Wolf in sheep's clothing

I think I have made a new charcater I really like and I have recently finished Mothflights vision and It is now one of my favorite books and I really like how the names of the characters are immediately given to them like Honey pelt and not just Honeykit and stuff. Enjoy ShadowsBlizzard She is supposed to be more gray blue but there is only so much you can do with coloured pencils so ye may do a digital piece of her in the future!

Day 21 is a friendly little vampire squidmaid! She’s appeared in a portfolio piece in the past. Be careful as you approach, she may try to hug you without considering all her teeth. I was messing around with masking fluid again (I learned it’s not as good with ink because the mistakes are harder to fix) and I tore the paper, so I decided to go in with the rubbish novelty pencils again and see where their limits really are! I still think they hold up surprisingly well? Don’t let cheap materials hold you back kids.

I forgot to upload the rest of my mermaids! I got super-busy towards the end of May, so I’m afraid I only managed 28 in the end. I’ll finish the final three when I have time, but these are the last ones drawn during May. I did have another go at the coralmaid, like I promised! I’m sort of pleasantly surprised by my own work for this challenge, more of them turned out well than I ever expected! Did any of you manage all 31 mermaids? Did you have fun?

Over Christmas the Sunday School children made some paper angels to decorate the church, and I thought it would be fun to try to interpret them literally.
The first one is based on small angels they made to decorate the cross, they had wings but no arms, and halos but no faces.
The middle two are based on a huge angel Gabriel, which was 5 massive pieces of black paper in a sort of windmill shape, covered in stars and googly eyes. He also had a halo with no face. I thought, best case scenario this is a human-shaped star field, worst case it’s a sort of hole in reality filled with eyes.
The final one was based on chatting to the parish priest about how angels are described in the Bible. There’s a lot of eyes and wheels involved.
I’d quite like to work these up into a series of paintings, I think? These were all done with crayola pencils on printer paper because I was at my parents’ house. I’d also like to try and animate the final one, in my mind it was spinning.

2002 vs. 2022
Last year I came across a set of season fairies that I drew when I was still in school. They were the first art I ever posted online and were the best I could do at the time. Since it had been exactly 20 years, I decided to redraw them and see the difference. I tried to retain some elements from the original set; each fairy is facing the same way and has a similar outfit and colour scheme. In 2002 I used coloured pencils because that was my standard medium for colour, so I did the redraw in watercolour because that's become my standard medium over time. (Maybe I'll redraw one in coloured pencil too.) Autumn is first because I drew her first back then! It was my favourite season. Autumnal fairies are still the kind I draw most, so the Autumn fairy was probably the easiest.
Winter is the one I changed most because she had a definite Christmas vibe in the original, which I remember being unintentional. (At the time I just couldn't think of any Winter plants other than evergreens.) I tried to make the new one match what I was aiming for in the past, rather than what I managed to draw.
Spring flowers are all very low-growing, so I moved the Spring fairy down to the ground. I'm really pleased with the mist effect in the background and how closely I was able to match the old colour scheme.
Finally, Summer! This one was interesting, I absolutely hated the season as a child (I had fair skin, light-sensitive eyes and debilitating hayfever) and I have strong memories of just bashing this one out to complete the set, so I had to figure out if there even was a flower that matched those generic 'flower' shapes I drew in the original. I hadn't tried very hard at the time, but in hindsight I thought her pose was more interesting than the others, so I tried to retain things like the bent legs by hooking them round the flower stem. She's also the one whose character design changed the least. I'm still not a huge fan of the season but I think the updated illustration might even be my favourite in the set.
Maybe I'll make some prints of these or some Redbubble products?

A while ago I dug out a teeny tiny notebook (only 6.5x10.5cm) I'd never finished and started drawing in it. I remember I bought this book in 2017 while in a slump, hoping it would make me want to draw more, which didn't work but I did suddenly feel like using it last year.
The mushrooms are from 2022, but squint at the dates and you'll see there was a 5-year gap between drawing and colouring the lionfish mermaid because I sketched her in 2017.
i love having free will to draw whatever i want
