spot on! knowing anakin's story as a tragedy and watching the prequels knowing what he's going to become, there was no other way for it to end. in that sense, he was locked onto that route. but that's not the angle that a lot of people view this story with.
they view anakin as a person but they don't grant him the agency of one. they recognise he is locked into this set of circumstances and blame the jedi for his inability to act against it.
i've seen a lot of comments that go "obi-wan and ahsoka are the only good jedis" or something along those lines, like the jedi order deserved what they got as a form of retribution, spare obi-wan and ahsoka. and it becomes clear to me that people who say this don't know the jedi. they know obi-wan. they know ahsoka. they know anakin and assume these three are the only good guys in the order, because sometimes it really feels like that's how anakin sees it and (i assume) they view the story from his POV.
but if you read enough star wars media, especially the ones featuring other members of the order, it's so obvious that the jedi ARE good. overwhelmingly so.
anakin not wanting to adhere to the code and instead dreaming of getting married and having a family is not their fault. palpatine finding that out, exploiting that attachment, and manipulating him to turn to the dark side is not their fault.
(jedi are even allowed to leave the order if they want! he could have left and had a happily ever after in naboo! theoretically, that is. i'm sure good old palps will find a way to fuck that up too.)
i think the cruel theme in the prequels is that the jedi were right. fear—anakin's fear—DID become the path to the dark side. his fear did lead to anger. his anger did lead to hate. and that hate led to his suffering. for all their wisdom, they weren't able to foresee this. because i think, despite the growing rift between the council and anakin, they trusted him enough to do the right thing. to choose the right decision.
instead, he put himself and his family over literally everyone in the order. everyone. every single master, knight, padawan, youngling. he took part in the slaughter himself. he chose that.
the jedi can hardly be blamed for their own genocide, even if they are as arrogant as some people think they are.
and it's understandable why you don't interact with the Outside Fandom. there's so much misunderstanding (the attachment issue comes to mind! why is it still so prevalent!?) of the jedi it's exhausting to read and argue about it. and you didn't come off too strong, don't worry ^^
i'm in my quaint little circle on tumblr so i easily forget not everyone loves the jedi order, but once i step out of it--
how can someone watch order 66 being executed and go yep. the jedi deserved this. all this death and genocide is exactly what this group of people had coming.
like that is not at ALL the point of the prequels. the jedi council were not without their faults but let's also face that it was ultimately anakin who made the decision to turn to the dark side and SLAUGHTER them all, even the younglings.
that last part can be debated, because palpatine was definitely manipulating him and it can be argued that because of that he never really got a choice in the matter, but still, to see that people blame the order is aarghghhhguehsnfje
