I Miss You

Summary: Mammon x gn! Reader You kissed Mammon from the past. But he's not your Mammon, is he?

CW: angst, nightbringer era, nightbringer brief spoilers, but it's an early chapter so do with that what you will, short, but you know, when angst strikes it strikes

You slammed the front door to Cocytus hall behind you and collapsed to the floor, burying your face into your knees. You shouldn't cry. You weren't supposed to be attaching yourself to this version of the brothers anyway, so really it was all your fault.

This was not your Mammon.

No matter how much he looked and acted like him, he wasn't yours and could never be yours. But your heart aches without your lover by your side.

You hadn't realized how dependent you had grown on his presence, how much you needed to be in his arms at night, how much you looked to him for joy in darker moments, how much his hijinks were a comfort, until it was ripped away from you and you were faced with a stranger with his face and mannerisms.

You knew exactly what had just gone wrong. You looked back now, and it all played out in slow motion.

“Why do you care?”

“Because I love you, you idiot.”

You had the conversation all the time back in your time. He'd fish for love confessions, or genuinely lose himself in his self doubts, and you'd have to remind him of your love.

It was so normal. So easy to forget that this was a different person.

But he wasn't really a different person, was he?

It would have been far easier on you if he was.

And you'd kissed him.

“What was that?”

God, you'd just gotten so lost in that familiar atmosphere, so pulled in by who, in all things but a few memories, was your boyfriend, you'd completely forgotten.

“Ew, Mammon and the attendant are canoodling!”

“Shut up Levi! The attendant lost control around the Great Mammon, that's all!”

You choked back a sniffle. Your chest ached, your stomach was in knots, and you just wanted to go home.

“Ah, Y/N! You're home!” You heard Solomon's voice call to you from down the hallway.

Home. This wasn't home. Home was with Mammon. How could Solomon seem so at ease here? Surely he had people he missed just as much as you!

“I made some poison apple pie for dinner,” he only just now realized that you were sitting on the floor, only an inch away from the front door. He stared in concern for a moment, before he opened his arms.

You choked out a sob, standing up and haphazardly throwing yourself into his arms.

He rubbed your back gently, as you sobbed into his shoulder. You don't know how long you stood like that, taking comfort in the one person who remembered you, but eventually you were able to finally say what was on your mind.

“I really miss him.”

Solomon's arms tightened around you.

“I know.”
