Fr. I like Hayley, I think she's a good character and I acknowledge all of her wrongs (the killing of the twelve hybrids and the massacre of the witches, etc), but Phoebe's characterization is just poor.
She's a decent actress: the whole fight back scene with Klaus, Hope's birth, running from Elijah's red door version, bla, bla. But the more I watch The Originals, the more her acting is just untouching for me.
Her death scene made me cry the first time I watched it, but now it's just... uh. I know we were supposed to know/understand she was turning off her humanity while she was dying, but it was really strange. Her expressions just don't go with the scene. It's rare, and though I still find the scene sad, it’s not the same anymore for me.
And as you said, when she acts with people like Daniel, Claire, Joseph or such, it’s really clear she just doesn't know how to really act. Her facial expressions are all the same, and I feel people just ignore that because Phoebe is clearly beautiful.
As a matter of a fact, the only character of Phoebe I have seen is Hayley, so perhaps is just Hayley the one that wasn't good represented and I'm being too harsh.
I like Hayley, and I like Phoebe, and I like -sometimes- her acting. That's all.
rewatching TO and I really mourn the potential Hayley had, specially as Jackson wife/alpha. they could really go deep in the Andrea Labonair ™ storyline before season 4/5, but absolutely not. let's make haylijah against instead who tf cares anyway she was better with Jackson, was the first time Hayley had some nuance in the originals
It does not helps that, although they really tried to make it work to her, Phoebe Tonkin have absolutely two emotions and that's it. Most of Hayley's lack of appeal in most scenes it's due the fact the actress playing her does not have range. She has the same face when she's angry, when she's thought, when she's trying make the man in her life feel better or be better (why she's being used to placate Jackson's anger or to be Elijah's nightmare or to give Klaus a pep talk whenever he needs?) or even when she's supposed to be horny. And it's not like she does not have great performances as Hayley, she does, but those are so rare during seasons, such as Hope's birth or Jackson's death, her own death in season 5 and guess that's it.
Another actress could actually make Hayley work just fine. She was good in the vampire diaries because that was the attitude required to play the character Hayley was supposed to be in TVD but in TO she should be mature, an actual adult woman with actual conflicts and war back and forth, protecting a child, being in a marriage and in a relationship with a thousand years old vampire. She's none of those. Maybe Hayley is not even a Mary Sue or something, she just poorly acted and directed. She's surely well written. Her storyline, in my personal opinion, makes it perfect sense. But, Jesus... I'm struggling with the acting so bad.
It's worse when she's paired with an actress like Leah Pipes or the scenes she had with Charles Michael Davis, Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies itself. I love Phoebe, i think she's great, she was amazing in previous works, she had great performances outside The Originals. Hayley's portrait was the problem.

Klaus took an interest on Cami way long before she did, if he didn't stay away why would she, Hayley fell in love with Elijah probably the first month of her pregnancy and Klaus and Hayley never looked at each other romantically, not to talk about the fact that it's canon she was scared of him in s1

Marcel deserved so much better. He got groomed, continually received an awful treatment just because he didn't share their blood, was murdered and seen constantly as an "enemy" of the very same family who raised him
Or else what? I mean we're family right. Why would this little serum have to change anything, other than the simple fact that I would be your equal. Oh, yeah, I figured you could never live with that.
If we suspend reality as Julie often does and somehow Elijah was the one having a magical kid , how do you think would the storyline go? What would be the changes
I think Elijah would be terrified.
As we have seen in the series, he basically is his siblings parent (it really bothers me that this is only "acknowledged" in the last episode and barely at that) so raising a child wouldn't be something he wouldn't know how to do. He is loyal to the ones he loves and clearly loves his family more than he loves himself.
Bringing a child, especially his own child at that, into the toxic codependent mess that the Mikaelson are would for sure mess up with him. Elijah would be skeptical at first because vampires cannot procreate and all that stuff, but this show isn't known for having a consistent canon so let's ignore it, but he wouldn't react at all the way Klaus did with Hayley's pregnancy. Once he has a way to make sure the kid is 100% his, his demenaour would without a doubt change.
I'm not really sure if Elijah wouldn't see this magical baby as the salvation of his family. We all know he saw that in Hope and he never really saw her as her own person until s5, where she was a teenager who could express herself and stuff. But again, this is his child, someone who is gonna need him for everything half of their life and someone who is gonna be dependent on him.
And that, without a doubt, would drive him away from his obsession with Klaus's redemption, basically the 90% of his character.
Elijah would be forced to drop Klaus or hit him until his baby brother agrees to not kill his child because as I said in one of my posts, Klaus wouldn't approve of his siblings loving someone more than they loved him. It would be an interesting turn in his character, because Elijah was obssesed with redeeming Klaus for his whole life (and that never happened, Hope was the one Klaus loved the most but he was never redeemed). And as we've seen in The Originals, Elijah has prioritized his niece over his brother so imagine that with his own kid.
He would form a bond with the mother of his child way more quickly than klayley did, they would be family and Elijah wouldn't be nearly as possessive over his child the way Klaus is with Hope. He would trust his family to keep his baby safe, and he would trust the mother too. Of course he would be more protective, and that would make him more dangerous.
Obviously this child would soften him, and having a baby to actually raise may make him not treat Marcel like shit and in consequence, not kill him, because he knows what it is to love someone more than himself and stuff.
Simply put, Elijah would have loved this baby more than his siblings and would have been forced to change 55% of his behavior. His child wouldn't be the mythical tribrid tho, so I wonder what their life would have been like.
(I think it would be ironic if Hope and the hypotetical kid existed in the same universe, haylijah got together and Klaus and the mother of Elijah's baby also fell in love lmao.)
The way The Originals eventually made Rebekah's character be mainly all about motherhood was offputting. Tvdu has an story of making women be obssesed with being a parent to a child or making them be one, but they took that to another whole level with Rebekah.
The way she speaks of it - it's like more than her wanting to be a mother, it's needing to be one. After all, Rebekah was born in an age where women were seen as breeding mares and viking women were married extremely young, as early as twelve and as late as fifteen, I imagine she was being courted by the time she died or that she was getting ready to be thrown off to some man and be his wife, so it would make sense for her character to be dragging all that trauma once she turned, because other characters did too: Klaus dragged his parent's abuse his whole life, Elijah had the whole "red door" thing going on, Kol lost his magic and became bitter because of it, Finn was suicidal and etc. I mean, Rebekah probably grew up thinking that the only way to prove her value as a woman was to have a child and/or to have a husband.
Like, it would make sense and it would make her character more complex, instead of people just labeling her as "Rosalie 2.0" or "Barbie Klaus", but of course that would mean then that tvdu writers would have to actually be interested in their characters and we all know that isn't possible.
Rip Elijah Mikaelson. You would have loved life without your abusive brother around to dictate yours.
