SO this is what the Voxes: Stimulant Overture was before i remembered copyright laws existed and i couldn’t actually cover tuc’s opening like i wanted to LMAO. i’m still v happy with how it turned out but i thought ppl might like to hear the original version! a few of my little headcanons for the junior champions of nyc

the new york islanders won four consecutive stanley cup titles in the 1980s and langston can and will recite the player lineups for you if you stand still long enough.

al’s favorite stuffed animal is a lion that ana and amelia gave her because it looks like the lions outside the library where her mom works. orlando and rovias helped her name it; al calls the stuffed animal “rosaline.”

cat’s middle name is emma, for em.

langston brown - son of a black father and latinx mother and hatched from an egg covered in graffiti - absolutely loves miles morales. spider-man is his favorite superhero.

one of the first spells al learns is find familiar, so the matsui-sinclair family has two dogs now.

cat’s dad may not be an angel anymore, but he was when it mattered and she’s still got a little inherent celestial magic in her. it manifests, as it did before she was born, in physical invulnerability. it would be weird for a kid to never scrape their knee or bruise their elbow, so sofia and dale have to teach her how to fake minor injuries so non-magical folks don’t get suspicious, which ultimately ends up with cat treating colorful band-aids like accessories. cat always has a band-aid stuck to her somewhere visible, and it’s not uncommon for her to get multiple boxes of neon colored or cartoon character band-aids for her birthday (usually from uncle pete).

langston is obsessed with photography. they are physical memories, windows to the past, ways to enhance a story being told. he’s one of those kids who loves going through his own baby album and asks his parents to tell him about each photo; he will sit on his grandfather’s lap for hours going through an old scrapbook from when kingston was a boy. uncle pete buys him a polaroid camera for his birthday one year and makes sure he never runs out of film.

al takes ricky’s “you don’t have to be good” to heart and loves to try new things, in a way that makes ricky and esther incredibly proud. al is not afraid of failure nor is she intimidated by not being good at something right away. does it mean that they have to sit through some truly terrible piano recitals for a year or two? yes, yes it does. does it also mean that al loves to draw even though she’s not that great at it, but she doesn’t really care because she enjoys doing it? absolutely. (uncle pete has the first picture she drew for him framed on the wall of the bookstore.) 

between sofia taking on kugrash’s totems and being first fist of a cockroach monastery, la gran gata always protecting her, and her father’s love of the deer in the backyard, i think cat ends up being a druid. cat likes animals! her name is an animal! she ends up taking on the mantle of kugrash’s totems from her mom when she’s older, one of her wild shapes is a deer for her dad, and her monk parents teach her how to meditate so she can communicate with kugrash, too. (she also likes that she can heal; it’s weird that her friends can get hurt and she can’t.)

(later, when langston knows and understands not only who he is but what he is, and he’s trying to get comfortable with his dragon form, cat will wild shape and al will cast polymorph on herself so they can all be non-humans together for a bit.)
