockwave that shaped those huge balls of plasma in action. Imagine the roar you would never hear in space. It’s simply amazing—magnificent destruction.

Now look at it again and think about this: what you are seeing is not its end yet. This star—the larger sister in the Eta Carinae binary system—is only dying now. It’s not dead yet (or, at least, we haven’t seen its death yet). This is not its final song, just a last angry outburst that was first observed in the 19th century.

Very soon—in astronomical terms very soon may mean a million years—this incredible image will be nothing compared to what’s coming next. A real supernova of such proportions that it will shine much brighter than any other star in firmament.

The Advanced Camera for Surveys High Resolution Channel in the Hubble will not be around when this happens, but our descendants will hopefully be here and will be able to see it in much better detail. “Expect an impressive view from Earth,” says NASA.

I wish I could stay here that long. [NASA Goddard Flickr]

...which is strange, as a physics book written in comic sans would be quite close to our definition of hell.

Cracked, man. Cracked just doesn't stop making me love it.

On MIT

okay guys. it's going to be hard, but I'm going to try to only say this once. and I think the most appropriate time to do so is now, when it's 4:00 am, I just got back to my dorm, I'm too sick to actually talk, I met more people than I can count today, I have to catch a taxi in two hours anyways, I'm covered in weird dust and I'm bleeding kind of much.

ahem

This place is going to be my home. And I'm so happy about it.
