Put me out of my misery. Is the phone call real?

This has been driving me mad.

I saw this really thought-provoking post on the DE subreddit: Was the phone call with the Ex-Something real, or was it just created by the Pale?

As the original poster says, there are explicit mentions of Dora in the Pale. Does that mean the long-distance call isn't real?

Evidence that it is not real:

The Pale can cause "'entroponetic crosstalk. The one you get in radios and long-distance calls.'"

It can also result in hearing "'the voice of your former lover.'"

We have heard fake calls before, as we do with Tricentennial Electrics in the Doomed Commercial Area.

The number is unusually long, even for a long-distance call.

It seems strange that she would give Harry her new number.

It's also strange that, no matter when you call, she has just woken up. It is always the same time.

Evidence that it is real:

She does not want to talk to us.

She is with someone else.

(Of course, this could be Harry's imagination.)

She responds to whatever we say. For better or for worse.

To be honest, it never even occurred to me that the call might not be real. I need to know now. What do you think?

Logic identifying a handful of skills as 'nice helpful guys' is everything to me (fyi, this list includes savoir faire, perception, visual calculus, inland empire, and volition! the bad ideas are from drama and pain threshold lmao)

Logic is also not here to make you feel better! He's responsible for 10 instances of morale damage (the highest is Inland Empire with 11) and most of them are him telling you you're stupid!

Physical instrument can call you a bad, lazy detective btw and you don't lose morale. I guess Harry thinks highly of Logic's opinion. At least on *detecting*.

Basically this Harrier will be more competent, more like. Sad? Reserved? Very, very, very repressed? He doesn’t do drugs or alcohol and works himself to the bone. He’s an asshole to Kim at the very beginning… but when he gets to know Kim he attaches in the same way that regular Harry does. So yeah! A sad but not drunk amnesiac on a spacecraft being consumed by the coral/pale. Also there are aliens trying to kill them both
