This is one of the most beautiful story I've ever read... I've always been fascinated in arranged marriage trope and this definitely did not disappoint me at all. The chapters are sooo beautifully written, the writer is really talented. Everybody needs to read this series <33

A/N: I came across Dead Stars by Paz Marquez Benitez again recently (a 1925 short story written in English and a classic in Philippine literature), and I was reminded of how I’ve always wanted to capture a fraction of the essence of that story ever since I read it in high school. But I sort of flipped it on its head and came up with this! My hand also slipped so lots of things happen. And given that I finished watching Business Proposal before I started writing and since I have no knowledge of the food production industry or the corporate world in general, several terms and elements were taken from that show (but it’s a completely different story). So please, don’t mind the inaccuracies! Jin has also been a menace 😈 recently so this was incredibly fun and satisfying to write. I hope you enjoy! 🥰🥰

"Yeah, that's what I'm saying. You gotta be careful with that." Namjoon explains, as Taehyung nods. Recently, his girlfriend had been hospitalized for appendicitis - something she simply mistook at first for simple period cramps until she got worse during the night.

"Yeah, honestly, I thought she just had some period pains, too. You know." Taehyung shrugs. "They must be horrible if she mistakes that for, you know, her organ failing." He mumbles a bit upset now as Namjoon nods.

"I've heard of women mistaking a heart attack for period cramps before. Even doctors make that mistake constantly." He shrugs.

Meanwhile, Jungkook is completely shocked. He always thought that girls were simply more sensitive than men and just couldn't handle pain that well- but appendicitis? He remembers when Yoongi had to be hospitalized years back. That man had been doubled over in pain.

He instantly calls you a few minutes after the discussion. "Babe?" He asks, and you answer.

"Yeah? Something wrong?" You wonder. You're currently at home, and he knows you're on your period.

"You don't-" He starts, before switching languages. "You're sure you're not sick right? Just period?" He asks. You laugh.

"Yeah?" You wonder. "Why?"

"Just wondering.." he mumbles. "Heart fine? No pain?" He asks, while driving home to you.

"Jungkook what are you on about?" You laugh now, cringing when you cramp a little.

"Taehyung's girlfriend has appendicitis, and she mistook it for her period until it ruptured. It RUPTURED, babe, and she still thought it was nothing!" He whines in the back of the car, still not over the whole ordeal.

"Yeah, doctors mistake heart attacks and stuff too." You shrug at home.

"Now I'm terrified of your periods." He mumbles, and you laugh.

"Jungkook, I could've helped you out way earlier." You say gently, sitting next to him as he sighs with his face in his hands. Your palm is running over his back, and its supposed to soothe, but all it does is make him feel horribly guilty.

He's the man in this relationship. He should be the leading role, the protector, the one who's helping you and not the other way around.

Instead, he's now about to be evicted from his way too expensive apartment, having shamefully admitted to you that he's going to need a place to stay soon.

Quitting his job maybe meant freedom for a short while, but it also meant no income, and by now, he feels utterly lost. He's got no work experience, nothing he wants to do. There is nothing he believes he's good at. He never planned for anything past his old occupation. Now he just feels lost.

"Well, no use in crying over spilled milk!" You suddenly say, jumping up and grabbing your comfort plush- a new one he's not seen you carry around before.

"What?" He wonders, no tension or motivation in his body at all.

"You said they're gonna be there end of the week. So let's go pack then!" You say, determined.

"But- I-" He stammers, unsure. He doesn't really like the idea of you helping him. Not that he doesn't want you in his apartment, but he doesn't want you to feel like you have to clean up the mess he made all by himself.

"If you don't wanna live in my tiny apartment long term that's cool, we can search for something once you've found a new job. Until then, I'm gonna make some space in my closet for you, no problem!" You simply squeak, putting on your boots, before you bring him his own shoes

"How can you be so calm about this?" He asks, genuinely confused as he looks at you with his ears all droopy and upset. "I've failed as a mate. As a boyfriend." He tells you.

"You didn't, kookie. Not at all." You say, climbing into his lap to hug him, before you nuzzle against his cheek. "You were simply being silly. Asking for help isn't weak or bad, it's totally okay. But you're still learning that." You explain.

He feels like crying. You're too sweet for him.

"I shouldn't have to learn it. I'm an adult. I should know all of this- but then the first rent failed, and then the second, and suddenly I was behind so much and-" he rambles, while you're holding onto him.

"It all became too much?" You finish for him, and he nods into your shoulder, quietly holding onto you as well. "Thats okay. It happened, and now we're gonna work with what we have." You reassure him.

"But I've got nothing." He complains.

"You've got me?" You squeak almost offended, looking at him. "You can rely on me, Jungkook. You don't have to do things solely yourself to claim the reward of the success later on."

His hands can't help but find the sides of your face, knuckles gently running over your soft skin, before he leans in for a kiss.

"I love you." He whispers, almost with no voice at all.

But you hear him, loud and clear.
